The coffeehouse is wedged between a bookstore and a pizzeria on Port Gino's main drag, and is nothing special to look at, at first glance. There is an aging green and red striped awning over the door and large glass window, and a simple, handwritten sign on the door that reads "OPEN".

Inside, the shop is very sparsely furnished, with a smattering of small tables and chairs, three sofas arranged around a large but short coffeetable, and a long bar that wraps from the very back to the store all the way to the front along one of the walls.

The bar itself is lined with giant bottles of flavorings, wrapped pastries, boxes of tea labeled in a language that doesn't exist in any country on this planet, mugs, and strange, clunky machines that could pass for coffeemakers.

On the rear wall is a pair of doors; one leads to the outside and is labeled as an emergency exit only, and the other leads into a tiny kitchen.

And buried amongst the clutter is a single cash register with a smiling, pregnant woman standing behind it.

"Do you need me to take over the register while the turnovers are baking, Ms. Keth?"

A young-looking girl pokes her head out of the kitchen, dressed in trendy, flowing clothes. As she nudges Junyi away from the cash register, she begins feverishly rearranging the pens, pencils, and pads of paper on one of the lower shelves. When she pops back above the bar to take orders, her nametag seems to catch the light.

Naida Johansson.

She seems friendly and open, but there's something about her; an aura of quiet strength that seems to roll off her shoulders and ripple through the air around her. Although she is open, there is still much to her that remains hidden- but none of that matters at the moment. What matters at the moment is business, business, business!

"Is there anything I can get for you today?"

Rules of Jejune Jun's Cafe:

- First and foremost, all of Port Gino's laws still apply in the cafe. Please respect them.

- Breedables are welcome (This is, after all, a breedable community), but please be aware the coffeeshop isn't that large, and pets that are larger than a human would have a hard time squeezing in. With that said, please clean up after your pets. ^_-

- No fighting. Period. Heated arguments and debates are fine, but if there is any violence, the offenders will be either thrown out by Junyi or Naida, or have the Port Gino authorities called on them.

- Mild profanity is fine, but please don't overdo it. I don't mind your garden variety of potty words, but use common sense, please.

- Please distinguish between IC and OOC. Use (()), {{}}, or whatever suits your fancy, as long as it's easy to tell which is which.

- Feel free to hang out here if Junyi isn't around OCly. Please excercise common courtesy and do not hop behind the bar to get your own pastries and drinks, however. If you still want refreshments, feel free to take IC control of Naida only to have your order filled. She will perhaps be available for conversation/debates after the patrons have a chance to get to know her. ^_-

Junyi peeks outside the door before hanging up a handwritten sign underneath the similar one reading "OPEN":

"Now open for business!"

The redundancy of the second sign eludes her.

With all the stealthiness of a pregnant ninja, Junyi attaches yet another sign to the front door:

"Yes, we're OPEN! Open for BUSINESS!"

Naida watches this, seemingly neutral to the beginnings of what will surely be a wallpapering of this poor door, but her eyes betray a faint glimmer of amusement.

Within minutes, another sign finds itself tacked onto the door:

"GRAND OPENING!"

Shortly afterwards, it's joined by three other signs all bearing similar slogans. "OPENING DAY!" "HALF OFF EVERYTHING!"

At this point, Naida is visibly smiling.

The tape dispenser is emptied at an alarming rate as Junyi plasters even more signs onto the front door.

"BIENVENIDOS A JEJUNE JUN CAFE!"

No longer simply smiling, Naida has covered her mouth with one hand as she begins snickering.

The tape dispenser had run out a long time ago, but it doesn't stop Junyi from wedging signs between OTHER signs on the door. The light entering the cafe has decreased significantly, and the door is now completely plastered with signs designed to encourage business.

Unable to contain herself, Naida laughs openly, hunching over the counter and pounding the top with one fist as she wheezes with laughter.

"I think... they get the point!"

((Crosspost from GMFC journal, which is why it's in past tense))

Junyi barely batted an eyelash as the large truck parked in front of the coffeehouse. However, she did raise an eyebrow as she turned and watched Naida vault over the counter and run at the aforementioned truck, and her jaw nearly dropped as she watched the unloading begin.

First came a stone pagoda. And then a beckoning cat. And then enough lanterns to make any small town festival jealous. Globes, incense, figurines, sake sets, windchimes...

"Naida, what is all this?" she finally choked out, staring dumbly at the boxes on the floor. They were colorfully printed and poudly bore the images of the merchandise contained inside, much to Junyi's relief. After all; she hated surprises... especially this one.

"Don't worry. I paid for it out of pocket," Naida assured her, waving her hand.

"That so didn't answer my question. What is all this?"

"Um... decorations?" Naida blinked, looking up from her position on the floor opening boxes. "You said the place was too bare, and so I took some initiative. Don't worry; I've done business with these guys before. They're good."

"I wish you told me," Junyi sighed, covering her face with one hand. "The last things I need right now are surprises." She peeked out between her fingers at the boxes on the floor. "I'm not even sure why you got only Japanese things. I was hoping for an eclectic look, not a theme."

"...So?"

"This isn't a Japanese-style teahouse, Naida.

"So?"

"I'm not Japanese!"

"So?

"Neither are you!"

"So?"

"That's almost false advertising!" Junyi sputtered dumbly. "People are going to think this is a Japanese teahouse, and they'll lynch me for false advertising!"

Naida quirked an eyebrow. "You do realize you sound absolutely batshit insane. Nobody's going to expect this coffeehouse to be something it's not. Nobody's going to LYNCH you. Nobody's going to care that the decor looks somewhat ORGANIZED rather than like someone threw a bunch of crap on the walls." She finally sighed. "After all, this could be a good thing. You were always saying that you would like more business than the little old ladies that come in from time to time to buy a pity cup of coffee and tell you what a nice girl I am. This will maybe bring in some actual customers."

"What? How?"

"Face it. Everybody in this Gaia place is obsessed with the Orient. Put some of these things out in front of the shop, and you'll get more schoolgirl and dog-boy wannabes beating down the door to this dump before you can say "Sailor kawaii neko senshi no kanashimi no da."

Junyi's jaw dropped again as she sat in stunned silence.

Finally, after an eternity, she spoke.

"You are answering every bit of hate mail I get over that last statement."

"Yeah, sure. I'd like them to just try it. But maybe they should wait until their underage tentacle porn finishes downloa--"

"Naida!"

"What? It's no worse than you freaking out over all this merchandise because it was Japanese, you racist," Naida shot back.

"But I was just worried that people would think this was a--"

"Traditional teahouse," Naida interrupted. "Despite the fact that your shop name has nothing to do with tea. Yes. We sell tea. From another PLANET. That's pretty damn exotic. And so are these decorations. So are you gonna put up a lantern or what?"

Junyi slumped forward, resting her chin on the counter. "...I was going to keep them anyway," she grumbled. "They're pretty."

"....But I'm not getting up on any stepstools while I'm this off-balance."

"Fair enough." With that, Naida began to hang the lanterns around the cafe.

Yawning, Naida hunches over the cash register with what appears to be... homework?

"Man, boss doesn't know how to run a damn store." She grimaces. "...And where the hell IS she?"

Faevan

Faevan slipped into the cafe quietly, efficiently ordering a cup of strong Italian coffee and slipping into a corner with her drink and a newspaper. It had been a long day, and she wanted to relax for a bit. Snuggling into the plush chair, she flipped the paper open, the crisp sound of the fresh pages breaking the silence.

"Where are they..? Ah, here! This Port Gino paper sure is hard to find your way around..." She mumbled to no one in particular, bypassing the depressing world news section and immersing herself in the comics.
