50%-Snowy Owl

Nick was pacing up a down in front of Colettes duplex, trying to pluck up the courage to knock on the door.

“There no reason to not go in, go on…she likes you you idiot” He kept mentally repeating encouragement to himself, with little progress. He’d been building to this since the other night, he’d practiced reciting the alphabet over and over in front of the mirror, until he could speak properly with his half-beak And he’d taken sleeping pills the previous night, so he’d be able to say up that morning. He wasn’t exactly feeling well, a bit of a fever, but maybe it was just those pills not agreeing with his new owl body, nothing to worry about.

After he’d repeated the same things to himself for the 12th times. He stared at the door for what seemed like forever, until he tapped it gently, gulped, and then actually knocked on the door loud enough to be heard.

Nick waited for a moment, almost hoping no one would answer, so he could put this whole thing off to some other day week. He mentally slapped himself during this brief period.

”You have to stop being that way!”

As much as his mind would have liked there to be no answer, there was.

“It’s me…I c-came to visit” He almost choked up his reply, he sudden answer caught him of guard. For now, he’d rather save his apology for when he got inside, if he did that was.

Colette didn’t sound very pleased to Nick, granted he was far from an expert on girls, but even for him, it was quite obvious. He barely managed to open the door with his deformed feathery hands.

“Oww”

He stepped on some odd pieces that where lying around the floor, he wasn’t wearing his shoes right now, his talons didn’t exactly fit in any shoes he owned, but his feet still hadn’t developed the leathery hard skin a Owls talons should have

“Colette…where are you?” he looked around, quite confused, he’d heard her coming from inside, but there didn’t seem to be anyone in the room. Was she messing with him? Maybe this was just some silly way from her to get back at him he thought.

He was a little startled when he saw the bed sheets move, though he let out a sigh of a relief in his head when he saw it was just Colette. He wondered what she was doing under the bed in the first place. “Don’t bother asking right now”

“I-it’s okay…really” He looked around Lego cluttered the room. “Geez, where’d did she get all this stuff?”

...I came to I-I could…” He trailed off, struggling to force the words out of his mouth.

“Oh…o-okay” Colette interrupted him before he could start his apology, but she seemed okay with him now. He obediently took a seat on the foot of the bed, he needed it, his fever seemed to be getting worse. He was starting to feel more and more unpleasantly warm. He tried to ignore it, at least for now.

“So...er…I’m sorry about the other day” he did his usual staring down at the ground routine, as he pushed a few of the Lego blocks around with his talons.

“Hehe” He laughed politely at her joke, and manged to smile with his beak.

He was defiantly getting worse, maybe it was just Colettes room, back in his own he always had the Air conditioning turned out, Snowy Owls weren’t exactly suited to tropical climates after all.

“I’m all right honest, I think it’s just a side effect from those sleeping pills I had the other day."

It couldn’t just be a side effect, it was getting worse, he felt sick and itchy all over now. His legs starting feeling prickly, he looked down, his talons where literally growing. No, not now of all times.

“Urghh” He gulped a lump in his throat that nearly made him throw up “I-I think...” A sharp pain though his spine interrupted him. “Argh”

He climbed over the bed and huddled down on all fours as more new feathers started sprouting out of his body, until he was covered by a thick coating of pure white. He clamped down hard with his now growing beak, trying to force the pain out of his mind. He didn't want Colette to see this.

“Aaarghhh” he screamed, it hurt too much, somehow that was the only way he could mentally comfort himself.

Things weren’t getting any better, with his new full coat of thick feathers he looked like he gained weight. That prickly feeling worked its way up to his scalp, causing clumps of his hair to fall out, white down taking it’s place. His fingers where also gone now, engulfed in his new broad wing feathers. He pain started to subside, a dull ache in his now hollow bones left behind in its place. He panted heavily, letting it sink all in.

“H-how ahm I?” He shakily said, he old speech problem returning as he refused to look up at Colette, but instead burying his face in his wings and the mattress.
