Yes yes yes yes yes yes, yes oh yes! Old punk, new punk -any punk!
Just talk about punk rock in general, discuss the favorite bands, the traditions, the whole 9 yards.
Me, personally, I'm skater punk. Not like new skater punk, but old skater punk. Like 70s, even though i do use 21st century skateboards. Haha, I love the Z-boys xd .

NOTE: My Chemical Romance and anything like it is *Not* punk. Don't come in her talking about how MCR and Hot Topic are so cool, or anything like it. Got it? Good.

I'm going to be honest with; while I like many bands on your list, and really love some of them, I'm totally hurt you forgot The Clash.

Love the Sex Pistols. I got my kid brother into them when he was like 10 and he started calling himself Jamey Rottten. Cute.

The Offspring, definitely. There are alot of good bands on there though. You forgot the band that started the Punk movement though, "Minor Threat".

That was started by the Clash. They were the first punk band, but Minor Threat was awesome. They tried to get rid of the posers.

I'm very sorry, but the offspring are not punk. gotta disagree with you there.

as for who started it all - well really. it was no one single band. it was more a few dozen little bands hitting shitty clubs and rockin - until finally a couple of them got signed. punk really owes itself to kids sick and tired of s**t.

I agree to an extent. THe Offspring used to be punk, before they switched to Punk Pop. Songs like Hit That, (Cant get my head) around you are Punk pop. Same for pretty fly for a white guy. But I'm talking about 1989-94. Those were their golden years.

I wouldn't call myself an expert on Punk but Minor threat didn't even form until 1980. The Clash and Sex Pistols were both already out by that time.

89 - 94.... their stuff was not even heard until the early 90's .... they were touring with no doubt when no doubt first started - and the bands they toured with were more ska-rock-alt-skater music than punk. (remember how old i am lol, i actually remember when the offspring first hit the music scene.)
perhaps a song or two off the first really bad album could be labeled punk-ish... sorta. but the rest of the stuff is really just on the firmer end of alternative skate grunge punk (and i'm not being negative here - that's actually my favorite style of music, lol, and i love the offspring's "smash)

as to their stuff from 89 - 94 --- they only released 2 albums. so i don't really know what you're talking about darling. (unless you're counting the baghdad, which was so limited i don't know how you've heard of it - cuz there is a song on there that's pretty punk)...
i think i'm done with my offspring rampage, lol. .

by the way, has anyone even bothered to mention the godfather of punk?

come on now darlings.... this is the punk discussion, is it not?

david bowie? and dude- Frank Zappa?

These are people who really helped the movement along - not that they started it or anything, but punk really started earlier than the 70's.

all of the preceding was miss michelle's opinion and may not mean a damn thing. lol.

David Bowie rocks! China girl and Life on Mars. Genius. He was one of the best.

But Smash was an awesome album. I have it, it's one of the few CDs that i own. Smash is from '94. I hate the new Greatest Hits. That's all the new crap.
