He hadn't slept more than two hours at a stretch in almost a month, and that was the problem really. That was why he was wandering about in a dirty, oversized, formerly white button up shirt and jeans with holes in the knees and shoes that weren't properly tied, his black hair so unruly he truly resembled his name- Wilde. He looked wild and feral and rather out of his mind. And frankly, he probably was.

Coffee was no longer working, though he was carrying a half full cup of cold Starbucks as he shuffled along. He was no poor hobo, certainly not. At one point he had been a successful and well respected historian and author of several books on famous authors. He probably would be again if he could get some sleep. His job was being most gracious about the entire situation, but then, they understood at the university where he occasionally taught that in order to maintain true brilliance on their staff, they would have to put up with... eccentricity from time to time. And as this was Wilde's first extended stretch of such behavior, and he was so brilliant as to be as successful as he was by the age of 25, they were willing to put up with a lot to say they had him on staff.

Reaching up, he scratched absently at his hair and let his coffee cup fall from limp fingers. He didn't really notice as the lid came off and the cold coffee splashed over his dirty shoes. Under his breath, he had started to sing the lyrics to a Placebo song, which continued as he caught sight of a bright light in the distance before him. His brow furrowed as he continued to sing softly, and he advanced towards the light. It was so alluring. He knew if he could just reach it, he could sleep- in the twisted logic of the insomniac this made perfect sense. And so he kept walking, even when the ground ran out from under him and he fell down a steep embankment he had not noticed. Amazingly, he didn't even feel any pain as his song, broken and inaudible now, drew to a close. "Your body's broken, mine is bent," he whispered, and then he did the only thing he could do at that moment.

He died.

Spirits from a world not his own began their jobs as soon as Wilde was successfully dead. They didn't have anything against him really and it wasn't because they were malicious that they had caused his death. It was just their job.

Quickly they vanished his body and soul from that world before it was lost with the rest of the dead. The soul and body would later be separated but first they had to be cleaned up and repaired so he could later be returned to life. And when his soul and body were separated, the soul wasn't allowed to wander.

Instead his soul was taken to a special realm where only the Tison gods resided-at least their souls that is. His spirit was taken there to bond with one of them-though later neither soul would remember this. A seemingly glinting soul chose Wilde's to bond with and the bonding of spirits began.

Meanwhile his body was sent to the Tison Space Ship-the Samadueanna-to be left in a bed. A simple silver chain had been placed around his neck by the spirits and when the deity chose him a small silver relic appeared on it as well. It seemed to be a sheathed katana.

While most people who were returned to their body-the soul of the deity going into the relic-would wake up almost immediately to talk to one of the crew and get things explained by them, Wilde took several days to wake. It was odd since the children usually were babies in 2 days but this one wasn't. Maybe it was just waking time.

But when Wilde did stir there was a rather flustered pink haired male putting away some medical supplies in a case on the bedside table. It seemed that when he didn't wake up at first the ship's doctor was sent to care for him. Sasha's diagnosis had been that he needed a bunch of sleep and even had given him a partial sedative at one point to keep him asleep for a bit. But now he should be fine.

All he could percieve was blackness, but then, as his senses began to fill in all of the spaces of his familiar, lanky frame, he realized this was because his eyes were closed. For some reason, this almost amused him. He lay in the darkness, simply savoring the feeling of well being that swept through him, and slowly he came to sense that his eyes were gummed shut with sleep.

Sleep?!

His eyes almost flew open at the very thought, so surprising was it. Yet there could be no doubt, he had certainly just been sleeping. Or something more... but no, that way lay a confusing darkness he was not entirely certain he wanted to deal with. Darkness, and a faint memory of a glimmering ... something.

Well.

Sounds and smells trickled in at long last and he came to realize that he was not anywhere he could recognize with those senses, and so finally he relented and cracked his eyes open. Glancing from side to side, he had to acknowledge that he had no idea where he was. Not entirely unusual for him, of course, but always somewhat disconcerting.

Raising one long fingered hand to his forehead, he ruffled his mussed hair and sighed. "Where...?" he began, his voice cracked and harsh and still somehow smelling of coffee, or perhaps that was just his imagination.

Sasha smiled as his patient awoke. "You are in space and need to sleep more often. If you are having trouble with that I recommend sleeping pills." the cheerful young man said, looking down at Wilde and smiling broadly. "You are especially going to need a lot of rest in the near future."

A hoarse laugh escaped his throat at that. "In space?" he croaked, shaking his head, eyes screwed shut. "Now I know I'm still asleep. Though that's probably for the best."

He pushed himself slowly and carefully up into a sitting position. "Or if I'm not asleep I've gone completely mad. My parents always did say it was only a matter of time." He grimaced. "I was hoping to have a few more years."

Yet he sounded lucid enough, to himself.

He pursed his lips as he regarded the strange young man. "So... why will I need more sleep in the near future, eh?"

"Well I'm not sure about your sanity love but I do know that you aren't still asleep. In the near future you're gonna need all the sleep you can get because according to the relic around your neck-which you may not have noticed-in 2 days time you will be the caretaker of a reborn god from another universe." the doctor said cheerfully.

Wilde may not have lived entirely in the solid realm of reality at all times, but even he couldn't accept such a statement with calm and nonchalance. "What?" His head shook slightly, one hand raised in negation or question. "The hell do you mean by that? Reborn god?"

His eyes drifted downwards as his hand moved to hover just in front of his chest. Indeed there was a most interesting artifact dangling from his neck. It was quite beautiful, really, though not so much to his taste. He would have preferred a black feather or something, something to fit his specialty. "Could you perhaps elaborate?"

Sasha thought for a few moments. "Weeeeeeeell the realm I come from used to have many gods. But one of them went evil and killed the others. To keep him from eventually destroying the realm the gods have to be reborn. To keep him from killing them while they're young and powerless they have to be raised in gaia-which he can't get to-by guardians chosen by means unknown. You were picked to be a guardian though I haven't got a clue of what." the other said cheerfully

Wilde regarded him for a long, long moment, then quirked one eyebrow. "Right kid. Look, you should know that I teach college and I've heard more well thought out, and more insane stories than that to explain why a paper wasn't done on time. I'm afraid you'll have to offer me a little more evidence than simply your word and a silly necklace."

Sasha smiled knowingly. "Well I could introduce you to two of the reborn god children if you like. I could also show you the database which details exactly how many children there currently are, shows a current image of each one, and shows what their guardians are. And I could also inform you that calling me kid is rather stupid as I'm 16,000 years old by your world's measuring." he told the other.

About that moment as small tan skinned boy with black hair and a little leafy haired green skinned baby girl entered. The boy had the girl by the hand and seemed perfectly fine but the baby didn't look too thrilled to be there. "Saaaaaaaaaasha. Feejhu needs more of her medicine. Mommy told me to bring her to you." the boy asked the pink haired man.

Sasha sighed. "Yes yes. I'll take care of her. Dia, stay here and keep Mr. Wilde company while I do that." he told the boy, picking up the little girl and carrying her out of the room-much to her dismay.

Now alone with Wilde the boy grinned. "Ooh! You have a necklace! Are you a guardian?" he asked. About 6 or 7 years old but small for his age Diyaka was ever inquisative and even more friendly.

Wilde's arched eyebrow was joined by a second raised brow. He wasn't feeling particularly convinced just because some guy had some database full of pictures of little children. No, not convinced at all.

In the back of his mind, a faint memory of a glimmering... something... awoke, but he forcibly maintained his dubious attitude.

Then two children came toddling in. Sure, okay, they were strange looking. Very strange looking. That didn't mean anything, however, he told himself. Uncomfortable around children, he shifted faintly to pull his knees up to his chest and regarded them warily.

He was not, of course, pleased to be left alone with one.

And then it spoke to him. Using that strange terminology. "I... don't know..." he confessed, wishing he could just go back to sleep.

The boy quirked his head to the side. "You're weird." he stated with a nod. "Well if you get a baby from that relic in two days then you're a guardian." the boy said with a nod.

Sasha returned soon after shaking his head and shrugging. "It seems you're in perfectly stable condition so we can send you home. Though I really do suggest preparing to be caring for a child. I will give you the number to call the ship if you need anything and I'll have you transported back home. This way." he said, taking Wilde by the arm and leading him to the transporter room. Doubtful as he may be, the new guardian had gained his charge and hopefully he bothered to prepare for it, whether or not he believed he'd gain a child.
