Yesh. The Persian so awesome. Everytime I see the movie, there's like this... huge.. gaping hole in it. Like something's missing. I think that would be the Persian.

For those of you who don't know who the Persian is, I will give you a small illustration of what his role was in Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera;

Heck, you all knew who he was. I just wanted to make that.

Ahem. I think he was the most interesting character in the book, and besides, I wanted to hear him sing, but however, he wasn't in PotO. Phooey.

So, who else thinks that our.... Persian/Daroga/Nadir/Thingy should have gotten more recognition?

crying *huggles the lonely Persian* and they went through a lot of trouble editing Madame Giry so there wouldn't have to be Daroga. So it's like we lost two characters. We got a new lady by the same name, but we lost the box keeper and the Daroga. Poor Erik must have been very saddened at such a loss.

I hate what they do to make books into movies. They totally butcher the original story to make something the 'public' will like. They have done it for....

Phantom of the Opera
Harry Potter

Those are really the only ones I can think of right now but there are hundred and thousands more.

I absolutely heart the Persian. He is an extremely vital character and he is totally kick a**!!! He provided the only friend for Erik and the only way to bring him down, in a sense. He knealmost every one of Eriks tricks and passages and what not.

D': Maybe ALW is really a numnut that wants Erik to be alone and friendless.

And plus. With ALW's wonderful interpretation of Erik's past, TOTALLY forgetting about Mazendaren (D:<) the Persian wouldn't've made sense. D:

Giry: D: Yeah, and he was in a carnival and I saw him and he escaped.
Raoul: ...but... his best friend is a man from Persia?
Giry: :3 Yep!
Raoul: ...has he... BEEN to Persia?
Giry: =D NOPE!
Raoul: ... I see... O_o;

;~; Poor Persian. ....but I DO love his little fez hat in the Lon Chaney version. xD heart

Well, the only movie they ever had the Persian in was the 1925 version. I think one of the three Phantom musicals has our dear Daroga in it, but I'm not entirely sure.

So many of the movies/TV shows/whatever rip-offs never have anyone as Erik's companion and, weird to say, "babysitter". That's pretty much because they don't think the man is a vital piece to the story. All they want to show is just how messed up Erik is and really giving him a familiar would mess up their already odd visions of him.

I think Mr. Lloyd Webber jumped on the bandwagon and bumped the Persian for Mme. Giry because in the book she does know about him and I'm sure she knew more than just that he liked sitting in Box 5. Though as it's been mentioned before, he does have a little part in the story. He's the monkey musical box! But I think giving Mme. Giry the Persian's part just made Erik's character seem a little more pitiable. Because he's not kept company by someone he met in Persia years ago, but more or less mothered by a woman who rescued him from the cage of a freak show.

I love The Persian, though I found it odd and equally as cute when he actually referred to himself AS "The Persian". And it sounds like he has some beautiful eyes. D=

I love Lon Chaney. And the Persian in that version. (Rhyme!) Though for maybe the first half an hour, the silence bothered me.

Didn't the Persian have a name in the silent movie (Ledoux?)?

I don't believe so. It's been a while since I watched it though so I'm not 100% sure.

wh00t! You have to love Nadir, especially in Susan Kay's novel, he was so cool. I loved his sense of humor and how protective of Reza and Erik he was.

for some reason Nadir always reminded me of Sirius Black from Harry Potter neutral
