It was night again. The stars were bright tonight, but there was no moon to lay a glittering path on the waves.
Still, like he had done since he was little, Kiju sat silently on the sea shore and stared out at the dark water. Such great depths! So many indescribable secrets lay like jewels beneath the surface! But the path was gone tonight, and there would be no following it. Even if he -did- know how to swim like fish.
Ah well. The cub sighed and broke his trance. Trotting down to the wave line, he let the water lick his paws and smiled.
Maybe since the moon was gone, he could hear the stars. The light was always distracting, laying that trail into secrets he could never follow. Maybe, if he was quiet enough and patient enough he could hear the star-song too. The waves beat gently, soothingly, on the sandy beach and he let his body relax, succombing to the rythms in the night.
Listenlistenlisten!
But rather than finally hearing what the stars had to say (or what he imagened they would say), Kiju heard the soft -shhhh shhhh shhh- of approaching feet through the sand.

Unawares that her footsteps were disrupting anything, the misty blue female ushered herself past the small child, too distracted in her own thoughts to notice her at first. It was a moonless night, although the stars shone brightly. She had been looking at them herself before deciding it was time to settle in. She slept most oftenly on the beach- although she knew that it would have been more logical to finally settle in to the lands she now called home.
But she liked the sea and sand, and settled down in the slight cove the sand made as it reached the hot African ground. Almost as though the land did not want to quite touch. It made a nice nook, anyways, and it was only when she settled her head down that she noticed the cub sitting along the waterway.
Kilua’s head alighted, and she blinked carefully, observing the young male’s figure. He had a familiar marking, but she couldn’t yet remember a name for him- or if she had seen him before. But with an eager smile she docked her ears and tiredly called from the bank. “Hello there,” She purred, and cocked her head to the side.

Kiju watched, somewhat confused, as the lioness made her weary way past him. What, was he invisible? ... that would be awesome. Then maybe he could hear the birds talking without scaring them away, and sneak out at night better than he could now! And he could scare his sisters and brother easy too. Wow! How cool!
The female's voice drifted over to him and he jerked out of his thoughts. Oooh. So she just hadn't seen him then... too bad. Kiju scrambled to his feet in a flurry of paws and sand, then made his clumsy way over to the other. With an amiable grin he plopped down next to her.
"Hi! I'm Kijuvo, but Momma always calls me Kiju." The cub cocked his head to the side and studied her. "Who're you?"
He might have seen her here before... but maybe not. There were too many lions around! Too much noise and action. He preferred the scene away from all the hustle and bustle.

“Kiju.” She resounded, hiking her voice with a certain air of dignity, as if the name told a whole fortune along with it. “I am Kilua. Kiju is a very clever name. Who is your mother, Kiju?” She asked. Did she know her? He did not look like one of the prince’s siblings...but then again, she had seen siblings looking like strangers before. Something about him though. It was different then the other boy. He was a bit calmer- but still, the spark of excitement. Had her brothers been like that? It seemed hard to remember now, and a slight worry bubbled in her chest. What had ever happened to Kayin and Utomo? Surely Utomo would be alright- but Kayin? She could only hope Hodari had kept to him. She sat, and swayed her tail, looking up at the night sky. “It’s rather late out! But, my mom used to let use stay up.” Well- mother hadn’t really said much to Kayin or Utomo. “I liked to think about what the stars looked like. If you connect them together, they make shapes.”

At the mention of his mother, the purple and brown cub immediatly perked up. His tail brushed the sand behind him and left a smooth trail behind it.
"My Momma's Leboya!" Kiju beamed proudly up at Kilua. "She's the prettiest lioness anywhere!"
Well, -he- thought so anyways. She was always happy and kind and ready to play with him any time he wanted to! She was the best mother anyone could ever want. And his brothers and sisters were great too! Everyone was great! He wished he could share how happy he was with this lioness!
... wait. Pictures? In the STARS?
"Reeeeaaally? I never noticed before!" Kiju stared at the older lioness in awe. "Can you show me where?"

Kilua’s ears eagerly perked, and she nodded her head. “Yes, I have seen her here before. I have never seen another lioness quite like her.” And that was the truth. Before traveling to these lands, she had been somewhat conservative in her knowledge of brilliant colors. Leboya was one example of how brilliant other lions really were. “Here, here.” She swayed, and leaned to her side. “Up there, it’s the cluster not far from the moon. Do you see the one that’s really bright? If you connect it together to those three there, and these four here it makes the shape of an antelope.”

Kiju grinned proudly. "Yeah! Mama is special! She's jus' like those fish in the water off the shore! All pretty and bright..."
Too bad he had that ugly brown in him. Kiju's ears dropped a bit. He held up a paw for inspection and frowned critically at the brown that stained his lovely purple fur. Well... at least he had SOME of his mother's beauty. His sister was so lucky...
But that's alright. He didn't need to be beautiful to make Mama proud.
"Woooow! I see it! Right there! It's so bright!" Kiju was used to using his imagination, so the antelope seemed to almost spring out of the night sky. Kilua was amazing, making this art out of the night and stars! "Are there MORE?"
Maybe... maybe he could make his own pictures too!
