Niyati had been training under her guru for the past thirteen years, watching as one by one, her friends put on their arangetram and went out into the world as dancers. Finally, finally, her dream of dancing on the stage, the focal point of tens, no HUNDREDS of people, came true.
On the day of her performance, she greeted her relatives and friends as they entered the temple she was performing at. She felt wonderful in her new costume, the bright colors and sparkling jewelry giving her confidence she didn't know she had.
As the last few stragglers situated themselves on the benches, she climbed on the stage, and an unworldly hush fell over the audience as she began with her salute to the gods, her guru and the audience.
The instruments began playing. Her dance became more and more intricate as she pushed herself to another level. She became lost in the dance, and the music had become her own heartbeat. So absorbed was she in the dance, that she went into a trance, unaware of anything beyond the stage.
For what seemed like ages, she danced, until the music stopped. Her exhaustion finally hit her, and she stood still in her pose, chest heaving as she gasped for air, blinking furiously to get the sweat out of her eyes.
However, none of the expected applause reached her ears, and something about the performance hall seemed off. Was she horrible? Did she fail her guru and herself? What was wrong?
As her eyes cleared and refocused, she thought she was dreaming. There was no one sitting in the benches. For a second, she thought they all left, until she saw the state of the rest of the room. Wood had rotted, the gold decorative gilt had peeled off, stone had crumbled, and everything was covered in a thick layer of sandy grey dust.
As she took a few tentative steps off of the stage, she watched blankly as the planks on the stage gave out and collapsed, sending up a large cloud of dust. Her bare feet made no noise on the floor, save for the faint jingle of her belled anklets. The doors had rotted, and she was forced to climb over large obstacles as she made her way through the entryway.
Outside, things were much the same. Buildings had lost windows and doors, and the rotten remains of curtains and fabric fluttered wearily in the sharp wind. The wind made a low moaning sound as it passed through the empty streets and buildings, and it gave the effect that the buildings were staring at her, asking her why this happened.
However, something caught her eye in the dull grey-brown surroundings of the city ruins. A bright, gleaming red train. Hugging herself tightly, she cautiously approached the train, eying it dubiously.
Her foot stepped on a piece of paper, the (relatively) loud crinkling sound snapping her out of her reverie. She picked it up and stared at it for a moment, before squaring her shoulders and stepping through the train's open doors, ticket clutched in a red-tipped hand.
"One who cannot dance blames the floor."

Which are many. However, that doesn't stop him from from making friends, and seems to know Someone wherever he goes. Occupation: This is one of the things he doesn't talk about much, but whatever it is requires for him to be gone often, and it is rare that he is in town for more than a few days in a row.
