Gion was almost beyond himself with excitement. Since his sister's second departure - and most likely her final one - two weeks previous, he had been angry and frustrated with his family nearly to the point of madness. He hadn't even found comfort in speaking with his grandmother, the queen, because he knew she had to accept what his brothers had done, there was nothing else for her to do: but he couldn't. His only source of relief was the sword he had found, the sword that had a man's soul trapped within.
And now he was setting out on his first journey alone - physically alone, but with the strength and foresight of Daemon to aid him, and Daemon's conversation to keep him sane.
He didn't know where to go first.
Ideas? he asked Daemon, speaking to the blade only by thought. We're on our own now.

The two weeks that Elnara had felt Daemon had been worried about Gion's own health. From what little he had learn about this new world he was in, piece by piece... he had gathered that Gion was beyond his time. The only thing he could do, besides talk philosophy with the elf (which in the end became questions about the Greeks), was simply to train and get stronger. He could gain visions now... and as long as he was with Gion he could hear... granted he was still as blind as a bat (even though arguably bats were not blind.)
Hmm... have any relatives living far away?

Gion thought about it a moment, his mind running through all the possibilies.
There's the plantation, he mused. Ulani and Ulrich in the Borderlands, Aunt Amalthea and Uncle Eregon in the Westland, Chansond'eau ...
It was more of a thought process than anything but he was sure Daemon would be able to hear him anyways.

We could... go down to the Borderlands...
Daemon replied..
And since that is the center of it all then decide from there which area we want to go to next.

Gion grinned. That sounds like a plan. So that's about two weeks' travel, less if the weather stays good. First we've got about eight days of desert travel, then four days of forest ...
He paused. Eh but it's winter up there now. That'll be interesting ...

When you say winter, I take it you mean real winter with snow and the like?
Daemon, when he had found out that Gion's people were in winter had a near fit, for to him winter was snow.... and ice skating.

Yes, Gion replied. Their winter is like your winter, lasts only a quarter of the year and has snow and ice. Though I didn't even know what those were until Yue and Yukito showed us ...
He sighed. He was going to miss them.
Have you ever traveled through a desert? he asked.

Not without a camel, and that was only to a little outpost that happened to be there to get some scrolls for research I was doing... and even then I was with a guide. Horribily hot....
Daemon mused on this, he didn't like the desert all that much, but it was better than the arctic tundra... hmm... maybe not.. he couldn't decide on that.

Gion chuckled lightly. Yeah, it's hot all right, he agreed, checking his pack once more. It had been nice of Kara to spell it for him before she had left: he had well over a month's supply of food and water in there right now, along with what could for some people be considered a full wardrobe. His cloak was rolled up inside as well, and a few blankets. He was wearing his pants and a white shirt made of spidersilk - nice and cool, very light.
So what exactly is a camel? he asked Daemon curiously, looking up at the sun to gauge his direction.

It's a creature with two humps of fat on it's back, though sometimes it does have one depending on the breed, it's a desert animal, uses the hump to store water in it's body until it can come to the next oasis.
Daemon explained causually use to all these questions of animals and places and terms.

Interesting, Gion grinned. I think I would like very much to see the animals of your world sometime.
He paused. And that reminds me ... perhaps we could stop at the Wolf's Fang Mountain on our way west. I've always wanted to explore it.

Oh? What's there? Besides the possible wolf.. or is that just a name?
The mere thought of it conjured tales in Daemon's mind of long ago, so he wasn't so srue.

No wolves, Gion grinned. A few thousand years ago I guess it looked like a wolf's head, now I'm told it just looks like a regular mountain.
He thought about a better way to explain, and wondered if he chould show Daemon a picture with his thoughts like Daemon had showed him that angel.
He concentrated on the image of a mountain, double-peaked and similar to a wolf's head in shape. What looked like it might be a snout stuck out a bit at the base on the west side of the mountain, and stactites and stalagmites joining to make a pillar that looked almost like fangs.
Would Daemon be able to see it? He couldn't see anything else ...

Ah!
Daemon saw the image form in his mind's eye. Yes, yes he could see why it was called that, though as Gion had said it probably does not look like that now. Time did that.
I see... there was a chuckle. Hmm... what an interesting place to explore.

Gion grinned again as he entered the desert. Exactly what I was thinking he agreed. There's a cave in there, the closest cave I know of. I've wanted to explore it since I heard of it.
