Chapter 1

The moon above was an ethereal white, as bright as the sun that glittered throughout the hours of the day. The fields of purple wild flowers waved in the warm breeze, the sweet scent wafting gently. The trees beyond the purple field swayed slightly singing songs of peace, tranquillity and beauty.
Standing in the field was an angel. Her white wings wrapped themselves around her, comforting her as she stood one last time, staring into the glittering sky. One more night, and she would descend into the mortal realm once again. She had decided this would be the last time.
Seven times she had done the journey and seven times she had succeeded. Yet she would miss her celestial form. Her copper gold curls, her sapphire eyes, the skin so soft and her wings so white. She stroked the feather wings tenderly. She would pine those the most. To her they were her identity, her being, her essence.
However, it was too late to turn back now. Her memory would be erased in her descent from heaven. Her wings would be torn apart as she sped through the ethereal barriers. She would have to rebuild herself all over again. Such was life and death. Both were journeys linked together in an unending cycle of rebirth. Angels became humans, to guide other humans to become angels. All were caught in the spiralling plan laid out by the Creator.
"Will you pine for the fields my love?" A male voice spoke, rich and full. Beside her stood another angel, eyes the colour of turbulent storms, clouded. He ran his broad hands through his chestnut hair, a small sigh escaping his lips. Signs of tears lingered beneath his eyes.
"Caedmon, these fields have been the object of my affection from the moment they bloomed. You know of my love for them surely?"
He placed a tender hand on her shoulder, pulling her gently towards him. They stood in silence, staring out across the vast fields of purple flowers. Their friendship had begun the day the flowers first began to grow and like them bloomed into a deep love. Once again, she would leave the field and him. However, Caedmon planned to join his soul mate later, ready to offer her everything he could.
"I will not let you do it alone this time Sera." To this she said nothing. She squeezed his hand tighter, tears falling.
"I promised myself I wouldn’t cry," she said ashamed, wiping them from her eyes. Laughing, Caedmon took her in his warm embrace, placing an affectionate kiss on her forehead. Yet still she cried, her body shaking slightly.
"What’s the matter?" he asked, sitting her down gently.
Sera wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, staring out into the distant hills. Her voice was calm, yet shaking when she replied, "I’m worried Caedmon. I’m worried that I won’t be able to find you. I know that you will come back here because we have no where else to go in the afterlife,"
"Then what have you to worry about love? If we know we’ll both wind up together eventually then why worry at all? Do you want to do this?"
Sera’s eyes glittered brightly, in earnest, "Yes! Even if I were to change my mind I couldn’t! I descend tomorrow!"
Her shoulders hunched over, her face downcast. "I suppose I’m nervous. Every time I do something like this, I get nervous, but when I do I’m fine."
The fields whispered gently, the scent strong and sweet. They had a calming effect on her. Breathing in the exotic fragrance, she lowered herself down, staring to the diamond sky above.
"I’ve never been able to remember if the stars in heaven look like the ones on earth."
"Maybe, when we find each other we can compare." Caedmon flashed her wicked grin, before joining her on the ground, his arms wrapping themselves around her.
"I shouldn’t worry. Everything should be fine right?"
Lightly taking her chin in his fingers, he turned her head towards her smiling. "I love you, and that’s all that matters." With that, he gently kissed her mouth, holding her till the dawn peeked over the horizon.

"Are you ready, milady?" Caedmon said with a smile, still holding the angel as the morning sun glittered through the dew covered field.
"Ready for what?" she asked, waking from her deep slumber.
"Are you ready to take the last step here, and the first step there?"
"I’m afraid…" she held herself close to him.
"What’s there to fear?"
"Losing you…"
"As long as you stay true, I will never be lost," he said kissing her cheek as a tear rolled down it, "Come now, it won’t be bad… I will find you, I promise."
Sera smiled, her blue eyes shining with happiness in the light, "I can’t help but smile when you talk like that. I can’t help but believe anything you say."
"The voice only speaks to your heart if you want it to."
"Will I hear it?"
"As long as you open your heart to it, you’ll always hear me, no matter how far away we are."
She once again sunk into his arms, saying a word. She did not feel she could leave yet she knew she would have to at some stage. She felt something was wrong however. She didn’t know what it was, but she had to go with what her love had said. She should trust him more. Though, she had found out on prior occasions that her instincts had never let her down.
