Richard was not making progress on the newsletter at all lately, he kept finding other things to do. Things such as prepare Colche's lessons or as was the case this afternoon, take a nap under a tree in the village. So he sat, head rolled back against the trunk of the tree, mouth open slightly and snoring. In his lap was a open notebook, its page titled, "Jamal's begins murderous campaign!" The rest of the page was completely blank, Richard's pen had rolled into the grass.
It was a pretty day out and Maryke just couldn't let that go to waste. Generally one thing or the other agitated her about the weather, too hot, not hot enough, too sunny, not sunny enough. Some little nitpick she had to convince herself to stay away from the trees. But like always she was drawn to them. She knew what was happening, the thing she'd feared all along. She was loosing her humanity, every aspect of her was becoming the creature. God, it was horrible, but what the hell could she do about it? Nothing, that's what. So today, since she had no real excuse, she decided to go with what her instincts was telling her and was off to find some tree to climb when she spotted a familar form laying on a tree. Seeing an open notebook, and being as curious as she was, she crept forward, taking it upon herself to look at the front page. And as soon as she saw that front headline, she panicked.
Richard snorted as something tickled his whiskers, his eyes fluttered open to see Maryke's muzzled face fairly close to his own. "yarr'lg," Was the strange sound that came from his throat, a call of surprise.
Considering she was already in a state of fear with just the heading alone, and the animal was in her was usually very alert at the strange call the lemur woman quickly leapt back, surprising herself with the height she got on the jump. Once her feet hit the ground however she let out a few sharp breaths attempting to call herself, still resting her hazel eyes on his form just in case she needed to make a run for it.
Slowly, Richard's sleepy brain began to pull together the situation he found himself in. First he was now awake, which ment he had probably drifted off, again. Second there was a rather fuzzy... woman, yes definitely a woman staring at him. He returned the stare at first and then allowed his eyes to wander over the rest of her body. It was familar some how, but he could place the face. Finally after long moment of silence it clicked, "Maryke?" She had changed and was now looking quite monkey like, although quite a bit of that impression could be attributed to her nervous posture.
The long silky black tail that was usually free flowing near her head had now turned itself into a quasi question mark, but as soon as that 'on edge' feeling began to dissipate she slowly let it sway back and forth once more. Maryke suddenly felt uncomfortable in her own skin. She could see by his eyes he had taken in her new muzzle, and it was the one attribute she hated the most. She'd rip it off if she could, but in the grand scheme of things, well she was what she was now. Sighing she let a smile grace her maw, or as best as one with a snout could get at a smile, and she nodded, "yup, me. Hey Richard," she said stepping up, "How goes it?"
Richard rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and yawned before replying. "Well I'd complain, but I really doubt it will do much good at this point." He was less than week from his next change if it kept on the timeline that Tommy had indicated. The fear of that impending event filled him with constant anexity now. Sleep had eased the tension some but already it was creeping back, his tentacles snaking back up to pose over his shoulders. He forced a smile onto feline lips but it was thin. "Was just trying to work on the next newsletter. Keep busy and all."
Markye nodded as she listened. There wasn't exactly much in the way of hope in this godforsake island. People did what they could do to make it better, find some solace in this hell they called a home. She'd taken it from Billy, but now that Alexa was in the picture that was wearing thin. So she could definitaly feel what most here felt. "Yeah, I uh, sneaked a peak," she nodded, finally walking over completely to him, though didn't both to take a seat just yet. "I also heard you got Billy pretty good," she added in a light laugh, unable to not bring that up.

"Heh, yes Jamal's been quite busy. Murdering two guards and then crashing a Jeep into Ambrose's duplex." Richard snarled at his paper. Why was it so hard to just write that down? It was all in his journals, after all, this should be a simple task.
At the mention of Billy, Richard's left arm crept up to cover his chest, it ached now that he had been reminded of the wound. He managed to keep his face straight, but some color drained from his cheeks. He coughed into the back of his hand. "Yes, well, he deserved what he got.

A very visible flinch shivered across the blackened face and maw at Richard's words. It looked like Jamal was having himself a grand ole time. That might be a good thing, it meant that he was too distracted to worry about her lemur a**. That meant she could at least worry less now, though she of course would still worry.
She ticked her eyes up, having now gone into a small squat in front of the older man. A small 'hmmph'ing noise escaped her snout at the words. Got what he deserved? "Well I can't imagine what he actually DID to deserve to have his tentacle ripped off, but yeah..." the maw turned into a small smirk, "ain't one to judge."

Richard closed the notebook with a snap and sighed. "Newsletter isn't getting done at this rate. I don't have enough time." He tucked the notebook under his legs and leaned back against the tree. It was a perfect fit between his tentacles and was really enjoying being able to lean on something like that. Its strange what you miss.
He found the little noise she made somewhat comical, and chuckled a bit. "The tentacle was his own god damn fault. He did that to himself." He still didn't understand how the hell it had happened. "Just bizaar."

Maryke wasn't sure why she was suddenly being so defensive. Afterall, nobody knew about her and Billy besides Newt, well she'd briefly mentioned she had a relationship with someone on the island with other people, but as far as actually KNOWING, well she was convinced that was her dirty little secret. What could be said, she was naive. It didn't take a rocket scientist to put two and two together. All the same she felt a tiny inkling of cattiness rest inside her chest that didn't do well to just sit idly by and let the comment go without a remark to follow.
"Oh I'm sure it was his fault," she said rather sarcastically. "I'm certain he was just asking for that hook, line, and sinker."

Richard looked at her quizzically, as the tone of her voice had suddenly started dripping venom. Still, her line was amusing enough to bring a smirk to Richard's face. "Well I do suppose, it wasn't the best place to fish. But poor ol' Billy failed to notice a two inch bobber, and instead of telling me about the hook he tries to swim away with a hook in him." Richard shrugs, "Now if you'd like in explain to me how a hook that's yay big," Richard indictates the size of the hook which was about a inch and a half long, "Can lop off a limb thats three times its size. I'm all ears." Richard hmpfed and crossed his arms. Inspecting Maryke's eyes. Why was she all prickly anyway?

Her tail began to twitch back and forth now, the appendage showing her irritation just like how her hazels were beginning to darken. Fingers began to twitch, the perfeclty manicured black nails drumming against her knees as she stayed in her squat.
"Yes, well I'm sure he didn't expect to loose it," she said curling her lip up showing up those pointy little lemur teeth, "just like some guys don't," her eyes ticked down to Richad's chest, "expect to grow tits."

The tentacles, which before were rather lazly curling around the tree trunk, snapped into a striking position so fast they made whistling sound. His eyes narrowed, and his nostrils flared slightly. She had been talking to Billy that was for sure, of course she had also perhaps expected it from their last encounter.
Still, she hadn't actually stepped over the line that Billy had, but Richard did not care for Maryke's tone in the least. "I'm male, no matter what happens." The sentence ended with a growl of warning. The tentacle's quivered.

Because Maryke was already in a squat it didn't take that much leverage to jump at the sight of the raised tentacles. It was an inward instinct that had been instilled inside of her since her last change. At the first sign of danger she needed to get to a high place, anyone would do but trees were the most desired. So she now founnd her feet firmly planted on a branch, her tail swishing back and forth for balance.
She quickly went up a branch, and then another, her monkey hands and feet gripping hard to keep her footing. When she finally looked back down she heard Richard's statement and scoffed, "Isn't that just a matter of opinion."

As Maryke went up into the tree Richard stood up to follow her with his eyes. He wanted to follow her, the "prey" into the tree. Unconsciously he reach out if his right hand and drove his claws in to bark, testing the strength of his grip. Yet he didn't attempt to climb, she was trapped anyway, there wasn't another tree or roof within twenty feet. His tail lashed triumphantly behind him and his stomach growled. Still Richard himself didn't notice his predatory demeanor or thought patterns as abnormal it was part of what he was. What the island had made him.
"It is a fact! They can't just take that away." He sound angry and determined, trying to convince himself that a change in his biological sex just would not effect him who he was. He was just a prisoner of his body. What did he need sex for anyway? He'd been celebrant for over 10 years now. He was Male, and he needed to convince Maryke of that fact.

This predator/prey game didn't go past her either. Most of her adult life she'd been the predator in a sense. She lured coutnless girls into her 'business' she'd always got her way, and now....well now she was the one climbing scared into the tree. But all the same, what she had in fear couldn't stop her mouth.
"oh sure, sure," she said, going up further when she saw his hands claw into the bark. She held a branch with her foot so that she could partially look at him upside down. "And Billy's not an octopus but that same cokehead he'd always been, I'm not a damn monkey but an attractive madam, and YOU'RE certainly not a cat thing with boobs!" she yelled in obvious sarcasm and disdain. Clearly, she'd got off the subject at hand and went straight for his juglar, when all she'd meant to do was defend Billy without letting on too much about their relationship.

Richard something give out in his throat, a piece fell away and opened a set of entirely new sounds. When he opened his mouth to scream at Maryke what issued forth were sounds that no human could make, a gutteral roar sawed up through the air, its mence clear enough to the birds nestled in nearby bushes which took to the air with startled squawks.
Seething with anger and frustration Richard fought to find his voice again, coughing growls issued from his throat instead of the words seeked to form.

At the sounds of the roar Maryke's own instincts gave way and she let out a long series of whoops, barks and screeches. The ruffed lemur had the loudest call of all primates, second only to howler monkeys, so anyone would be able to hear the ruckus they were making. Again she continued to move up and up in the tree until there was no other place to go. She agitated. Hopping from branch to branch and occasionally barking, no longer sounding like the woman she once was.

Richard reached up to jiggle his throat while Maryke was barking. Something popped back into place in his throat, making him sputter into a coughing fit. That had been scary, for a moment there Richard had been afraid he had lost the ability to speak. He shook himself at the thought, pulling his hand from the tree. She had managed to drive him to the brink, putting him in a place where anger had drowned out rationality. A place where he had sworn he would not go. "Why?" His voice was weak, unsteady.
He looked up at her, the tree wasn't all that large, he could still see Maryke through the branches. "Why does it matter to you anyway?" His voice was still raspy, talking over her barks hurt his throat. "I was born a male and I'll die a man. What is just so hard for you to accept that." The words were calmer now, the scare of the loss of control had leeched away Richard's anger for now.

Even though his first whispered phrase was almost inadubile it still reached her ruffed ears and sounded in more magnitude then it really was. She stilled and stopped barking long enough to peer through the branches to get a good look at him. Why? .... she had no idea why. It had been one thing that had escalated and been thrown severely off course.
"It doesn't matter to me," she said with a light shrug gracing her shoulders. "But he does." She stopped as soon as she said the words, eyes widening and hoping Richard hadn't heard.
