((Still am working on the RP with Shinz, and not sure exactly whats going to come of it. ;3 So pardon if there are any vagaries within this. . . ))
Ravii trotted through the slush, pleased that warm front had moved through and stained a bit of sunshine upon the world. The thin sheets of ice had transformed in to puddles, while the thicker sheets were becoming masses of slush. Water fell from the limbs of the trees in the forest like rain, and the cream and violet female was pleased.
The warmer tempertures meant a break from the cold, and hopefully the dawning of spring. Oh, how the female couldn't wait for the rainstorms to wash away the last of the snow and cold. Flowers would be springing out of the ground, decorating the barren and once frozen land in to something much more beautiful. The river would open up and widen thanks to the melting snow, and the waterfall would become something truly spectacular to see.
Ravii adored the spring, and though she knew they'd probably face a few more winter blizzards, today the female couldn't help but enjoy the break in weather. Trotting lightly through the woods, the cream female couldn't help but heave a gentle sigh.
It had been but a few weeks since she'd run in to that ravishing red male. And yet, why were her thoughts drawn to him? He'd said such wonderful things, had told her so many niceties. But had he meant them, she questioned. . ?
Oh, he must have. Why string her along. . .? It just didn't make a lick of sense. Besides, he'd been nothing but sincere with her, and after she'd parted ways the female felt as if she could float on air. His words made her feel good, and there was nothing wrong with that.
Still feeling giddy as pup, the wolfess turned her trot in to a run, and she felt as if she could fly. It was a glorious day today as the female dodged through the underbrush carelessly.
Life just couldn't get any better and the shewolf had never been more happy and radiant.

Equus shivered his coat as yet another splatter of slush landed on his back. Inevitably some of the freezing water made it through his tough outer coat and slid through his inner coat to touch his skin with it's prickly fingers. Wrinkling up his lips, he shuddered his coat again.
If anything, this was the starry wolf's least favorite time of year. All other seasons and transitions of seasons he found pleasant. But this slushy, muddy, damp and soggy time between winter and spring just depressed him. With another curl of his lip, he trod through a chilly mud puddle. There weren't many yet, thank goodness... the thaw was only temporary. But he knew more was to come, and he found it generally depressing.
Just then, scattering his gloomy thoughts like leaves on the wind, a flash of violet in the corner of his vision caught his attentino, and he turned in time to see a she-wolf go flying through the slushy snow. Her body language spoke of pure joy and happiness, as if she had wings upon her paws. Taken by surprise, he stared after her, his heart lifting to soar after her, drawn by the brightness of his spirits. He found her very happiness uplifting, despite the dreariness of the straggling winter.
He blinked once, realizing she was about to disappear from sight, and leapt forward, paws reaching to squish in the occasionally soft earth, unheeding of the mud. He was determined to chase down this happiness, to learn what made her glow so, and to perhaps partake of that feeling and forget his seasonal doledrums. Anything was better than plodding around feeling sorry for himself.

Ravii was so lost in her joyous thoughts that it took her a bit to hear the pattering of slush behind her. Glancing over her shoulder, a moment of concern reaching her, she noticed there was a darker furred wolf following her full speed.
She wasn't sure exactly whether he was running her out of some sort of secret territory, or just running for the sake of running. He didn't look familiar - he was too young to be Mingan or Occam, or any of the darker furred acquaintences - but he didn't seem hostile either.
Oh, maybe it didn't matter?
Slowing her jog for just a moment, the playful female decided to test the waters. It wasn't often she had a stranger in such hot persuit, and her playful nature radiated fully. Tail wagging behind her like like a whipping flag, as she allowed Equus to approach, blue eyes danced in good humor.
Giving a playfully yip, she posed a challange to the stranger. "Think you can keep up?"
And with that, ears glued to her head, the cream and violet wolfess pulled the last of her reserves in to a sprint. Running as fast as she could, knowing the area well, she dodged through the woods without care.
Concerned about slipping? Not really - slush was slush. And if Equus followed, he'd find she'd lead him to an open clearning not too far ahead. It was a pleasant spot, and the perfect place for catching ones breath after such an exhilirating run.
((Sorry for the short post! Roomie kept talking and I can't focus on both writing and his blabbering. *grins* Better to come next post, promise. ))

He wasn't sure what he had expected to happen, darting after a female wolf like he had. When she'd begun to slow, he'd suddenly wondered what he would do if he caught up to her. Say something stupid? She saved him from that embarassment, however, with a waving tail and a sassy challenge. Then she was off like a shot again!
With an eager yelp, he surged forward, digging his pads deep into the warming earth. He darted along behind her, following her path exactly. Pah, could he keep up? He may be young, but he wasn't a pup! His tongue lolled with enthusiasm as he charged along behind her. In fact, he was so focused on following those bounding cream hindquarters that it came as a shock when they broke out from beneath the trees into a brilliant and very damp clearing. He swerved to one side to avoid crashing into her when she slowed.
And just his luck, still blinking in the sudden sunshine, his paws slipped in the slick earth where the sun had melted the snow. Scrambling to keep his balance, he teetered forward, eyes widening. No, he would not embarass himself this way! He wouldn't! He staggered across the clearing, then promptly tripped over the tiniest of roots poking above the ground. With only enough time for a mental sigh and to squeeze his eyes shut, he plunged muzzle-first into a rather large mud puddle.
Brown liquid splattered all over his lovely starred coat, giving him a new color scheme. Sitting up with a closed-mouth sigh, he shook the worst of it off his face before finally looking over at the female with a sheepish look. "I think I kept up a little too well, and forgot my brakes."

Ravii whirled around, sure footed as ever to face her challanger, only to watch him slip and slide across the damp ground. Blue eyes bright she couldn't help but stare as Equus tried so very hard to catch himself. Sadly, despite his most valient of efforts, the starred spooted wolf took a nose dive in to the mud and muck.
Oh dear . . .
The little laugh that escaped Ravii as she trotted over to the adolescent held no mockery. She couldn't HELP it though. He just looked so wounded by his fall that the wolfess couldn't help but smile. "I'm sorry," she apologized politely through her chuckel as she watched him shake some of the mud from his fur. "But you just tried so hard to stop yourself. You aren't hurt, are you?" She walked around the wolf, tail tip wagging and ears relaxed. No, she wasn't going to force her dominance on him, or challange him, or whatever it was that many others preferred to do.
As far as she were concerned they were on equal playing fields, and dominance really wasn't that important. Not here, not now, and if he were Finished circling the newcomer, she flopped down on her haunches, sides heaving in and out as she panted and caught her breath.
"A good little run," she agreed amicably, eyes light with amusement. "Now whom might I thank for such a good chase?"

Equuleus smiled at her as she let loose an involuntary giggle at his sorry state. His eyes twinkled with amusement at his own expense. He rose from the mud, the fur around his paws sticking at odd angles, as she circled him. His own tail was waving, flinging mud at her accidentally, though at low velocity, since it was a slow swing of comfortable good-nature.
"Yes, I'm fine... the only thing hurt is my pride." He sat his rump down and suck a hind foot in one ear, where a glob of mud had flown. It ITCHED! As she finished her round of inspecting him and sat, he again bobbed his nose down in a gesture of respect for the older wolf, catching his own breath, though the blow to his nose and his pride had done most of that for him.
"My name is Equuleus." He tipped his head to the side like a laughing puppy, tongue lolling despite the mud on his muzzle. "But I usually go by Equus." His eyes still smiled, and his tail tip was flipping this way and that like a beached fish. A very pleased beached fish, perhaps. "And may I ask your name, friend?"

((Argh - sorry for the shortness. >< )) Ravii didn't mind the mud, or the mess. It was something she (as any wolf) would be used to. She couldn't help but smile at him, amused at his appearance. Such a fine coat marred by globs of muck, and causing the fur to stick together and out in all varieties of strange positions.
Amusing, he was, but the mud caked wolf was endearing nonetheless. As she studied him, she could tell he was young. Not puppy young, but younger than her own self. Still, he seemed of congenial nature, and had the ability to laugh at even himself. A good quality, and one Ravii definitly approved of.
"A pleasure, Equus," she greeted, blue eyes bright. "I'm called Ravii, and there really isn't any way to shorten that name without it sounding awkward." She laughed, pawing at the slick mud before her. Rav? Nah - that sounded too harsh, and Ii just didn't make sense! Oh no, Ravii was her name and the wolfess was quite proud of it.
"You're a quick one, you are," she complimented sincerely, before her blue eyes lighted with mirth. "Or I could simply be getting old and losing my touch."

The younger male barked a loud laugh at Ravii's quip about getting old. "I seriously doubt that you would be slow, even when old age lies heavily upon you." He stretched out, heedless of the mud soaking into his belly. For once, he really didn't care. "Quick I may be, but your paws are more swift, I'd say." It was honest admiration coming through, with just a dab of flattery. It never hurt to praise those higher up than you, after all, right?
He rolled over, somewhat getting his body out of a mud puddle and up onto a rise in the ground that showed the first beginnings of grass. "So what has led you on a such a merry run that you caught me up in your joyous charge too?" He sat up again and cocked his head at her, more serious now. "You realize that you radiated happiness as you bolted by, don't you?" He paused to nibble at a spot on his foreleg where the mud was beginning to dry and was tugging on his fur uncomfortably. "I am not a fan of this melting time, really... and was feeling sorry for myself."
His ears wilted a bit. Really, he did not like this muddy time at all. But again the memory flashed of her sprinting by, and he looked up at her again with a smile. "But you looked like you were having such fun and were so enthralled in your own world of joy, I got caught up in it!"

Ravii followed Equus' movements and slid her forelegs out before her, resting belly first in the mud. She listened to the dark furred male, and gave a small laugh at his compliments. A sweet wolf, to say the least, and absolutely perfect company. He seemed to be of good nature himself, and together the pair of them could really shine.
Her muddy tail tip wagged back and forth as she listened to Equus' words. As he spoke of his earlier round of depression, the female whined softly within her throat. The poor thing . . . "I don't particularly like this time of the year either," she agreed, looking down at the sticky muck around them. "But," she added, eyes lighting in good humor, "This time of the year only lets us know that spring isn't far off! So the mud and slush isn't all bad."
That's how she looked at the world, at least. The muddy times meant that greener and warmer times were close by. Winter would be thawed out completely within a few weeks, and everything would begin anew.
"I am glad that you joined me, I . . . " Ravii paused, glancing around her as if someone or something might be listening. Sliding forward on her belly, a bit closer to Equus, the cream and violet girl gave a little laugh. "Can I let you in on a secret?"
Oh, how she wanted to let someone know the joyous news. She hadn't had a chance to come across Eros this morning, and part of the female wanted him to figure it out himself. Wouldn't it be quite the shock when he realized that, in such a short time, they were to have a family together?
Since she couldn't speak to Eros, perhaps Equus could be a kind and understanding ear. "It seems spring isn't the only arrival I can anticipate," she started, voice ringing with maternal delight and pride. "For there are puppies on the way this season, and I'm a new mother to be."
Her smile was so broad that the wolfess practically was laughing. She knew she looked quite the ridiculous sight, but who cared!? Nothing mattered anymore, nothing but the good news of what was to come, and her ever loving mate, Eros.
How things changed so quickly! One day she was nothing but her own best-friend and now, a few weeks later, she was a mother-to-be with an ever adoring and loving crimson furred mate.
Staring delightedly up at Equus, she wanted the stranger to be happy for her, and to continue to bask in her joy. If he could be happy because she was happy, than Ravii was doing right. And of all the times she wanted someone to rejoice with her, today was that day.

The dark wolf enjoyed having someone to listen to him. He had never been treated coldly, but it seemed like Ravii was really listening. It made a big impression on him, causing him to feel more devoted to keeping this she-wolf happy. Life was good when Ravii was happy!
His ears pricked forward and his tail stilled as he watched her inch closer, looking like she would burst from excitement. And she wanted to share with him? He wiggled closer to her as well, head low and ears thrown forward eagerly to hear what she would tell him.
Her revelation stunned him. She had puppies? He blinked slowly, his surprise and thoughtfulness evident. Puppies? As in... inside her? His jaw dropped open suddenly, hanging there for a moment that stretched for what seemed a hundred pounding heartbeats. Puppies! With a yip he surged forward to nuzzle and lick her ecstatically. "How wonderful! Fantastic! Puppies!" He lavished her with love like a puppy himself, fawning on a favorite and special auntie.
He then danced backwards and began chasing his tail for joy. Puppies! Why did that make him so very happy? He stopped, dizzy, to consider the answer. A few slight staggers later, he realized it was because it made HER so very happy. Giddily he also realized he was acting ridiculous. He was nearly full grown, and here he was, capering around like a fool around a pregnant female he didn't know!
That last thought stopped his mad joy, as he realized that there might just be a very jealous male around nearby. He gasped a breath from his wild revelry and padded back to her, panting. He gave her one last lick on the cheek and lay down again, eyes cautious. "I'm sure both you and your mate must be deleriously happy about that!" He paused and tilted his head, ears swiveling. "But why is it a secret?"

((OMG - Equus is adorable! n.n )) It appeared Ravii had a rival when it came to contagious good natures - Equus own brightness shone like that stars that dotted his thick coat. The cream female wasn't sure exactly how the male would respond to the announcement, especially since they'd only just met, but nothing could have prepared Ravii for his own outlet of joy.
Finding herself lavished in such gleeful attention, Ravii couldn't help but laugh and giggle like a puppy herself! Half-rolling on her side, she reached up and pawed playfully at the dark furred male as if he were as close as kin! Ravii had no kin, so friends and acquaintences were her only family. Well. . .they were. With Eros in her life, and now a new breed growing within her, the wolfess knew that she'd never need to fear lonliness again.
Watching as the gangly adolescent scampered around before her, Ravii couldn't help but hope for such an exuberant reaction from her own mate. Would Eros be just as pleased? Deep in her heart, the shewolf knew that he would. He had to be - there was no other way to respond to such beautful, wonderful news.
As the excitement seemed to die down, she stayed rested upon her side, peering up at the male. Her mate? Eros? Well. . .Ravii understood she was deliriously happy, but Eros? "Well, to be honest," she admitted, smile still tinged with maternal radiance, "Eros doesn't know yet. I only just found out, and . . .well . . . I do hope he'll be just as excited. In fact, I'm sure he will!"
Yes. . why on earth wouldn't her ever sweet and loving mate be concerned? "Oh, and don't worry about him," she reassured Equus, sensing a spark of tension and witnessing the caution in his eyes. "He's not the over-protective and jealous sort."
At least she didn't think he was. But, even if he lurked within the neighborhood, Equus had crossed no boundries. Perhaps they were mere aquaintences, but a friendship was already rooted in bloom.

The young wolf smiled, tongue lolling, as she confessed to him why it was a secret. So he was the first to know! Well... not necessarily. He just knew before the daddy did. It made him feel special. And he really was relieved to hear that this Eros wasn't likely to come charging in, snarling at him to not steal his mate. He had nothing of the kind in mind, and a part of him was indignant just thinking about that possibility.
But hearing that the father of those darling pups-to-come didn't know he was a father glavanized Equus. He surged to his paws with a yip. "Oh, I'm sure he would want to know as soon as possible!" He paused then and his ears folded in embarassment. "I would want to, if I was going to be a father!" To cover his acute awareness at how much of his personal feelings he'd revealed by that statement, he bounded off in a random direction.
Of course it wasn't very long before he spun and came back to meekly ask, "Do you think we should go find him? And... uh... which direction would he be in?" A lowered head and tucked tail emphasized how silly he felt. What in the WORLD was wrong with him today??

Ravii gave a gentle laugh at Equus' claim. He certainly was an excitable one, wasn't he? But the cream female didn't mind, not in the least! It was nice to have such a spunky companion and one that seemed to really embrace life and all it offered. The blue eyed wolfess couldn't imagine seeing Equus down or feeling low - with as much spark he had and as good natured as he was, Ravii could only hope such feelings were a rarity.
"Well," Ravii began, still lounging in the mud as she watched the young wolf romp around. "I. . I don't know why its a secret really. I would hope that he'd feel as much joy as you, but. . ." The wolfess pawed the ground, almost coyly as she ducked her head. "I must admit I don't know how he's going to react to the news! We haven't been together very long and . . ." She trailed off, a bit confused herself at why she felt so timid about sharing such news with Eros.
He would be delighted over such news. . .right?
If only the wolfess knew, and maybe (deep down) part of her did.
Perhaps it was the fact that the subject of a family or puppies had never come up. Oh, Eros still wooed her daily and how Ravii adored such attention and affection. But when it came down to weaving out the details, like starting a pack and having puppies . . . the more the cream and violet furred wolf thought about it, the more she realized their conversations never breached such subjects.
Well, she realized, very soon the subject WOULD come up. There wouldn't be any way to avoid it now that she was a mama-to-be.
"Eros could be around anywhere, to be honest." The wolfess pricked her ears, looking around the clearing as if she expected the white and crimson male to appear. "But I think I left him in the dust when I began my run," she laughed, not sensing her mate anywhere within their vacinity.

Equus honestly wasn't used to being around she-wolves. In the pack he was always off doing something for Phib or someone else. Thus it was that the inexperienced male did not recognize the doubt in Ravii's eyes, nor pick up on her uncertainty concerning her mate. Had he noticed, he might have moved to console her... soothe her. Perhaps steal her, as was the way of wolves. There was a reason most males were jealous over their mates.
But happily, he did not realize this weakness in the relationship, and he took her at her words. He heard only a nervous mother and a mate eager to tell the good news. But, considering that the news was still to be told, and the male could be anywhere... Equus opted to play it safe.
"Well, I wish you the best with your litter, Ravii," he told her sincerely, padding over to nuzzle her under the chin affectionately, eyes still shining with admiration of her. "I'll be sure to come check on you and perhaps meet Eros... and the pups!" His paws did a quick-step dance in place for a moment before stilling again. "For now, I think I should return to my pack. Farewell, my new friend!"
With a merry howl and a wave of his tail, he bounded away through the slush, a little more graceful this time than earlier, despite the growing shadows from the sun's slow progress across the sky. Soon it would be evening, and he wished to be back in safe territory before then. Later he'd reflect on his new friend and her situation. Who knows what revelations such mulling would bring?

"Fare well, Equus," Ravii wished the dark furred wolf a fond farewell as he bounded off. What an interesting afternoon, to say the least. She'd never expected to bound into such a personable wolf, muchless one who was so sincerely excited. Thinking back on the meeting, the cream and mudstained female couldn't help but laugh.
Oh, what a glorious day it was turning out to be.
Rising from the mucky forest floor, the wolfess shook out her coat. Despite the dirt, nothing was able to dampen Ravii's spirits. Glancing around, the wolfess searched for any familiar scents, hoping to catch Eros somewhere nearby. The blue eyed wolf couldn't wait to see her crimson companion, to lavish him with nuzzles, licks and be nothing short of close to him.
Part of the female hoped Equus would be true to his word - she very much would like her new family to meet up with one so kind. It wouldn't be long, though, before she could truly call herself a mother.
Head and tail rasied high, Ravii began her search for her love, her Eros.
