OMG! I was reminded that my birthday is on April 6th *sigh* i'm gonna be 20 and no longer a teenager *sniff*

I will have more art added soon when i finish my sketches and hopefully even make a habit of coloring them in the future.

Name: Chay w. Rawling
Age: 20
Birthplace: Oxnard, California; the future Los Angeles
Sign Aries
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 130 lbs
Eyes: Light gold-brown
Skin: Light, fair
Orientation: Straight
Voice: On the soft side, a bit motherly at times, sounds younger than she looks.
Ethnicity Mostly Irish and a German with a hint of Euromutt.
Favorite foods: Jerky, pasta and bakery sweets
Hair: Wavy grown out bangs in the front, the weight of her hair pulls it down straight in the back towards her bum. Golden brown at the front and at the ends of her hair and turns darker towards the scalp.

Appearance: She's not runway model material but her natural beauty puts her on the 'easy on the eyes' side of the visual scale. Two hooped earings in each ear. Sickly and pale looking, the dark circles around her watery eyes persist no matter how much she tries to sleep. She always wears a longsleeve shirt under a t-shirt, usually with slightly baggy jeans and working boots along with some sort of Gilligan style hat or head wrap. Has a scar on her throat from multiple traquiotomys and another few on her left hand from a few nasty bites with a wild otter. A small scar on her head that's hidden by her hair.

Current Occupations: So far has been working as geologist/volcanologist (volcanos not vulcans )

Personality: Used to be feisty, eager to explain random facts about animals or nature to anyone who would listen, cheerful and outgoing but reserved when she felt the need to be. Now she's is very withdrawn, lethargic, rarely speaks since she's fighting to catch her breath after a fit of coughing and seems to be unaware of her surroundings half of the time. Because of Chay's hallucinations and slowly losing her sight in one eye she tends to be a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to reacting to something out of the ordinary. In response she doesn't react normally to a crisis involving a scene that can be confused for another hallucination. She's almost eerily relaxed unless it starts to hurt her. On the upside her resulted 'desensitization' will likely help her keep calm if in limited amounts to spend more time trying to do what's needed to be done instead of crying over spilled milk. Humor seems to be the best way to help her get through life the best, i doesn't take as much energy as crying and she's tired of taking the depression and whinny route.

Likes: Teaching her pet rat tricks, animals, re-enacting at pirate faires, chocolate, sleeping, Tai Chi, exploring, swimming, fishing, crocheting, crafting things with her hands.

Dislikes: Spiders, heights, conflicts, her domineering businessman for a father, people smoking, worsening allergies, her annoying hallucinations, taking medicine, crowded places, feeling confined or restricted, anyone that dares to hurt her rat.

Strengths: When setting her mind on something she can be a bit, obsessive, others call it persistent allowing her to push through and be able to get things done even if she's not at her best. Not the most adept living in the city Chay's true colors show when she plays 'survivalist' out in the forest building natural shelters with what's available around her. Always feeling the need to keep her hands busy she's learned craft things like sewing and crocheting allowing her to make what she needed instead of buying at an overpriced store(it doesn't count for her clothes). Most of what she learned was from watching a lot of Discovery Channel while she was growing up leaving her with an interesting array of knowledge from removing leeches to what not to do during a bear attack. And they say that tv isn't educational blaugh

Weaknesses: Indecisiveness. Obviously at current she's coughing and wheezing like she has the advanced stage of emphezema so she's not very strong nor completely THERE but at least she still has her sanity. Even though she spends lots of time outdoors, her fair complextion causes for some nasty sunburns, sunscreen doesn't seem to protect her for very long so she tends to make it a habit of covering up any exposed skin. If anything happens to her Poppie she would likely go ballistic with anyone responsible since she practically considers the rodent as her lil daughter. She's not the best at communicating with people, Chay tends to have a hard time trying to explain to someone what she's trying to say. Most likely because her allergy symptoms usually shooed away the people around her thinking that she was sick leaving her to find social interaction with the less judgmentally hindered; her pets. Not particularly a people person in general her behavior can be somewhat spontanious switching from joyful to irritated even if its not directed at them. Her hallucinations and dreams seem to play a role with how she'll be during any time of day.

Phobias:Glossophobia, arachnophobia

Family: Grandmother(deceased)- Never had a chance to see her since she died before Chay was even born.

Grandfather(deceased)- Chay didn't really get to know him even though she moved into his house to care for him for four years with emphezema.

Father(enstranged)- He does care for his daughter, but the methods that he uses are far from conventional. He considers working her to the bone and making her go to class even if she has the flu as a way of "preparing" her for the real world.

Mother(close)- Spent most of their time together out of any other family member until they started sharing their time with the newborn niece.Always was a worry wort when it came to her daughter leaving her sight for any extended period of time.

Older sister(slightly disheartened)- Her sister is actually her half sister on her father's side. It didn't seem to affect their relationship until the sister had her daughter. They've had a few tense discussions about how to raise the child since Chay was needed to help raise her. Its left their sisterly relationship a little skiddish.

Niece(close)- At almost two years old she's a wriggly bundle of energy. You'd never think she was a preme. Whenever she got into a fit of crying, seeing her auntie Chay always seemed to bring a smile to her tear covered face.

Poppet(inseperable)- Gifted to her by a friend that started out as a joke saying they had a family resemblance; they both sneezed a lot.

Education: Highschool, College AA, AS and BS degrees.

Hobbies:If Chay's not swimming or fishing she's likely to be exploring forests around her in places that she's been sent to do her job. She's been known to crotchet/sew, make her own bags for her things because with her line of work she tends to wear them out rather quickly.

Habits: As adventurous as Chay tends to be, her worsening condition has made her a bit of a homebody. When she reaches a different destination such as a new hotel or apartment she will mentally mark it as her home and rarely leave that location unless she absolutely needs something or transfers to yet another location. If she is left with nothing to work her mind her hands tend to move themselves trying to find anything around to to keep her occupied. And if she's left in an empty room then she'll eventually stare off into space with random bodily twitches making you wonder what's going on in her head. When sitting somewhere she tends to spend half the time fidgeting around with her legs over an armrest or even crouching making it hard for any person that may be talking to her to focus on any task at hand(not the best habit when you go in for a formal job interview). No matter where Chay goes, except for when she's swimming she always has her rat Poppet with her stashed away in her handmade bag whether it be her distain for caging up animals or in constant need of comfort using her as a kind of security blanket. Chay feels like she's missing something important like a part of herself when she has to go somewhere without her rat. She has a habit of balling up her anger instead of facing the person that's causing it. Only to later on to create small outbursts of distress being triggered by smaller annoyances aka the straw that broke the camel's back.

Abilities:Identifying rocks, knowledge of volcanic activity, scuba diving, swimming, fishing, crocheting, sewing(mostly patchwork and mending), Tai Chi, a little bit of stick fighting and kickboxing for the sake of self-defense, teaching rodents tricks, climbing- but she doesn't like heights so she wouldn't go up any more than a few feet, crafting various items from hats to shelters(she's no MacGyver though, its not very likely the object that she makes will come out well unless she's had a lot of practice such as her bag-making)

Background: Since a very young age she's been out in the backyard studying bugs or staring at the animals during visits to the zoo. She would spend more time playing with pets than her friends when they would come over to show off their new puppy or kitten. Everyone was certain that she would be a sort of veterinarian when she grew up. Later on though, her relatives began to wonder if she had become allergic to animals and barred her from working with them there after.

When Chay was about to have her ninth birthday her family had to move into her grandfathers house to take care of him. The house was absolutedly filled with newspapers going back to the 1970's along with other old dusty goodies that went back even further. Not the best place to be raised when everyday was filled with fire hazards. Well apparently his habit of smoking picked up from WWII turned from pnemonia to emphezema. Quite a nasty irreversable and degenerative disease that basically makes your lungs lose its youthful rebound leaving you coughing up the last ten or twenty plus years of junk you've been inhaling while smoking.

Supposedly he was only supposed to live only another six months. While the months moved on the house was properly cleaned ridding it of any lung irritants to help prevent any further damage that could be avoided. At the same time Chay's well-being seemed to improve as well. As the months of care turned to years Chay was able to learn how to cook and clean for her grandfather while her parents were at work. Sadly she spent more time with her pocket pets that had to be kept at the other end of the house instead of what time was left with him.

During a visit to one of the neighbors dogs Chay had a little run it with a stray canine tooth while she was harmlessly trying to give the dog a hug. At first she didn't even know what happened since she was still in shock from her initial meeting with the ground....until blood started dripping down her face and onto her arms. Three hours in the emergency waiting room, two bags of ice and a roll of paper towels later a rather unsavory nurse demonstrated why she needed skinstaples. By proceeding to re-open the wound allowing a pool of blood to well up and cramming some gauze over it. Chay never had a stronger will to punch someone out in her life it hurt so much. But after a greet with the much gentler doctor and three skin staples she was free to go home. She never saw that dog again, it wasn't his fault.

Four years after Chay had first moved to Grampa's house, she found him laying down at the bottom of the steps that he was trying to walk down. His health quickly gave out and he slipped into a coma before finally dying in bed with Chay and her parents standing around. The noisy air machine that had provided him with oxygen for so many years was turned off. Leaving the entire house deathly silent.

While she was in highschool she began to vomit frequently unable to eat or even drink for the past couple of days. Chay's mom had to bring her into the emergency room three times before a doctor found her severely dehydrated and distressed. They gave her steroid heavy medication to bring down the swelling in her throat and FINALLY diagnosed her with "possible" allergies.

In the upcoming months her sinus infections became more frequent and harsh. She was always tired but couldn't sleep because her frequent coughing would keep her awake for days at a time that no amount of Nyquil and codine filled cough medicine could fix. It was only after she would pass out from exhaustion that would allow her some rest but only for a couple of hours before the coughing would start up again.

By the time Chay was in college she had a bad scar on her throat from the traquiotomys the doctors had to perform from her persistent bronchial spasms. What seemed to help her was scuba diving to study shield volcanoes and vacant flooded lava tubes. Not only did she not have to worry about pollen but her coughing fits would diminish completely until she had to come back to the surface.

Quite recently Chay was completely incoherent and hospitalized for multiple complications such as but not limited to: bronchial swelling, degenerative loss of sight, uncontrollable coughing, wheezing, loss of motor skills, severe abdominal pain, vomiting and hallucinations.(although she had been suffering from hallucinations earlier on, they have become too apparent for her to avoid people from noticing her talking or reacting to something even though the room was empty)
This can't possible be just because of some silly allergies! Could it?

If you wanna know what's the REAL trouble with her highlight>>> Her allergies are troubling her but it only plays in half the role of her agony masking the real trouble, she makes a nasty discovery that she somehow got a parasite in her brain ewww. Buahahahaha, poor girl.

She REALLY likes ratties Art by Chhayawolf
Animals I'm hopeful for: just giant river otter with wings (they wouldn't be functional enough for flight making her try to figure out what they WOULD be for).

Her rat Poppie

Name: Poppet but they call her Poppie

Age: 1 1/2 years

Likes: Grooming Chay, eating avocado, getting neck rubs, constant snuggling, gnawing stuff

Dislikes: Other rats, being seperated from Chay, cheese, waking up

Personality: She completely thinks she's a dog and acts like one too; such as playing fetch with a super bouncy ball, content to sleep her days away in Chay's bag or on her shoulder but once she's awake she's extremely hyper trying to pick play-fights with people's hands.

Appearance: Black hooded with brown splotches running down her back.

The Giant Otter, Pteronura brasiliensis, (also known as the river wolf) is the longest of the world's otters, as well as one of the largest mustelids. It is native to South America but is endangered and is also very rare in captivity.

Physical characteristics

Giant otters have a seal-like head with well-developed jaw muscles and 34-36 teeth. Their wide, flattened wedge of a tail enables them to swim with great speed and maneuverability underwater. Giant otters are about six feet long from head to tail, and they usually weigh between 60 and 70 pounds. Males are only slightly larger than females.

The otters' forefeet are shorter than their hind feet, and each foot has five toes with sharp non-retractile claws and webbing that reaches the tips of the toes.Their ears are small and round and like their nostrils, can be closed by special muscles when underwater.

The fur of river otters is so dense that water never reaches their skin, even when they're swimming. Giant otter guard hairs trap air and keep the dense inner fur dry. Their coat is mainly brown or gray and is usually darker on the back and lighter on the chest, throat and underside. Their creamy white throat patch is like a fingerprint - uniquely shaped, it can be used to help identify individuals.

Its fur is dense, thick and velvety, and is highly sought after by fur traders. The guard hairs are short, 5/16 in (8 mm) long, twice as long as the under-fur. The fur is water repellent and is a deep chocolate brown in colour. A unique white mark is located on the throat that can be used to distinguish between individuals. The head is round and the ears are small. The nose is completely covered in fur, with only the two slit-like nostrils visible. The eyes are large and acute, perfect for hunting underwater. The legs are short and stubby and end in large webbed feet tipped with sharp claws. The Giant Otter is well suited for an aquatic life, and can close its ears while underwater.

Feeding ecology

In the wild, giant otters mainly eat fish, but frogs, small caimans, snakes, crayfish and crabs can also make up part of their diet. Otters have also been known to eat rainbow trout, catfish, tilapia, piranha, perch, squid and yellow perch. It can hunt both in groups and alone, tending to head towards the deeper waters while in groups. It consumes up to 10 lb (4.5 kg) of food each day, using mostly its eyesight to capture its prey.

Social and reproductive biology

Giant otters are more vocal than the North American river otters. They have very distinctive sounds and complex communication. Giant otters are diurnal, or active during the day. They catch prey with their mouths and hold it with their paws while eating.

They will clear areas along the banks of lakes or rivers which they use for resting and grooming. Both females and males scent-mark their territory. Giant otters are member of the Mustelid family, which also includes weasels, skunks and ferrets. All the animals of the Mustelid family have strong scent glands.

The Giant Otter is a highly social animal and lives in extended family groups of between 4-8 members. Group members share roles within the group, structured around the dominant breeding pair. The females have a gestation period of 65-70 days, giving birth to 1-5 young. Mothers give birth in an underground den near the river shore. Otter pups are taught to swim after two months and left to fend for themselves after two to three years. The Giant Otter is the only species of mustelid that is monogamous.

Why would she be on the island?
I've come up with multiple scenarios and find it hard to choose which....so i've decided to throw out the two that fit in the best. sweatdrop

A Recently underwater harmonic tremors(an indication of volcanic activity) has been reported not very far from the island(even though they don't know the island is there). Her method of transportation would either be by water aircraft or boat.
B She has been using serum 45 given to her by a 'coleage' finding it to somehow help her allergies and the extra muscle is just enough to help her appear and feel healthy enough to continue her scuba diving. When her co-worker/supplier dissappears so does her supply. Maybe she could find a way to contact the company to get some more of thoughs 'vitamins'.

Wouldn't it be hard to make her "dissappear"? You know with the helping taking care of her sister and all?
Not at all really, Chay moved into an apartment away from home because of her latest job. She hasn't had the time to even aquaint herself with her new boss or employees and family won't expect her back for months. She's called in sick frequently and her employer wouldn't have her family's contact information.

Why a giant river Otter?
Quite the nature girl she spent a lot of her freetime swimming, fishing and especially scuba diving partially because it helped alleviate any symptoms she's had. I think its possible that Moreau would choose an otter serum noticing her scuba experience in her resume or showing her fondness for swimming. Its actually more likely that he'd see the affects of an overly social, carefree and rambunctious animal would have an affect on her lethargic state of mind. Hence forth extreme conflict ensues. Plus the fact that i see no other otters on the island and there's not many aquatic land-dwelling mammals about.

Why small wings
Why not? Maybe the scientists are experimenting with random mutations or improvised evolution to see if it would enhance or hinder her. Likely she would see if she could try to use them in the aid of swimming or work them as a secondary pair of hands. But then again i'm not so sure the extra funds will come in due to complications in commissions and college work so i'd just be happy with the giant otter.

Does she HAVE to have a medical condition? What's with the hallucinations?

Last i've checked no one has pulled the infected by parasites card and it would prove to be a very interesting if not scary and grotesque way to make up for any lack of trauma she might suffer turning into a winged otter. The hallucinations can easily be explained but if i told you wouldn't that take all the fun out of it?

Is she going crazy from having the hallucinations and all?

Aside from acting like she's 'awake but no one's home' half of the time she seems to take the sight of horrendous things that can only be seen in dreams or from using drugs quite well. She'll even talk to the hallucination fully knowing that its not real to humor herself and get her mind off of her condition.

Her inventory

-Crotchet hooks and yarn
-Basic sewing/mending kit
-Hand-made crotchet bag to hold Poppie
-Various medications from nasal sprays and herbal supplements to prescription drugs and Nyquil.
-MP3 player with an assortment of songs
-several sets of clothing
-sandals

Funds: Just made it to 20k! It'll be a miracle if i can get another 500k

What makes you think your worthy of being a part of Dr. Moreau's island?
Its more like wishing to add any possible type of diversity available or throwing in another 'toy' for the kids, i mean doctors to play with, torment and mutilate, err i mean study and research! To put it more basically, i put a lot of time and research into any characters i make drawing visual references for people to have a good idea of what they look like. I take the time to look over other people's profiles and help them out as well because to me its common courtesy EVEN if other's seem too busy with theirs to bother with anyone else. I also make sure to check the IoDM forums once a day for good measure to see if anyone needs help with anything or for any recent news. I'm also going to put up some threads that will help fellow questers who are searching for artists to draw their characters in the near future. I don't think i'm better than anyone else on the forum i'm just putting all my effort into it to make it more enjoyable for everyone.

What do you think is the strong point/points of your profile?
I've changed it so many times that i actually don't completely know right now, but i think i've made it detailed enough by now so that everyone would have a darn good feel for the character. She's not little miss pretty/perfect/preppy nor is she crazy, neurotic or criminal. There's a good amount of weaknesses to her and even after, if or when she's free of her complications/illness she's still very "human" and realistic overall. And when i mean realistic, i mean just about every part of her profile is based on fact either from myself or others.

Chay's job resume

Chay w. Rawling

Education: AA, AS, BS college degrees

Courses taken include: Geomorphology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Petrology, Structural geology, Sedimentary geology, Remote sensing, Geology lab, Algebra, Geometry, trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Basic computer language, scuba diving

Experience:

-More than two years of working in the field of geology.
-One year for working in the field of volcanology.
-Obtained scuba diving experience studying underwater shield volcanoes and inactive lava tubes.
-Collected samples at Hawai'i main island's shield volcano.
____________________________________________________________

Extra random Chay facts

-Although she's never had a boyfriend by choice she often feels lonely for male company.(not the intimate type of lonely xd )

-When she was little kept her favorite pet hamster(when it died) preserved in a jar in her closet. Till her parents found it that is.

-Any sound similar to the drone of an oxygen machine
(not the darth vader kind) as a background noise seems to comfort her especially when she has a hard time falling asleep.

-For a while she studied to be a massage therapist.

-When one or more people are scared to do something like say go into a scary house or tresspass, she reacts oppositely by going into the house having no clue where her sudden bravery came from. But when the person or people are brave, she finds herself too scared to do it.

-She has a weak spot for guys with long hair.

-Her food allergies have "blessed" her with a sensitive stomach making it impossible to eat greasy junk food.

-Although she's extremely fond of meaty foods, the only kinds she can tolerate is jerky, seafood, and pastas with meatsauce.

-Her favorite cartoon show she watched when she was a kid was teenage mutant ninja turtles.

-If she lived in anything larger than a small home or apartment it ends up being cluttered from her packrat tendencies.

-When entertaining at a pirate faire she does quite well handling a crowd, but if she has to do any public speaking anywhere else fifty percent of the time she passes out before even reaching the podium.

-There's a small lone freckle at the base of her pinky toe.

-Even though she's allergic to chocolate and milk she can't help but munch on oreos with a glass o' milk anytime she gets the opportunity. (to her its worth the two hours of coughing and battling with throat junk afterwards)

-A faded white X can be seen on the tops of both her feet from wearing her pirate sandals for too long in the sun.

-When having her allergy fits the only thing she could really do was stay indoors and study for class instead of going outside like everyone else. That's how she ended up with her, AA, AS and BS degrees just before she turned twenty.

-The funny thing about her having accomplishing all three degrees early on is that she HATES school xd

-She's learned some first aid from college but may as well throw her experience out the door because she completely forgets what to do when she's needed.

-Practicing her stick fighting technigues often ends with a stick to the face, darn recoil!

-She suspects her rat has allergies too since Poppet tends to sneeze nice big wet ones in little fits.

-Doesn't like fish unless its in a rice roll or served as sushi, she won't touch it if its cooked.

Chay's wondering why her hallucination is having such a hard time getting off the bed.

User Image
I did a few earlier concept ideas for 100% Chay, the bottom picture became just about the final version.

User Image
Chay just about 100% is wondering who it is off in the distance.

User Image
Its all pertiful and coloured.

User Image
Background lighting is fun!

User Image
Trying to find better uses for her wings since at best she can only glide. 'Wait a minute, otters aren't supposed to climb trees!'

User Image
At least she can move more stuff now.

I wish I could wright like that. *Sigh*

Anyway, I saw that you didn't have a height for her but you had her weight. I thought it was funny.

Also thank you for your help on mine.

I knew i was forgetting something! Thanks for the pointer. You wish you could write like me? I didn't think i was all that great, but maybe that's because i've been saying that i can't write for sugar muffins for the past few years whilist RPing like crazy to gain some experience in writing and just haven't seemed to notice xd .
But i got a couple of helpful pointers for you, go over other people's posts that you think are exceptionally written and read them until you can't stand it anymore to see if you can pick up any word trends or differences between two or more people's writings. Also (i got this tip back in seventh grade lol) you can almost never have too many adjectives. For example.

Chay ran down the shoreline trying to catch up to her rat.
If you add some adjectives....
Chay ran quickly down the serene shoreline desprately trying to catch up to her rat.

I hope that helps you a bit 3nodding

The more i add and change around the harder it is for me to see what i need to change myself. I wouldn't mind critiquing other people if they helped with mine(as if i'm not critiquing them already). blaugh

And OMG four more people added to the Island! Something tells me its gonna get a little hecktic with the decreasing open slots. dun Dun DUUUUUN! Geez i need to sleep, i've spent too much time fiddling with my profile. Darn my obsessive compulsive tendencies! sweatdrop
PostPosted: Thu Mar 01, 2007 4:04 pm

A lot of it has been re-edited to weed out the over complexities i've been running into. It should be easier to read without feeling like your getting brain tied. Still tweaking but i'm feeling much more confident about its structure!
Edited:
-History
-Why a giant river Otter?
-Wouldn't it be hard to make her "dissappear"? You know with the helping taking care of her sister and all?
-Why would she be on the island?
-What makes you think your worthy of being on the island of Dr. Moreau?

Added her job resume!
Added more art!
