Malgahress
From the mountainous regions of Tolrian to the spiked cliffs of the Kiera Coast stretches a wide, land of primal wilderness dotted with small kingdoms and the like. Malgahress is the only known continent of the world Cyria, the other lands lie distant in the corners of the world. Malgahress dominates the seas and is the crux upon which all else turns, a land that is filled with mythical creatures, powerful magic and prophecies which have yet to be fulfilled.

The continent, 'Malgahress' spans more than thirty-five hundred leagues from east to west and twenty-five hundred from north to south. It's lands include frozen wastelands, deep humid jungles, foreboding mountains, and gleaming inland seas. Across this vast expanse travel minstrels and peddlers, caravan merchants and guards, soldiers, sailors, and steel-hearted adventurers carrying tales of glorious, strange, faraway places.

The known roads of Malgahress are dangerous to travell. Fel magic, deadly monsters and cruel local rulers are example of a manner of perils that you face while you are abroad in Malgahress. Away from the main roads and the great cities, the countryside is far wilder than the city folk remeber. Even farms and freeholds within a day's walk of a city may fall prey to monsters, and no place in Malgahress is safe from the sudden wrath of a dragon.

Gaian Username
Loraya
Name:
Loraya 'Lor' Shortstaff
Race:
Human
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
Lor is 5' 4" with long golden yellow hair. She wears tight fitting black clothes and a large ribbon that ties her hair back. Her boots are big and black, coming up to her thighs. A sling across her chest holds a few throwing daggers and a harness which holds her compactable trident at her side. On the other side of the sling is a small bag which contains many random things, including her theiving tools and some poisons and antidotes.
Skills/Training/Abilities:
Pickpocketing, thieving, stealing and theiving. She's had over 15 years of training which have given her some other abilities, including shadow jumping and phantom images and sounds.
Weapon/Equipment:
Lor has many throwing daggers hidden in her boots and clothing, let alone the few she has on display most of the time. Her trident is custom made so it folds down into three segments, each two foot long. The tines are a foot and a half long and are razor sharp on the outsides so Lor can slash and stab. Her backpack contains many random things she's picked up in her travels, including a shortbow, all her theiving tools and her many poisons and antidotes. And yes, her small, half foot square backpack is magical to hold all this.
Age:
29
History:
Lor was an orphan for 5 years before she was taken in by an older woman. The woman was one of the major theives in the city and taught the young Lor to fend for herself. At the age of 12, Lor started her 'official' theif training, learning from the woman how to make a living and not getting caught. Lor was caught at the age of 18 when she made the stupidest mistake to try and rob from a mage. The mage, not wanting to waste her talent in a prison cell, kept her in his residence and trained her as his apprentice. She left a couple of years later to continue being a thief, but she rapidly rose to being the best thief with what the mage taught her. In return for the teachings, the mage occasionally got her to steal something he couldn't obtain with magic. She willingly and happily obliged, seeing that the magic he taught her saved her life many times. When Lor hit her 25th birthday, she became the top theif in the city.

Weapon/Equipment: Longbow, two slender longswords of elven make, a small dagger, and a cloak of concealment.

Age: 154

History: Enya is the daughter of the Wave Speaker, from the royal house of the sea elves. They are not much different from elves, however the enmity that most races hold towards the sea elves means that Enya must keep her heritage secret at all costs. However, she had to leave her people to find some way of stopping the sea dragons from attacking her home, and is in search of help to do that.

Gaian Username Angelic_Illusionz

Name: Sulphur

Race: Elve?

Gender: Male

Appearance: User Image

Skills/Training/Abilities: Magic, Magic, and more magic. He can’t cast divine spells though, and he’s quite fond of illusions and status affecting spells.

Weapon/Equipment: He has a spoon that he’s quite fond of, and it speaks. It has eyes that blink and a small mouth that moves with speech and likes to chew on things. This is his familiar. He also has a bag filled with anything he’d ever need for any spell he’d like to cast that must be prepared instead of just being a spontaneous action.

Age: 213

History: Sulphur’s real name is Farid, but he gave up the name when his life was taken away from him. Yes, he was resurrected from the dead as a young child, and since his body was destroyed his crazed father murdered other elves in secret and used their body parts in a spell to create a new body for his son. Still, he couldn’t find a right eye, so he stole one from a demon. The properties of it he doesn’t know, but there are no seems where limbs were put together, or any color differentiation because he was magically put together. He’s odd, or rather twisted. He finds pleasure in other’s pain, but he finds it hard to use his skills to do so. He is a jolly fellow none-the-less, and if he likes you you’re good to go.

demagoguery
Gaian Username Demagoguery

Name: Ryael, or Rye

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Appearance: Dirty blonde hair and black eyes, no iris. Her face is covered in ritualistic scars, ones only those well versed in demonology and the arcane would be able to understand.

Although human, Ryael has a decidely otherworldly look. Something seems strange about her, the way her skin fits over her bones, the way she looks at people, everything. Her hands are the strangest part of her, and if one looks closely enough, they'll see her fingers have one too many joints.

Skills/Training/Abilities: Fighter, barehanded like a monk, but without the official training. Doesn't belong to an order, so isn't technically a monk despite her technique. Has an indepth knowledge of demons and demonology. Can speak their language, as well as several others, to a limited extent. For example, she can say, "It is time to pay your debt" in every language, but can't ask where the bathroom is.

Has residual abilities left over from her servitude. For example, she can see in the dark, is dextrocardic, and has minor control over fire. Nothing awesome like summoning giant fireballs, but enough to cause minor burns someone if she touches someone. Mostly uses the ability for intimidation rather than real harm. Increased resistance to fire and spells cast by demons, weakness to holy spells. Friendly cleric spells, such as heal or blessing by a teammate, will help her less than it will others.

Nothing can hurt her hands except holy water. This is another thing she uses more for intimidation than anything, although she derives great amusement from scaring other by sticking her hands in fire. However, the rest of her is perfectly vulnerable.

Weapon/Equipment: Nothing. She wears no armor, uses no weapons, owns nothing except a weird necklace made from appleseeds.

Age: Unknown, but looks to be in midtwenties.

History: Ryael's father was offered wealth by a demon if he gave him what stood behind his house. Thinking the only thing there was an apple tree, he agreed, but it Rayel was sitting beneath it. When three years were up, the demon appeared, but the girl had kept herself sinless and her hands clean, and the demon was unable to take her. The demon threatened to take the father if he did not chop off the girl's hands, and he did.

Ryael spent the next decade serving the demon in one of the rings of hell, trained to fight barehanded and acting as a messenger/bounty hunter of those who had made contracts with the demon. She was given new hands, taken from her first kill. Eventually, she learned of a loophole to her imprisonment. On her next mission to Earth, she killed her father and destroyed all his possessions, finishing by burning down her childhood home.

After her release, she became a mercenary. Has an affinity for children and cannot abide slavery, especially child slavery.

Gaian Username: dovesary-balitang

Name: Kaîa Orrichane (Ka EE ya Orr IH kayn)

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Appearance: Kaîa is short in stature with long brown wavy hair, blue/grey eyes & pale skin. She is of average build and has a musical voice. Kaîa wears a white silk, hooped gown with a grey velvet, long sleeved over robe and black leather slippers. Hidden beneath the gown is grey hose, black leggings and a white shirt. At Kaîa's waist is a silver belt. Hung on the belt is a white silk fan with a silver owl on the pivot.

Skills/Training/Abilities: From a young age, Kaîa was taken into a convent where the girls were trained in the shukuusen. She is also knowledgable in basic hand to hand combat and acrobatics.

Weapon/Equipment: Her shukuusen. A shukuusen is a hand held fan. When the animal at the pivot is twisted, tiny razor sharp spines poke out from the top of the supports. When wielded by a trained person, the shukuusen becomes a whirring blade that is deadly to anyone that comes across them.

Age: 18

History: Kaîa was a member of a small, old noble family until she ran from an arranged marriage and her home. Her first sanctuary was a small convent of priestesses. Although Kaîa was too old to become a priestess, the women trained her with the heavy old metal fans to get her muscles used to the movements. When Kaîa was 17, she graduated from the convent and was given her current shukuusen. Nicknamed "The Owl" for her silence and skill with the fan, she was presented with the silver owl for her pivot.
Kaîa then went wandering across the continent, looking for work. She currently has not found a place to settle down, but is rather milling around in between her old life and a new one.

It was night and red light was shining on the city 'Astrael', like an evil eye the moon shone a bright crimson rather like that of blood. It was a night that only happened every 7 years, a night so rare and unique that it deserved its own title, ‘the night of the devil’s eye’. A night that bred secrecy, evil and superstitions, a night where lovers met in secret to avoid the gazing eye of their parents, a night where thieves and assassins roamed around in secrecy and also the night young man landed on the doorstep of a tavern seeking a place to rest.

The young man’s hair was dull silvery gray mess that smelt of moss, his eyes were of rich green sparkling like emeralds. The young man’s name in question was Raine, he had been traveling through the region ‘Kull’ for all his known life a year. Raine had been traveling to remember his life before the ‘accident’, an accident which took his memories but not the skills he had in his former life which seemed to be numerous. The accident in his mind was a blur, just as evasive as his own memories appeared to be.

The tavern door opened with a loud ‘thud’ as Raine's hands forcefully pushed it open. For a brief moment the tavern was filled with cold air and then another ‘thud’ resounded in the room as the door was closed yet again. The crowd inside shifted their attention to Raine, for a moment the tavern was silent. Soon the bustle of the tavern returned where voices talked away and individuals drown their sorrows with alcohol. It was the usual calamity of tavern, although this tavern was a mite busier then the usual taverns Raine had visited. His thoughts turned into pessimistic squabble by his ego and superego, with the superego talking about how futile the attempts of getting a room here would be and the ego rebutting with If you don’t try you’ll never know.

Taillen sighed heavily and concluded that this tavern had certainly grown popular in the hundred or so years that it had existed. Pity, too. It was nice back then. Quiet and peaceful, not busy like it is now. The elf took a sip from his tankard and cringed. The mead was sweeter back then, too.
His eyes ever watchful, Taillen observed the young human with curiosity. However, the noise in the building was such that Taillen's elven ears hurt, and when he opened his eyes again after calming himself, he had to spend minutes searching for the young man again. I'm out of my element here. Taillen desperately wanted to return to his beloved home in Girrah Forest to the east, but all woodlands were too dangerous at this time of year, even for an experienced elf. Another day or two, and nature will have calmed down after the conclusion of this peculiar night. Home, how I miss you.
Taillen decided that the only logical thing to do was to get roaring drunk.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 5:44 am

Lor stared at the man who had just stormed in, smashing the doors open. She ignored him as another traveler in search of a place to stay for the night. She personally didn't mind who stayed where.

Noticing Taillen in the corner, getting himself smashed, Lor decided to go talk to the elf. He'd been around since before she was born, according to her teachers and no one seemed to want to mess with him. So she made a point of aquainting herself with him regularly.

"Taillen, you know it's bad to get yourself drunk," she said as she warped into the chair next to him. "If you get yourself drunk, how will you protect yourself from theives?"

Raine slid in and out of the crowd, almost shuffling to get towards the bar where he expected to find the owner of the tavern who was a rather short and stout man with a rather large beer belly. It was clear that he drank as much as his patrons did, Raine shook his head knowing he would regret talking to this man.

He approached him slowly and cautiously studying him for a moment before the man's eyes glazed over him, the man words were slurred hinting that he had been drinking tonight "areshh yoush lookinsh for a roomsh tonight?" he said before he hiccuped "well theresh none avalible talk to Lorshhh she mighshh be able to lend you some placesh to stay" he pointed out to the woman in the corner speaking to Tallien.

Raines eyes narrowed and frowned in a expression of distaste which the man obviously didn't know, he swiftly changed his expression and then spoke his words silkily "i will look up this Lor, good day tavern keeper" he said moving away from the man he felt was disgusting and moving towards the lady the man had indicated.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 6:14 am

Lor's ears perked up as she heard her slurred name said by the tavern owner. It wasn't often that he had to use her resources to house someone, but it seemed like there were no rooms tonight, so he had to. Oh well, she would charge him usual prices.

She scanned the crowd between the tavern owner and herself and noticed the new boy walking towards her, his eyes focussed on her. Her took a sip from her wine glass and placed it on the table gently as the young man approached.

"Can I help you young man?" she asked before taking another sip of her obviously expensive wine.

Raine eyes glazed over her and one eye brow raised as if it was in disbelief, "i believe you can miss, that is if you can provide lodging for the night" he spoke with a tone which indicated tiredness and a bit of crankyness.

Raine then looked at her his eyes glowing a little bit of blue "Though if you can help me allow me to ask this" he asked her pausing "how much will lodging cost and how will it be paid by gold or by some other means such as a favour?"

Raine stood a little closer to her wondering what their agreement would entail, would the end justify the means would staying the night be worth the cost.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 9:27 pm

Loraya smiled. This was a usual reaction to her favours. "The price is the same as it would be here, one gold piece for the night and food. And I can promise you that the food will be a whole lot better than here." With an expansive wave of her arm she indicated the entire tavern.

"Don't worry your young head. It's not you who owes me a favour, it's Harrold, the tavern owner who owes me for his use of my rooms."

She smiled and waved the comment away as she stood. Patting Tallien's shoulder, she turned to him. "Don't get yourself sick," she said before leading the young man towards the tavern door.

Enya entered the bar, looking around nervously, trying to hide her fluid grace that made even the wood elves seem jerky in their movements. The mistrust and fear that most species held sea elves in would endanger her gratefully if they recognised her for what she was. She was wearing a cloak to hide the insignia that was on her arm that represented her race and allowed her to change form, and drew it closer to her as she made her way to the bar.
"A glass of water please," she said politely, lowering her voice several shades and trying to hide the musical lilt that decorated it. The barman simply grunted and put a glass on the bench, filling it with dirty water. She grimaced, and wondered how an inn could change so much simply by chan ging the ownership. The barman's father had been a lovely, simple man who had kept his inn clean, his prices good and his wares were of quality. She didn't touch the glass, choosing instead to look around the room. Her eyes fell on another elf, similar to her in age she thought, who was talking with another man and woman. She compared herself to him, noting several differences, but not ones of particularly noticeable quality. She relaxed then, for she hadn't seen an elf in a hundred years and wasn't sure how much they had changed.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:02 pm

((Just for references, Laury, I think this version will go better if we don't head to the home in Girrah forest. Perhaps head to a city or something, and the weekly showing up? perhaps more often? biggrin ))

Taillen nodded his greetings to the human lad, smirked at Loraya's comment, then watched them leave the establishment. Scanning the room, Taillen noticed an elf peering at him, but paid no heed. However, being of pure blood, Taillen concluded that although he only glanced at her, this other elf definitely wasn't. After all, elves were known for their pride (and arrogance) and the creature Taillen had observed hadn't exhibited such an aura.
Shrugging, Taillen risked his life enough to have another gulp from his tankard.

Raine looked at her with an appraising look, he followed her looking at the back of her head he liked her golden hair but felt a bit miffed by the circumstances. He wondered who this individual was and where she was taking him obviously it was outside the tavern, but where would that place be. He placed a gold piece into her hand and smiled "i believe we can do business" he said following her making it clear that she could lead him to this place of lodging.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:36 pm

Loraya smiled over her shoulder and gently took the gold coin. "We're going to a friend of mine. She puts up strangers in need of a place for a small fee, feeds them and makes sure not to ask any questions. Harrold and I have a little arangement when he runs out of room." She glanced at him. "Hope you don't mind trusting a thief for one night. I promise not to steal anything unless you piss me off."

She wandered around a corner and knocked lightly on a cottage door. An elderly looking woman opened the door a crack.

"Lor," she said in a young voice. "Tonight?"

Loraya sighed. "Harrold's out. Look, I'll find you that broach I owe you, okay?"

The woman glanced at Lor, then at the young man then back at Lor. "Done," she replied, opening the door. Lor prodded the young man to enter the house and closed the door behind them.

The house was furnished like an old woman's cottage. Old chairs sat around a fire where a kettle boiled. The 'old' woman stood up straight and removed her grey wig, tossing it on a nearby chair.

"What's your name young man?" the woman asked. She looked around thirty-five, but Lor knew the truth. She was her mentor and had aged gracefully.

Sick of the stale air in the inn, Enya stood and left, breathing in the cool night air as she exited the tavern. She looked up at the stars and suddenly felt a wave of homesickness overcome her. She missed her family so much...
PostPosted: Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:56 pm

Finding nothing else interesting inside the tavern, Taillen followed the elven woman outside, making a point to close the door loudly as he did so. If there was one thing he had learned in his life, it was to make others aware of your presence when you meant no harm.

"It is incredibly rare that an elf is seen in this city, keeping aside the fact that you're travelling alone." Bowing gracefully, Taillen smiled cheerfully. "I am Taillen Belen of Girrah Forest. Would you mind my asking for your name?"

Enya looked around fearfully when she heard the door snap shut. However, when the elf made no threatening moves towards her, she considered her options. She didn't think that many would know the names of the royal houses of the Sea elves, so she figured it was safe to use her own name.
"My name is Enya," she said, forgetting to alter her voice.
