{ Game Mechanics }
Tabula Rasa runs on a unique, RPG-style system. It can get slightly complex, so it is advised you read through this thread for a better understanding. Questions are welcome!

{ Experience }
Experience is central to Tabula Rasa. Only with experience will your Tabula shift phases, and only with experience will you Tabula be able to gain skills and levels. Experience is counted in discrete units called Experience Points (XP).
{ Gaining Experience }
To gain experience, you must roleplay. This is the only way to recieve experience. The mechanism for experience gain relies on the concept of keys, which is detailed below.
{ Keys }
Keys are "goals, emotional ties or vows" that your Tabula has. By bringing up keys in roleplay, your Tabula can gain experience. The amount gained depends on what specific actions your Tabula takes. An example will illustrate the concept more clearly:
Key of Conscience Your character has a soft spot for those weaker than their opponents.
Gain 1 XP: every time your character helps someone who cannot help themselves. Gain 2 XP: every time your character defends someone with might who is in danger and cannot save themselves. Gain 5 XP: every time your character takes someone in an unfortunate situation and changes their life to where they can help themselves.
Buyoff: Ignore a request for help.
The first line explains the basic idea of the key. Next, experience gains based on certain actions are detailed, and finally, a buyoff is noted. Whenever a character performs an action described in a buyoff, they can either: (a) gain 10 XP in exchange for discarding that particular key; the Tabula then cannot have the same key again until they've gained five (5) levels, or (b) lose 2 XP.
Tabula begin only able to hold one key. More key slots can be obtained through roleplay and events.

{ Levels }
Levels are gained by accumulating experience points (XP) and they allow your Tabula to grow. Growth encompasses statistic point gains, Rasa point gains, and increased slots for keys and inventory items.
{ Gaining Levels }
To gain a level, you must have a certain amount of XP. Each level requires 15 XP.

{ Statistics }
There are two types of statistics a Tabula has: innate and acquired. Innate statistics are those that a Tabula can build through experience and growth, while acquired statistics are enhanced by equipping items.
Statistics affect how your Tabula will fare in battle. If your Tabula has higher statistics, you have an advantage.
Innate statistics include:
Hit Points (HP) - A finite number of points are assigned to your Tabula. If your Tabula runs out of HP, the battle is over. Magic Points (MP) - A finite number of points are assigned to your Tabula. MP is used to cast magic. Strength (STR) - Governs how physically strong your Tabula is, and thus how much damage they can cause via physical attacks. Magic (MAG) - Governs how mystically strong your Tabula is, and thus how much damage they can cause via magical attacks. Vitality (VIT) - How much endurance your Tabula has; governs how well your Tabula can withstand attacks. Speed (SPD) - How fast your Tabula is able to move; governs how many turns your Tabula is able to take in battle.
Acquired statistics include: Attack (ATK) - Modified by equipping weapons. Affects how much damage your Tabula can cause. Defense (DEF) - Modified by equipping armour. Affects how much physical damage your Tabula can withstand. Magic Defense (MDEF) - Modified by equipping armour. Affects how much magical damage your Tabula can withstand. Evade (EVA) - Modifed by equipping items. Affects how well your Tabula can avoid attacks. Accuracy (ACC) - Modified by equipping items. Affects how often your Tabula's attacks will land. Luck (LUK) - Modified by equipping items. Affects how lucky your Tabula is, which in turn can affect many other actions.
{ Enhancing Statistics }
To enhance acquired statistics, all you have to do is equip a suitable item. To enhance innate statistics, you must gain Statistic Points (SP). You can do this in many ways:
-Directly from roleplay -When a level is gained -When a phase shift occurs -Event rewards -Trade XP for SP
One (1) SP will enhance one stat by one point. You may choose where to allocate your SP in most cases; in some cases, however, you will gain SP that must be assigned to a certain stat.

{ Rasa Points and Pools }
Rasa Points (RSP) are used to take actions in battle, as well as major actions in roleplay. They are split amongst four (4) pools, with a fifth pool that is optional and only activated during extreme circumstances. The size of a pool represents the maximum number of RSP that are allowed in that pool, whereas the amount of RSP in a pool is a temporary measure of how many actions can be taken by the Tabula. RSP are used to take actions, and they are used up in those actions; however, they are not permanently gone and can be "refreshed". "Think of each one as a container of reserves: these reserves can be spent, but you can refill the container." (Nixon, 2005)
RSP that are used to take actions will be distinguished as "tempRSP", while RSP that is used to permanently increase the size of a Rasa Pool will be distinguished as "permaRSP". If no prefix is present, assume tempRSP except when trading XP for RSP. Then, assume permaRSP.
{ Drawing Rasa Points }
In battle, whenever you take a specific action, there must be a Rasa point associated with that action. Say you want to simply physically attack something. To do this, you must draw one RSP from the Power pool and associate that RSP with the action "physically attack". After an RSP has been associated with that action, you can perform the action repeatedly without having to assign an RSP to it again for the duration of the battle.
The amount of RSP that must be assigned to actions differs depending on the action. The pool you must draw from also differs.
Power Pool - Allows for physical attack. Spirit Pool - Allows for magical attack and enhancements to MP. Stoic Pool - Allows for HP, Defense and Magic Defense enhancements. Haste Pool - Allows for Evasion, Accuracy, Speed and Luck enhancements.
After the battle or roleplay scene is over, the RSP used are gone, and they must be refreshed.
{ The Fifth Pool }
The fifth pool, known as the Trancendence Pool, can only be activated during extreme circumstances. It starts with no points contained within it. During battle, for one turn, a Tabula may allocate one RSP to the Trancendence Pool. Once they have enough, the Tabula may then use a special ability. Different abilities have different RSP requirements. During regular roleplay, the Trancendence Pool can only be invoked by putting all RSP available to that Tabula into the pool.
{ Refreshing Rasa Pools }
A Rasa Pool can be refreshed anytime that it is not full. Pools are refreshed through taking certain actions in roleplay.
The Power Pool can be refreshed though acts of physical exertion with other characters. This includes physical abuse, such as drinking and staying out all night. The Spirit Pool can be refreshed by engaging in spiritual activities with other characters. This includes philosophical discussions and anything to do with the Pantheon. The Stoic Pool can be refreshed by engaging in intellectual activities with other characters. This includes games of skill, debates, etc. The Haste Pool can be refreshed by engaging in social activities with other characters. This includes going to a party, playing a game of chance, etc.
{ Increasing Rasa Pools }
A Tabula may increase the size of their Rasa Pools in the following ways:
-Directly from roleplay -When a level is gained -When a phase shift occurs -Event rewards -Trade XP for permaRSP

{ Actions and Licenses }
To acquire and perform any action, you must first gain the license for that action. Most licenses are acquired through The Legion, by clearing quests set by General Ashet. Sometimes licenses may be acquired via events.
Actions fall into two categories: abilities and magic. Abilities allow your Tabula to perform special actions. Magic allows your Tabula to do many things, including attack and heal.
All actions have a Rasa Pool associated with that action, and it is from that pool that the power to carry out the action is drawn.
Some actions only require RSP to be junctioned to them; the action can then be performed repeatedly. Other actions will expend RSP immediately, and more RSP will need to be used in order to perform the action subsequent times.
The Rasa Pool that is associated with an action is noted in brackets beside the action. The RSP cost is noted in italics. Whether the ability requires RSP junctions or expenditures will be denoted by placing the two types in separate lists or columns.
Ex. Attack (P) - 1 Power Note these abbreviations for the Rasa Pools:
Power Pool (P) Spirit Pool (Sp) Stoic Pool (Sc) Speed Pool (Sp) Trancendence Pool (T)
{ More on Licenses }
Licenses can be acquired for three things: abilities, magic and augments. Abilities and magic are explained above. Augments are a special way of increasing statistics and also have a role in synthesis.
License quests can vary in difficulty from very easy to very hard, depending on the license and Tabula in question.
To learn more about Licenses, go to the Legion.

{ Inventory }
A Tabula's inventory is comprised of five things:
1. Weapons - For use in battle, weapons usually increase a Tabula's ATK and EVA, but have been known to increase other stats as well.
2. Armour - For use in battle, armour usually increases a Tabula's DEF, MDEF and EVA, but has been known to increase other stats as well.
3. Accessories - For use in battle, accessories can increase a variety of stats.
4. Attire - For aesthetics only, in most cases. Your Tabula can equip all sorts of attire.
5. Items - For a variety of uses too broad to list.
{ Acquiring Inventory Items }
Most inventory items are acquired by buying them in the Marketplace using Paise. However, certain items may be acquired by:
-Events -Roleplay
{ Equipping Inventory Items }
There is a set amount of times per month you may change the items that are equipped on your Tabula. Each month, you recieve two (2) inventory changes. You may purchase extra inventory changes for either 1000 g or 1500 pse each.
