So, we've all (ok a lot of us anyway) have read those "Erik-as-a-modern-day-student" fics, right? Sometimes he's in high school, sometimes he's in college. Sometimes he meets Christine by chance, sometimes he's been stalking her since they were both 5. Most times his rival is Raoul, or Rick, or (enter R name here), the popular blond jock after Christine. Occasionally, he even has a friend, another outcast whose name starts with N. But almost always, he's the weird kid who everyone would pick on but is too afraid he'll kill them... and they're usually right. The question lies in what *sort* of outcast Erik is.
So I come to the point. If Erik were a modern student (as a lot of phans like to portray him, probably because it lets them fantasize that they might actually have a chance with him), where would he fit into the little cliques in school?

Actually, I've started on a modern PotO fic that's nothing like that.
But back on topic, the whole characters in highschool thing is a cliche plot that plenty of fanfic writers use when they have no better idea. Believe me, I've seen it done for so many genres of fandom it's pitiful.
And personally I find Erik would be one of the kids you see reading in class all the time but learning anyway. An honor student who excells in practically anything and works in the library after school. *shrug* But I suppose some people would say he'd be one of those depressed "omfg im goth" kids. It depends on how you see Erik as a person.

Glad to hear about your fic-- I'd love to read it.
Actually, I think Erik would probably despise the "omg i'm so gawth" kids. Then again, I see him looking down on most cliques. He comes off as slightly arrogant to me. I agree he'd probably be a loner, but I can't say I see him involved in any kind of school activities.

Yeah, I'll probably set it up here once I decide I'm actually going to finish the damn thing.
And I agree; I don't see him being one of the guys you see running around on the quad or anything. Just that guy everyone knows sits in the back of the class reading and doing his own thing and still passes anyway. One of those people that maybe have one or two friends total and never talks unless it's some serious issue.

Well, with his propensity for black clothing he might come off as "omg I'm goth" to those who just glance at him.

Oh with his musical genius he'd be first chair on whatever instrument he plays in band and/or orchestra, but he would give the teacher like, no respect XD
...and I see him as a techie. A creepy loner techie who only wants more letter points, but a techie nonetheless XD

Hm...O.o; To be honest, I think I've only come across one of those types of fics...*shrugs* I'm probably just one of the lucky ones.
And I agree with you, twin of mine, but with one addition. Music. Freak. ((Oo; Kind of like me, actually.)) He'd be involved in all the music courses offered, etc. etc.

I would say he would be a cross between my friends Ian, Joe, and Katy when she's not on sugar/drugs. He would be exteremly musical but would piss off the teacher a lot especially by correcting them or just being a pain in the a**. However he would be very shy and not be interested in girls at all and could come across as emo. He'd probably hate cliques because he can't fit into them since he's different. He'd be a really big loner and probably swear off love too.
That kind of story sounds kinda fun to write - interesting yet overused perspective.

Erik would not be in a clique. He's an outcast. Outcasts have no cliques. He'd be that poor deformed geek guy that all the jocks like to injure. He'd probably take music and electronics classes, but never look up at people unless he had to, and he'd be the definition of shy, afraid that the girls would give him a look of pure repulsion, or turn their heads whenever he approached. He might also end up as the school sniper or someone who brings a gun to school and just shoots everybody, finally killing himself crying . The thought makes me so sad, but he would be one of the people to do that.

I also see him as a band geek. A bit quiet, smart, longs for the popular people, but looks down on them, thinks of them as objects to play with. Yeah, that's my two-cents.

Guys, I've got a fanfic that's modern day that I REALLY recommend. It does not follow a lot of the 'regular' plotlines. HERE is the link. It's called "No Return", and it's completed.

I agree and disagree with a lot of what has been said here.
First, he would definitely be a first chair violinist, though clearly he'd have a good working knowledge of many other instruments, especially the piano.
He definitely would not be goth. Erik came off as dressed in black because he dressed in the finest clothes of the time period. I would envision a high school Erik as a very well dressed, probably over-dressed for high school kid.
He would be a loner. After years of being picked on and humiliated by the popular kids, he would have a general hatred and distaste for his fellw students. He would come off as cold or harsh with a quick wit and biting sarcasm.
He'd probably also be one of the kids to volunteer for things like stage crew for the school play. Liking more to run the show than to be in it.

Hamlet, Erik, and Harry Potter make their own emo band xd xd Hamlet is depressed because he can't kill anybody, Harry's depressed because evreyone wants to kill him, and Erik.. Erik is lonely and can't NOT kill people XD They'd call themselves "Lonely in Literature" or "Ashes to false Ashes" or something like that XD
Erik would be the "gloomy keyboardist," Hamlet woud be the bassist and sing, and Harry would pretend to play guitar xd heart heart heart
