(done while Sedi and Sila are foals)
His sister had gotten a talkin to from Dah and so he'd gotten to go off and play by himself. That meant it was allowed to run around further away from where the family was stayin. He was getting bigger now so he could take care of himself. Big brothers didn't need to be looked out for all the time.

Not like his sister who always wanted to talk to people that would get her in trouble. She was just asking for their dah and mah to be mad at her. Shaking his head he trotted off across the dirt toward where he remembered part of the river was.

Dah had said he was allowed to run around by the river as long as the trees were always in sight. So since he could still see them and could just see the water he had to be alright. If he snuck just a little further there'd be no harm.

Exciting, oh so exciting! Saiena couldn't recall the last time she'd been this pleased with things, and why not? After months (actually more like a week, but who's counting?) Papa had finally, finally agreed that she was old enough to go off and play on her own. Not that it was PERFECT; she had to stay near the river but couldn't go in it, had to be back when the sun was going down, and wasn't allowed to talk to any strange stallions. And if she saw any, she was supposed to run real fast away, and if she got caught she was supposed to scream REALLY loudly...

She wasn't really sure why. Probably just Papa bein' a worrier, which he did a LOT. But she'd been told that papas were supposed to worry, so that was ok. She could be worried about, as long as she got to have her fun!

And right now, she was living it up; hooves flying like a fire of super-fastness, she raced along the riverbank, kicking up the occassional tussock of grass. Yeah, she was fast alright! And since she didn't have to stay near Papa, she could run as FAST as she wanted!

As he got closer to the river he noticed something out of place. There was someone running around in HIS place. Scrunching his nose he picked up his pace and headed faster toward the river.

If it was another one like him he'd make sure the other boy knew that this was Sedi's river and that he got first choice of running room. Though if it was a girl he'd have to be nice and let her run too cause dah said he had to always be nice to girls.

"Hay!" He reached the edge of the river and stopped infront or the other foal. He should be able to get out of the way if they couldn't stop in time so this was the best way to get her attention.

Running as fast as she was, Saiena wasn't exaclty able to stop on a dime. So when she realized another foal moved into her path, the filly's eyes flared and she immeadaitely swerved to the side in an attempt to avoid a collision. On the one hand the attempt was successful; she didn't crash. But instead, she caught one of her own hooves against another, tripping and tumbling heels over head in the process.

For a moment, she lay flopped on the ground, feeling dizzy and confused and just a little bit sore; but it was never good to dwell, as Papa said, so as soon as she decided she wasn't broken she looked up, giving the other foal a reproachful look. "You need to look where you step!"

And he really did! It was dangerous to get in someone's way when they were running! "I coulda crashed RIGHT into you, and that woulda HURT!"

"Ya wouldn't ah hit me. I can move fastar den dat." He scrunched his nose and looked down at her. He'd moved anyway just to make sure she wouldn't hit him.

"Sorry though .... didn't mean for ya ta fall ova." Whoever this was should learn how to stop better so that didn't happen again. It wasn't fun to trip over stuff. Wait. His dah had said he had to be nice so that meant he head to introdouce himself too.

"I'm 'Sedi .... whoareya?"

"Even SO, you need to be CAREFUL." This as delivered with all the solemnity of a grand pronouncement, and why not? The other foal didn't seem to know any better than to get in the way of a runner; he must not have been taught any better. She knew that not all parents taught their foals the right stuff, after all, so it might not be his fault.

She could be forgiving, after all. Shaking her head a bit, Saiena pulled herself up to her feet, making a face at the colt. "And I tripped on ME, not you. You don' have to 'pologize if you didn' DO anything." That was just silly. What if you actually got in TROUBLE for something someone else caused???

He didn't seem very smart, no he didn't. Shaking her head again, she gave him a tsk, but then a grin. "I'm Saiena, 'Sedi, but you c'n call me Sai, if you want. Papa says its my nicked name." Whatever that was. She was proud to have one, regardless! "An' why'd you jump in my way, anyway?"

"Ah was bein careful." He huffed. "Ah knew what ah was doin even if ya didn't know what ah was doin" How could she think that he didn't know what he was doing. He was Sedi and he always knew what he was doing and where he was going.

"If ah hadn' walked in front of ya then ya wouldn have fallen ovah so it's my fault. Dah says that i gotta be nice ta everyone so i said sorrah." He shook his head and grinned at her.

"I got in yer way ta get yer attention." It seemed like the easiest way to do that and it had worked mostly.

Silly, that's what it was. That was like saying that if someone fell off a cliff 'cause they were looking at you, it was your fault! "Sounds like you're too 'sponsible, Sedi. And sorry's not s'posed to be nice, it's s'posed to be RIGHT." Another solemn nod; hopefully her life lessons were sinking in on him, otherwise he might just spend his whole life being punished for things he didn't do!

Those his logic WAS amusing, and she couldn't help but giggle at it. "You could have just SAID something. I'm not deaf, I can hear. And THEN I pro'bly coulda stopped without fallin'!" Which would have been the best way, really. 'Cause now she had a bruise.

He frowned at her. "Ya gotta stop thinkin that yer right all tha time" It sounded like his sister. Maybe Dah was right and all girls though they were always right. Mah wasn't like that though. She at least listened to Sedi when he said things.

"Ah was taught that ya gotta say sorry when yer at fault fer hurtin someone. Not sorry not though cause yer being mean 'bout it." She could just go thinking that it was her fault and he could be not sorry and then Dah couldn't say anything because he'd tried.

Well, that was rude; and the proper response to rudeness was, naturally, more rudeness. Consequently, Saiena stuck her tongue out at the rude little colt, making a horrible face as well. "Well, YOU'RE doin' it too, or doesn' that count? And I am NOT mean, you're just...just...a stupid-head!"

There. THAT would teach him to not be so mean. Or stupid. She was only tryin' to help, he didn't have to be grumpy about it. Why was he bein' grumpy, anyway? That was so DUMB!

He started slightly when she stuck her tongue out at him. He hadn't done anything to warrant that. "Dah was right. All ya girls are weird." He shook his head sightly and managed to stop himself from sticking his tongue out at her.

Nope he'd be better than that and prove that he was the good one. He'd just been being friendly and she had to get all snooty about it.

"Well, all you boys are-"

However, Saiena broke off in mid-retort, a frown crossing her face as she was suddenly struck by a realization. He was a BOY, not a girl; boys were stallions, right? So that meant that he was...a strange stallion!

She was both stunned and amazed, and that showed in her hugely rounded eyes and shocked expression. She had broken the rules. She was talking to a strange stallion! And she hadn't run away, now she was going to get in trouble and never be allowed to go off on her own and play, ever again. Even when she was a grown-up mare, she'd have to stay by her Papa, since she'd broken the rules.

The tragedy of the situation crashed over the filly like a wave, and she responded to it the only way she could: by bursting into hot, noisy tears. "WAAAAAH"

When she burst into tears he stumbled backwards slightly. What was that for? Even his sister didn't do that like that. Well she'd gone off and huffed and cried once but she hadn't made that much noise.

"Hay .. wait ... was wrong? Ya didn't hurt yerself did ya? I know ah didn't say nothin that bad." If his dah caught him like this he'd be in lots of trouble and he didn't want to get in trouble.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 25, 2007 5:17 pm

Huge tears ran down Saiena's cheeks, and she flopped down hard onto the grass in the ultimate picture of dejection. In answer to his question, she could only manage a few sobbing syllables.

"Ts...nah...AIR!!!!" Translation: it's not fair.

And it wasn't! Her first day of getting to do what she wanted and he had to RUIN it by showing up and getting in her way and talking to her and making her ignore EVERYTHING that she'd been told about strange stallions and now she was going to lose her privileges...

"NAH....AIR!" And with that, she burrowed her head into her leg and wept harder. Stupid strange stallions!

He was at a complete loss as to what to do. His dah hadn't taught him what to do when girls started crying like that. He'd been told to leave his sister alone but that was because she was his sister and they always argued. This wasn't his sister and he couldn't just leave her here crying like this.

"Wha? Didn't make no sense ya know ... gotta stop cryin if yer gonna try'n talk"
