No, that just means they are working on it. Like all their other announcements before. or They have gotten as far as they can on their own and have it a roadblock on development. Which would prompt them to turn to an outside developer for additional programing. My guess is they are currently negotiating with some independent developers to actually the Battle System finished in a timely manner. It wouldn't be unreasonable to guess they'll something up and running by Halloween. If they get it up by the summer I'll be impressed. I won't freak until see the announcement icon glow and a link the the Event page for its opening. At that point we can to totally go Freakazoid.

you got to remember that they have to reconfigure our items such as g blades flame swords and maybe even pets like gwees and shadow spirits
which isnt exactly easy

I believe the quote was from Lanzer. And I too think this year is the year for the Battle System. Frankly, if it isn't released this year, chances are it will never be released.

I don't see why they would have to reconfigure your items Artic Alter. If they follow through on the Ring system then they don't have to do a thing for any existing items.

What Lanzer is talking about is features like the Battle System. After the Battle System is done they will likely be designing something else or enhancing existing content.
For instance I could see Fishing or the Casino getting a new look based on Towns or the Battle System. Allowing us to use your full avatars, wander around inside some buildings and so on. That's just speculation but I can see that being done, eventually.
I'm still not sure the Battle System needs to be or will be released this year. It's been "in the works" for several years now. True many of us will burst if it's not released soonish but it could still be another year away. The anniversary announcement doesn't really count as a confirmation. I'm waiting to get reports back from the Conventions. More video, more direct confirmation, perhaps a public demo. There are still a few things that need to appear before I'll have any confidence saying the Battle System will be out this year.
The hiring of Fin, a.k.a Craig, shows that Gaia Interactive is moving into a new gear. Fin is clearly a business manager type who will probably be cutting the deals with other companies for marketing and development assistance.

I had a fiendish thought. Since several users got involved and included in the Zurg plot line perhaps we should start some 'pre-work' to force our way into whatever plot develops from the Battle System. twisted
True we still don't know enough and enthusiasm waxes and wains with announcements, but it may be... interesting to try.

Also I realy think that Gaia could partner up with Youtube the same way they did with Photobucket. Mabe even have a Video Arena were we can host a collection of vids sorta like with the Art Arena. I wonder what companies they are intending to partnering with?
