Kimya slunk through the tall grass, excercising his past lessons in stealth. He was supposed to be guarding the family with his father and Angusho, but they wouldn't have let him help them anyway. They thought he was still the small cub and not yet ready to take on such a task. It grated on his nerves. Why wouldn't he be able to do something as simple as that?
They had taught him all he knew, shouldn't they have confidence in both their teaching and their student? Of course not, he wasn't mature in their eyes. It annoyed him, he wanted to be given the credit he was due. He was going to be a warrior when they returned to the pride anyway! Couldn't his parents see he was fully capable of doing the same as they? His lips peeled back to show his annoyance, his dark red eyes glittering in the sun. Maybe today he'd show them he was no cub.

Laini lounged on a tail rock. She should be shielding herself from the sun but one side baking, the other cooled by the rock was a nice contrast she enjoyed. When she got too hot, she rolled to her other side and repeated the process. She had only done it once so far, though, so she wasn't tired of it yet. She batted her eyes lazily as she stared at the sky. Another lethargic day it had been so far. I should probably do something. With a flip of her tail, she rose to her feet and stretched, letting out a small unfeminine groan.
Has that part of the grass always been blue? she asked herself spotting the odd discoloration of the grass from her high perch and moved to inspect it.

Kimya was preoccupied with his inspection of the area, to notice the female lazing about on the high rock. He hadn't looked up high enough to see her as he was used to his foes being closer to the ground. In the distance, a herd of herbivores-simply known as "prey" to him and his siblings-busily ate their fill of the fauna.
His tail twitched against the ground and he straightened a bit to move forward. It was difficult enough to hide with his blue fur, a feature shared with his father, and as such, he had been taught ways to deal with it, like hunt at night. Not that Kimya did much hunting in the first place, his siblings and other msaka were in charge of that. His ears twitched with the sounds of the savannah and finally he caught a scent and sounds that were strange to him, causing his to lift his head above the grass cautiously, just in case.

Laini picked her way silently through the grass, shoulders hunched and head low, enjoying this exercise that forced her to wake up properly. Her grey eyes swept across the scenery before her constantly so as to catch sight of the thing as soon as it came into sight. It couldn't be a creature of prey. They always traveled in groups ...well, except for hares who occasionally wandered on their own. But she hasn't interested in any hares and hoped she wouldn't find one.
She wrinkled her nose. She was beginning to smell something that wasn't grass and dirt. The smell was of a familiar creature but she simplet couldn't place it. Tail twitching, she slowed her pace. Then, she saw it. Almost with a twinge of disappointment, robbed of the excitement of the hunt, she realized it was a lion, an adolescent to be precise. She huffed and decided to approach nonetheless.

Kimya halted his inspection as he caught sight of a figure, a female figure if he was any judge coming toward him. She moved cautiously at first, as if gauging the threat, then clearly relaxed a margin and moved forward. Normally, Kimya wouldn't have noticed her immediately but this particular female, was green.
He rose to his full height (only average) and waited for her to continue forward, his own posture own of cautious welcome. He wasn't going to attack her, but that didn't mean he trusted her. He hadn't met many lions outside of his family (this female was clearly a lion). He had once met a cheetah, but of course, that meeting had been brief. Perhaps this one would be longer? He would rather speak with a stranger, then a family member as of late.

She was fully aware now that he noticed her in return. Laini couldn't decide if she should pick up the pace or continue at her pace, as if he mattered little? Well she really didn't care so with a mental shrug, continued at her pace. Things could be interesting ...or they could be dangerous but she didn't feel the need to worry. She could take him on anyday, or so she told herself. Laini refused to believe anyone could oust her. If she belonged to a pride, she would have probably declared herself alpha. She couldn't even stand to take orders. Not even her mother had ordered her around when she was little.
She sat casually before him and ran a quick sweep with her eyes, inspecting him. "What's a lion like yourself doing all the way out here?" she asked trying not to come off as threatening. Not many people chose these parts to wander. The herds were a while off from her chosen location for the day, downwind and easy to track, but not necessarily close nonetheless.

Kimya raised a brow at he nonchalance, certainly she knew that he, while only being an adolescent, could hold his own in a confrontation. Still, he nodded politely as he had been taught and allowed her the same measure of trust, seating himself. Always the dutiful (if sometimes stubborn) son, he had gone through etiquette lessons as well as guarding. His mother had insisted and at least it had occupied the hours, making it less boring because at least he and his sisters were required to do it.
His red eyes slipped back to the real world as the female spoke, "My family and I are traveling back to our home." He replied casually, watching her for any signs of anything amiss. He would not be caught off guard; especially today.

Family. She was learning to hate that word. Recently, she had discovered a family member but she didn't even know if she could stand to be near the guy. And despite all that, she had to admit that it was a hot commidity. She closed her eyes almost as if to stop thinking about her lack of it.
"Home? Oh you must live in a pride," she replied. "How interesting. Of course, if you ask me, it's always better out here: no rules to worry about. You eat when you want, sleep where you want, that sort of thing." Had she meant to be this civil to him? She was loosing her edge. Laini wrinkled her nose at the thought. "I'm Laini'ukungu by the way, Laini for short."

Kimya shook his head, watching her from under his red mane. "Not really," He replied airily, "Just my family." He paused and tilted his head to the side, listening to her persuasive bit on living as a rogue. "I'm sure it must be a nice life for some," He told her genially, "But not for me." He shrugged and stood, padding away a few feet, the day was too hot for two lions to remain close for long.
After examining a patch of grass, (while simultaniously watching her) he raised his head and nodded once. "You have a good name." He replied casually, "I'm Kimya'asikari, Kimya for short." He shrugged again before looking back where his family rested. Should he return? But what if he led Laini there?

Laini listened intently which slowly slipped into boredom. His speech, intentional or not, was slowly shutting her out of conversation. It was only natural that it should have some sort of reflection on her mood. "mmhmmm," she responded only half there. But Laini's determined nature kicked in ...or dug its heels, should we say, and pryed the conversational door back open. "well, home is a home is a home. At least you know where yours is. Some don't ever." Laini was like that. She didn't know where she belonged. What a wonderful faker she was. Then again, there was little to believe that it wasn't her home. She had been here as long as she could remember.
He wasn't very talkative. Two very untalkative people never got anywhere. She'd have to step a bit out of her norm. "Family too much for you? Oh don't get me wrong. I don't mean 'leave them and come with me'. More like, is your family grating on your nerves?" She hated explaining herself and became a little frustrated doing so.

Kimya sensed unconcsiously that something was off with the gren female. "...You're bored, aren't you?" He asked, raised an eyebrow, lips twitching upward. It wasn't like he cared much over the subject. He wasn't the type to care what someone else thought unless they were close to him. He paused with what he was going to saying next, listening to her comment about homes. "Ha, I've never been to this "home"." He informed her.
His dark ears twitched, "Sometimes." He admited absently, crushing a bit of tall grass with a paw, though it didn't relieve the boredom, "But they're family, so I have to be with them. Hopefully they'll treat me like an adult soon anyway."

"Well, I guess you could say bored.... not much happens out here away from the prides. It's the basic 'circle of life': wake up, eat, sleep, repeat. Well, more complex if you go outside the everyday life of a lion, but you get the idea." He really was slightly confusing. Another thing was that he didn't seem interested in ...well... anything. "How do you even know that it's home if you've never been there?" Laini stopped and thought about her question. She did in fact want to know but it wasn't the nicest thing to ask. "Ah, nevermind," she said quickly.
"Well in relation to them treating you like an adult, I would assume that you'd have to act like one. And not just one time - mind you - but probably repeatedly for them to get the message ...of course, I could be wrong. My issues were much different growing up." If Laini had bothered to think harder, she would have been able to tell him that she wasn't the best role model for what an adult should be. Sure her childhood had forced her to grow up fast but she hadn't learned anything beyond survival. Yet, she did think hard enough to come up with something. "If you want, we could go out and kill something which you could bring back to your family. I'm sure they'd respect you for that." Helping wasn't second nature to Laini but when the situation provided itself, she had the habit of offering help without a second thought.

Kimya shrugged, looking up at her, "It's not really my home," He explained solemnly, "It's the home of my parents and the other adults traveling with us. We're going "home" because the only reason my parents left in the first place was to come back." He shrugged, "But I might as well see what it looks like before I decide to do anything." He paused and laughed, "Right, explaining too much, aren't I?" He shook his head, straightening.
Shaking his head, he dismissed the idea, "Ha, I already do. I act as much like one as I can and they still think of me as a child. It has something to do with the fact they've raised me since I was born and they can't let go of that image."
He looked at her, eyebrows raised, "You mean go out and kill something to bring back and show them?" He shook his head, smiling faintly, "Wouldn't work. The culture I was raised in dictates that only lioness's hunt, lion's protect." He shrugged, "It's an interesting society if you look at it from the outside." Why was this female trying to help him, he wondered, what would she gain from doing something like this anyway?

She nodded as he talked, taking it all in. There wasn't much she could really say in response quite honestly. She had some issues with it, sure. Like why don't the men hunt? Do they think they're too good for hunting? But not like she was going to bring it up. There were certain reasons why she wasn't in a pride herself, much like that one. And if hunting was beneath the men and their job was something as simple and lazy as guarding, she wasn't surprised they couldn't see him as an adult. There didn't seem to be an open window for him to prove himself. That, and he seemed to be a pretty dull, uninteresting character. She really needed to come to the realization that she wasn't going to get any entertainment from him. Also, she had used up all the pleasantries she knew. Now she was at a loss about what to do next. Laini sighed a bit and looked down at her paw briefly.

Kimya smiled faintly, not knowing exactly what she was thinking, but he had a good guess, "I told you didn't I?" He said, lifting his head, "I'm a terribly boring creature." He shrugged shoulders, "It happens sometimes." He sat down, turning to her, "I don't suppose you have a suggestion to make this situation better?" He chuckled softly, "Nah, I shouldn't impose on you." He shrugged again, stretching some cramped muscles, "If you like, we can seperate ways," He offered, waving a paw a bit, "I'm sure I should be getting back to the family."
