Little pink pads worked over the ground of the oasis quickly as the white cub ran. Her pastel eyes shown with a burning joy that didn't often appear in them. Well it did... she was quite sweet after all, but Chau rarely had ever seen something like this before.
In her little white jaws was a butterfly, it's wings torn and it was obviously dead, but it was incredible all the same and stood out from her snowy fur like black on white. But that wasn't why she wanted to show it to her mother, it was because she'd caught it period.
Right outta the sky!
Even Hang hadn't helped her by pointing it out, nope, Chau did it all on her own. No one to help her, yepyep. Just her.
The thought made her puff out her chest even more as she ran. Sure she was a little deaf cub but she could catch butterflies and they were fast. So maybe there was hope that even she, the little pink screw up girl, could be as good as her sisters were with all their flare and gruff. Sure she was always the little passive one, but if there was a chance, a hope, a glimpse of what she could do, then maybe she could get some of her mothers praise too?
Sure she wouldn't be able to hear it, but being able to read it come from her mother's muzzle, the very idea made her boil with happiness and try to run faster. ninja

Malika was curled up in the furs of the room that her lord had allowed her to reside in. It had been atleast three weeks since she had seen the salmon tinted male, and it was stressing her out slightly, however when she was around her children she did her best to hide it.
Luckily at this point in time the pale lioness was on her own enjoying the comforting silence that covered the room as her daughters were playing, furrowing her brow she thought of the short time that she had been alone. Occasionally she would go hunting and spot fleeting glances of other but they were so brief that she could never say anything to them.
The most disappointing thing that had happened since she gave birth was that their father was not around to see them and her red daughter was rarely seen. Then she heard footsteps[pawsteps if you will]. Lifting her head she cocked toward the enterance wondering who was approaching.

Bounding like a spring-loaded creature into the den, Chau glanced around for her mother and found her tangled in the furs at the back of the den like usual. It wasn't like it was her mother's fault for being so attached to them, they DID smell like her father Chau had found. Or at least what the little white and pink lioness assumed was her father.
The fur itself was what made Chau like it. She liked the feel of it, even had tied a band around the base of her neck of soft puffy fur from one of the pelts back there. It was some strange creature or another she didn't exactly know.
"Momma momma!" Chau cried out as she bound up to her and placed the tiny butterfly at her mother's paws. "Look what I caught! I caught it all by myself too!" Her pastel eyes dazzled brightly as she bounced up and down, waiting to see if her mother would say anything to her about it. She hoped she got some praise for it, she felt like she deserved it, she really did.
The very thought of getting some of the praise given to her sisters made Chau's tiny body quiver with excitement. ninja

Malika moved closer to her youngest daughter tas she examined the butterfly more closely. The enthusiasim of Chau couldn't help but make her smile. "It's wonderful Chau, I am extremely proud of you." Her white paws moved toward her pink daughter and pulled her close. Malika made sure that the other could see her maw when she spoke.
"I'm glad to see that even though your father is not around, you are still full of spunk. I cannot wait till you see him." Unfortunately they would never meet him, the king was on the verge of death, unknownst to everyone.

Her heart swelled instantly as her mother gave her the praise she'd been wanting for so long. Burying her face into her mother's large leg, Chau purred as loudly as she possibly could to show her thanks for it. Flicking her eyes back up to her mother as she felt reverberations in the space of the air, Chau smiled up to her mother and nodded her head.
"Thanks! I caught it all on my own too! Hang didn't help me at all." She purred from pride and swished her tail about happily, proving how happy she was, how proud she really was. "We'll get to see daddy then?"
The thought filled her with a strange feeling, one she'd never felt before, one she couldn't discribe to save her. Would it change if she met her father? ninja

Malika couldn't help but smile at the pride that her youngest daughter carried at her achivement. Nothing was said until the meantion of meeting her father. "I hope that you will meet him soon my dear....I do not know when he will return, but when he does, he will be so proud of you."
The lioness could not wait until Nyek saw their cubs, how strong and beautiful they were. Malika's heart swelled with pride thinking about her amazing daughters.

Bundling up closer to her mother and peering up at her with big eyes so that she could read her mother's lips for what she said, Chau smiled. She really did hope that her father praised her like her mother did, hoped that he would like her better than all her siblings because she could catch butterflies and that meant that she'd be able to catch other flying things too, while her siblings couldn't. That made her special!
"Do you think daddy'll like me?" Chau asked after a moment, her voice sounding smaller than normal, even for a cub. I was one of the things she feared, that her father wouldn't like her, that her father would choose one of his other daughters instead of her.

She couldn't help but chuckle when Chau expressed her concern. Malika nodded licking the top of her daughter's head. "He'll love you just like I do." She stated as honestly as she thought. Of course she still didn't know that he would never see her beautiful daughters. Never.
She nuzzled Chau lightly before speaking. "There's no way he couldn't."

Resting her tiny paws atop her mothers, Chau beamed up at her and felt her whole little body wiggle, from the tips of her pink paws to the end of her snowy tail. Mommy had said that Daddy would love her just like her, that meant that she really would be special above all her sisters.
"D'you think Daddy would want me to catch him a butterfly?!" The words exploaded from her muzzle, her jade colored eyes dazzling hyperly.
"Oh yes, those lovely things that taste so awful." Hang said behind her from her place resting on the rocks at the entrance of the den.
The large translucent female was one that only Chau could see and hear, the only thing in the world that she could hear. Naturally Chau couldn't tell the difference between her and normal lionesses, so she simply turned her head and told what her mother would see as an empty entrance to 'shut it, she'd do what she liked'.

Malika nodded with a pleasant smile upon her maw. "Yes, I believe he will." She then nuzzled her daughter again. "It'll show him that you'll be a great huntress later on."
Then Chau yelled at the entrance bring a quizzical expression to her face. "Honey, who are you talking to?"

Wiggling her tiny body, Chau smiled up at her mother's question the way any tiny cub would. "I'm talking to Hang." She responded happily, her little tail swishing brightly. "She's making mean comments again at the front of the cave."
Chau had yet to explain about Hang to her mother or any of her sisters, of course in her mind she clearly thought that they saw and heard and could touch Hang just as she could.

Confusion was written clearly upon the white lioness's features. "Hang? Who's Hang?" She asked glancing from the entrance to her white and pink daughter. Still she saw nothing and tilted her head, wondering if Chau was simply playing a game.
"I don't see anyone Chau..." She told the other softly unsure of what exactly to do. If she was playing a game or Hang was her imaginary friend was she to leave it alone and play along or was she to stop the strange behavior? Having never been a mother before she had no clue at all.

"Hang's..... Hang." Chau explained haltingly. She was sort of afraid to go into anymore detail than that as her mother claimed she couldn't see her. Hang was RIGHT in front of her... so it was confusing. Why couldn't her mother see her? Was it because Hang was hiding herself from her mother's eyes? Or was it something else?
"She's always been there?"
Fear flashed through the cub's body now. She knew that her mother could see very well, she brought them dinner every night. So what if Hang was just..... not really there at all? The thought never occurred to her before... because obviously to her Hang was there.
"You can't see her though? Why can't you see her momma? She's right there." Using one of her pink dipped paws, the tiny cub pointed at the large white and pink lioness that was lounging in the sunlight at the entrance to the den, only to receive a laugh from Hang herself.

When Malika saw her daughter's fear she reached her decision. She would play along for now, perhaps later she could convince Chau that Hang was not real but for now she would go along with it. It wouldn't hurt....right?
"Oh..." The lioness started unsure of how exactly to continue. "I see her now, I must not have been looking in the right place." She told her daughter nudging her gently. "Hello Hang....." She said softly uncertainty hidden in her voice.
She looked towards the entrance when she spoke to 'Hang' and then glanced back at the other. "Why don't you go find Tama and go play with her?"

"Y-you can see her?" Happiiness swelled up through her body when her mother said that she could see her. That meant that Chau wasn't commpletely insane.
"As if you can see me Malika." Hang sneered and settled her paws out in front of her, pink-striped spine stretching out slowly.
"Yes momma." Chau responded simply, as if she hadn't heard Hang at all where she lay. Instead she rose up from where she was cuddled against her mother and pawed at her tail some. "will you tell me when Daddy comes momma? I wanna show him what I can do." Her pink chest puffed up a little bit as she spoke.
