I've noticed that similar skills are needed for both playing music and playing DDR. DDR is notes and measures, really (the regular are quarter notes, the blue arrows are eigth notes, yellow arrows sixteenth notes, etc. rephrased!: red arrows are 1,2,3,4; blue arrows are on the ands, and yellow are on e and a). So do any of you also play music? biggrin

DDR holds no connection to actually playing music, other than being able to keep a beat. You'd have to be stupid to not realize what the different colored notes are. They just pertain to being able to move with the beat of the song.
I play piano.

Ya those aren't sixteenth notes or eigth notes, they just happen on a different beat.
I play flute, played Oboe, and played Marimba (It's like a Xylo)

Actually I've heard from a lot of people who play piano who played Keyboardmania that it actually as much like playing piano as you would think. It was more of a search-and-peck-the-right-key game than anything.

Being able to read sheet music helped me a lot with figuring out how to read step charts. They are basically the same. Truthfully I did not know how to read sheet music until I was in 10th grade and I had been playing in band for five years at that time. And I had started DDR during my freshman year. I didn't make much improvement in playing during that first year no matter how much I practiced. But then I learned to read sheet music and then DDR became much easier to play.

Sometimes, but what makes 1/8 and 1/16 notes is holding them for a short amount of time. The "1/8" steps are held for the same amount of time as the "1/4" step
