I agree to an extent. THe Offspring used to be punk, before they switched to Punk Pop. Songs like Hit That, (Cant get my head) around you are Punk pop. Same for pretty fly for a white guy. But I'm talking about 1989-94. Those were their golden years. 89 - 94.... their stuff was not even heard until the early 90's .... they were touring with no doubt when no doubt first started - and the bands they toured with were more ska-rock-alt-skater music than punk. (remember how old i am lol, i actually remember when the offspring first hit the music scene.)
perhaps a song or two off the first really bad album could be labeled punk-ish... sorta. but the rest of the stuff is really just on the firmer end of alternative skate grunge punk (and i'm not being negative here - that's actually my favorite style of music, lol, and i love the offspring's "smash)
as to their stuff from 89 - 94 --- they only released 2 albums. so i don't really know what you're talking about darling. (unless you're counting the baghdad, which was so limited i don't know how you've heard of it - cuz there is a song on there that's pretty punk)...
i think i'm done with my offspring rampage, lol. .
by the way, has anyone even bothered to mention the godfather of punk?
come on now darlings.... this is the punk discussion, is it not?
david bowie? and dude- Frank Zappa?
These are people who really helped the movement along - not that they started it or anything, but punk really started earlier than the 70's.
all of the preceding was miss michelle's opinion and may not mean a damn thing. lol.
