There was something about this time of year that made her feel strange. She couldn't explain what it was and she was about to try but all the same, that tingling along her neck and that feeling of anticipation were proving impossible to shift. As the wind caressed her cheeks, she gave a slight quiver and shook her long mane from her eyes - all in all, there was something in the air that foretold that this spring would be a good one for her and her family.

The fortune brought by this years winds...well...

A small smile flickered on to her lips and with a soft sigh she slowly began to navigate her way down the slopes towards the plains. All in all, despite herself and her current circumstances, she was really quite looking forward to it!

She even hoped that this year she would meet even more soquili, she was in need of it. From the news that reached her ears it seemed that the population had improved considerably and as a social butterfly she couldn't afford to be out of the loop for long!

Bleh.

It was difficult for Ladius to say what it was about spring that bothered her so. Maybe it was the fact that there were puddles everywhere, and mud; maybe it was the way the ground shifted underfoot as you walked or the way one could literally sink down into the mire for goodness knows how long before getting out again...

Well, it probably wasn't any of that. That sort of behavior only happened to the careless, not those like her that actually paid attention to their surroundings. If anything, Spring provided a challenge in the shape of an obstacle course that needed skill to navigate.

Obviously her loathing of the season was a mystery.

Thoughts of that nature swirled about the mare's head as she wandered through the tall, dry grass of the plains. This area was beyond her usual territory, but somehow she'd wound up making it out this far, in the course of her roamings. Strange where you'd wind up if you didn't really think about it...

Thinking wasn't exactly at the top of the fiery mares list of priorities at that moment in time. She had done enough of that in recent weeks to do herself the entire season! Not that she had wanted to think quite so much, but having been plagued with so many dreams and such excruciating headaches she had been forced to do so in the hope of uncovering the root of the problem.

...So far there was no luck.

She had half a mind to blame the winged one at her teepee who spent half his life watching her, half his life (and hers) reminding her of something she couldn't quite place - it had gotten worse over spring as well, much worse.

Nevertheless, with a toss of her mane she continued across the plains, the small smile never leaving her lips as she caught sight of the first signs of change. The rustle of leaves and the renewed vigour and each bird song emphasised the fact that change was most definitely in the air and it would arrive shortly.

Even so, despite her admiration of the development of the new buds on the trees didn't distract her from the body a distance away from her - a body moving just as aimlessly as her own.

Yes! She had company!

When you lived on your own, you had to be alert. By necessity you had to be alert, or else you might not remain alive. Such was the code of the loner, such was the belief of the fighter. And Ladius...was both.

One ear flicked slightly as the dark mare made her way along through the grass. Then it flicked again...and again.

Lifting her head, it only took a moment for her gaze to settle on the other mare; as brightly colored as she was, it was doubtful that the red one could blend in even if she tried. But she didn't seem to be trying...rather, she was headed almost straight towards Ladius. Straight towards her without any semblence of stealth...but why?

Well, she could wait and see. After all, if there was no attempt to hide an approach, you were usually either confident or innocent...and she'd determine which soon enough.

She wasn't attempting to be stealthy - astonishingly she could be very good at stealth when she wanted to be but at present, it wasn't required. Rather, she was now approaching the mare in a rather mish-mashed manner, floating to and from various things that piqued her interest before at last coming to a halt only a few feet from the rather natural coloured mare.

Ah, a slight pang of jealousy crept into her chest at that.

She'd always wanted to be so delicately coloured.

"Good morning!" She offered cheerily, casting the thoughts aside as she flashed one of her warmer smiles to the strange mare. It was rare for her to meet a female, so she might as well savour the moment and the decent conversation she may get out of it.

"Good morning." Ladius returned the greeting with no small amount of amusement in her voice; watching the other mare make her way over had been an experience in itself. However, being herself she couldn't help but be blunt. "Do you always dance around like that, or is it just the allure of Spring that had you running hither and yon?"

The words were a bit direct, but for Ladius, the tone was mild. However, that didn't necessarily mean that it was mild by others' standards; until she had made up her mind about someone, she was on the defensive. And occassionally, even AFTER she'd made up her mind...

Though this wasn't an idiot stallion; that much was a boon. Whether or not it was an idiot mare remained to be seen, but she'd take an idiot mare over an idiot stallion any day. They might be more obnoxious, but at least they weren't so blatantly OBVIOUS in their idiocy...usually.

"I..." Yei paused for a few moments to recover from the rather direct question. In fact, she found it so out of sorts that she simply stared at the other mare for a time before releasing a small chuckle. Admittedly, the fiery mare hadn't been concerned about how she had been walking but she supposed it may have looked more than a little 'out of sorts' to one who was observing the entire scene.

"I must admit that the Spring fills me with anticipation - I have to show my appreciation for the sights that catch my eye before it is too late." She replied at last and canted her head to the side, continuing to observe the female in a rather thoughtful manner...she wasn't as bubbly as the others that Yei had met and she had met quite a few in her time.

"Although it must have looked terribly odd." She mused.

"I see." Obviously that was something that the two mares were divided on, since Yei's very tone indicated her pleasure at the season. And besides, why else would she be willing to caper about and admire 'the signs of Spring' if they held no allure for her?

That said, Ladius was now eyeing the red mare a bit more thoughtfully. True, she was a Spring fan and a caperer at that, but that didn't necessarily mean she was a write off as a conversation partner. Though she herself didn't really feel much of a need (or see much point) in capering, that didn't mean she was elitist about it.

Still, she was more than a bit taken aback by the seemingly self-directed musings of the red mare. Usually in Ladius' experience, you talked TO the one you were theoretically talking to, not yourself. Or half yourself?

Canting one eyebrow ever so slightly, Ladius' voice was slightly wry when she replied. "Well, I can't speak for anyone else who might have seen, but yes, to me it did look slightly atypical. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, though, since as a rule I'm not around enough to observe the habits of mares." Or rather, they weren't around her enough. However...

"Regardless, if you enjoyed it then I suppose it really wouldn't matter what I thought either way, wouldn't you say?"

"That I can agree with." Yei replied in a good natured fashion, a flick of her head removing the forelock from her eyes (only to have it slide back moments later). All in all, there was very little this mare was hurt by, she tended to ignore the critical comments of those around her unless it was directed to her pelt - perhaps, one of her few most severe weaknesses.

"Although some might point out that in acting the way I do when I observe such things...I could potentially be placing others in danger." She pointed out. Granted, smacking into someone while she as walking probably wouldn't harm them a great deal but a foal might risk being flopped onto their backside - and then there would be tears and angry parents.

Still, Ladius' comments had been awfully peculiar. Safe to say, Yei had never encountered a mare quite like her. Clearly, this mare was not bubbly at all but spoke with a calculated form of politeness that was just a little off putting - it reminded her of some of the stallions she knew, perhaps like them...she would grow on her.

"I assume you prefer the company of others then." She stated simply, not so much a question as an assumed fact. This mare, despite her bubbly appearance often knew when it was a bad idea to push for information.

"Oh! They call me Yei by the way, might I ask who you are?"

Her expression still rather bland, Ladius nevertheless showed a small reaction to Yei's ponderance; a slight shift of the lips, a slight narrowing of the eyes, but considering her feelings on the subjects of accidental collisions...

"Foal or no, each individual has a responsibility to be attentive to their surroundings. Unless you were wandering a LOT faster than the little show I just witnessed, I'd say the individual you hit would be worth more blame than you."

With that, she tilted her head slightly, regarding the mare in a very straightforward fashion. While this wasn't unusual for her, the fact that the mare wasn't shifting about or otherwise acting uneasy WAS. Not that that was a bad thing; nothing made Ladius want to boot a mare more faster than nervous simperings.

"It depends on the others and how I'm feeling, mostly; and I'm called Ladius." When she was around to introduce herself, anyway.

Yei appeared to be mildly taken aback by Ladius' rather bold words but within moments she had recovered. It should have come as no surprise to the fiery mare, she had met enough soquili to know that they weren't all the same but a mare that didn't simper or appear to be 'too good to be true'...Well, even with her experience the mare was rather amused. All in all, the company of this mare was reasonably refreshing.

...At least this way she didn't have to place a smile on her face continually or talk about flowers all day. Although, she conceded to the battle that was about to ensue in her brain, flowers were very nice indeed - she just couldn't talk about them for hours on end.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Ladius." She finally broke her silence again and offered a delicate smile, "I apologise if my social skills leave much to be desired at the moment -" She hesitated briefly and canted her head to the side, her expression somewhat dubious.

"But your manner rather takes me by surprise."
