Zumaradi had been quite irritated with Tlaloc for a while after her pregnancy, but soon regained her royal composure, as usual. Today she was in a particularly good mood, and felt that it would be best to have some family time with her King and her Princess, both of whom she loved with all her heart.

"Tlaloc, have you seen our daughter?" She asked, looking around, puzzled. She could have sworn that she had been there just a little bit ago...

"Well my dear, I can't say that I have. I thought she was with you." He said, also looking around. He really was just glad that Zumaradi had forgiven him, though it's not like she didn't agree to have calves. He wasn't about to tell her that though, not when she was in a good mood like this. He didn't want to spoil it.

Uttara quickly made her way back home. She had gone off upon her parents...absence of paying attention, and had swam pretty far from home, exploring a bit. She smiled lightly thinking about everything she had seen! It had been amazing. She had met this wierd...mis match group of mostly guys. One was her age and the others all adults. They had shown her their little area of the water and let her stay with them for a while...Tho...now that she thought about it she didn't think her parents would be to happy...Spotting them she slowed down and made her way, a bit causiously, towards them both.

"I hope she hasn't gone too far..." Zuma said worriedly, sighing. She loved her daughter, but she didn't seem to understand that royal whales weren't supposed to just mingle with the common ones all willy-nilly. They had to show authority! She only hoped that they could get that into her head before she was off on her own.

"As do I, dear." Tlaloc responded. As he spoke, he saw a bit of movement, and recognized it as Uttara, "There you are!" He called to her, quickly swimming to her side, "Where have you been? Your mother and I have been worried sick about you!"

Uttara froze when she was spotted. At her fathers words she looked down, sighing a little. "I know, i'm sorry...I just...i went out for a little bit and...got a little lost...and met some others that helped me until i found somthing farmillar." she half lied. She had gone to far, she did meet others, but she didn't get lost nor did she need their help getting back. "I'm sorry, i'll pay attention more next time..." she said lightly. She glanced back up at them to see if they belived her or not. She sighed, not getting why it was so bad to talk with "common" whales. Its not like they were infected or anything...

"Uttara!" Zuma cried, dashing to her daughters other side just as quickly as Tlaloc had. She listened to her story, but though she believed it, didn't find it satisfying. "Others? You mean to say that you were mingling with the peasants again?" She asked, knowing the answer was yes. Unless there were other kingdoms out there, which she doubted, she couldn't have met any other royal whales. And even so, those waters would have to be terribly far away.

"Common whales again?" Tlaloc sighed, "Dear, how many times must we tell you, they are not worthy to be talked with as if our equals." He shook his head, "You must not go near them until you have learned how to handle yourself around them. Even royalty must learn how to act properly."

"Oh but you don't know them! they...they were so nice and they didn't act all weird around me...i was just plain and ordinary..." she sighed, knowing this wouldn't sit well with them. "And i liked it..." she finished. She looked at them again, backing up a little. "Whats so bad about common whales anyway? what happens...what happens if one day i grow up and fall in love with one? what will you do then? hate me?" That was a little far and she knew it.

"You think we do not know our own subjects? No, commoners aren't bad, but they are not whales you want to be around until your behavior as a royal has been established. You don't want to become like them, their lives are terribly difficult." Zuma explained, leaving Tlaloc to deal with her other question.

"Hate you? We could never hate you dear, but we would never encourage such a decision." He said sadly, hoping that this question didn't imply that she had already fallen in love with one. "But you couldn't be together, our worlds are too different."

She sighed. She didn't dare speak of the little crush her meeting had yeilded. Of course she knew it wasn't love, after all they were both young, but she wouldn't want to have her parents upset with her in the least, or have them disapointed in her. She was already, she felt, a disapointment. SHe looked downward. "I'm sorry...i won't run off or go find them again..." she said. "I know how much of a disapointment i am, may i please be excused?" she asked, glancing up at them both. She resisited the urge to asked them what if she didn't wanna be a princess, or what if she never got a "royal" behavior. what if she stayed plain...common. And she wanted to argue that her life was more difficult then theirs seemed.

"I certainly hope not." Zuma said sternly, though not unkindly, "You'll understand one day why we are so different. Once you truly do, it won't be such a risk letting you around them." She said comfortingly, "You aren't a disappointment, these things take time to learn and even longer to understand. You may be excused." She nodded, glad that even though she had disobeyed, she still treated her parents with respect.

"Before you go, Uttara, I want you to know that no matter what, we always love you." Tlaloc said gently, nudging her gently with his fin. "Just be careful, we do what we do because we think it is best. We wouldn't do anything without a good reason." He smiled and whispered to her, "You are the most perfect princess we could ever ask for."

Uttara nodded to her mother before she smiled lightly at her father. "May i speak with you alone, father?" she whispered back before she slowly began to swim off, looking back with a slight pleading look in her eyes. If she had to pick a parents, tho she loved them both, her father made her smile more, while her mother was more strict. Not that she really thought anything bad about it, she still got away with a fair deal of things...

Zuma gave a dismissive wave of her flipper and swam off, there was a school of fish nearby and she was hungry. No point in letting them get away, right?

"Of course, dear." Tlaloc said gently, slowly swimming beside her. There was something troubling her, he thought, and he liked it when she trusted him enough to talk about it. Not that he liked it when she had troubles, but when she was willing to open up to him, that just made his day. When you have everything you could ever want, the simple things bring you the greatest pleasure.

She watched her mother leave before she stopped and faced her father. "I don't understand." she said simply. It was a quiet and simple sentence and convayed little. "I don't understand why...its so bad...if i like to talk with common whales and i like how they think and how they live...they are really nice, father, and they are welcoming and kind and...and they make me feel like i have a meaning...like i'm not just some spoiled princess..." she sighed and looked down. "I mean....Father...what if i don't wanna BE a princess...?" she chanced a glance up at him.

Oh no, not this again! "Dear, there is nothing wrong with common whales, but you do not understand yet how you must behave around them. They can be dangerous if you are not careful, some will attack you without reason. Just because you met a few who were nice to you doesn't mean they all are."

Doesn't want to be a princess? That isn't good.... "Well, you can't decide not to be a princess, it's who you are." He said simply, "However, if your mother and I had another calf, you could chose not to be our heir. You would still be a princess, but I suppose we could let you have more freedom." He honestly didn't want to try to have more calves, Zuma had gotten so irritable with him the last time, but for his daughter, perhaps he would give it a try. He didn't want her to be miserable with her position.

She turned away. "But i'm a failer as a princess. I'm restless, i hate not being able to just go out like they do...and how am i suppose to act around them? like a snob?" she asked, a little annoyed. She had made friends, and sure, she never told them she was a princess....but for that short time she was normal...and she was happy. "They don't have a bunch of rules...they can do what they want...oh and father i met one...he is my age and so sweet...if you could only meet him..." she sighed. "There isn't anything diffrent from them and us besides rules."

"You aren't a failure." He said firmly, "It takes time to learn these things, you'll get used to it." He sighed, why was it so difficult to understand? "A snob? No, but you need to learn to keep your composure, to avoid being pressed into living the way they do."

Oh no, she had fallen in love with a common whale! Or at least, she had a crush, which could be just as bad! But he had to remain calm, practice what you preach... "Well then, how about you bring him to meet me? If he is as nice as you say... Perhaps you could see him once in a while. Who knows, perhaps he could become a duke, a minor royal, if I like him enough." He offered, planning already to turn him down. He wasn't about to tell her that though...
