In writer's terminology, as I'm sure you know, a common rhetorical device to lead into a long descriptive passage is to say these words: "Notes for a sketch on _____" and follow with your topic.
This thread serves as a purpose similar to that phrase.
It is intended to serve as a place where members of the Church of Mod can place any number of things, among which are:
1. Their own original poetry and fiction for other guild members to read and comment on.
2. Descriptive or dramatic pieces based on the church itself or set within it.
3. Nonfiction pieces of interest or import to the church or church members.
4. Outpourings of entropy-based eloquence; random descriptive 'sketches' on far-flung topics, comedic essays, commentaries, (well-written) rants, diatribes and editorials, etc., intended for a CoM audience.
I'd noticed that the majority or people in the church- myself included- write a great deal, and I thought that a place to put such writing within a community of friends and solicit constructive criticism might be a good idea.
So here it is- a sort of church "writer's lounge". Please enjoy.

*note: if this thread is a repeat or somehow otherwise transgressive, please inform me and remove it with my apologies.

2. Descriptive or dramatic pieces based on the church itself or set within it.
There are already plenty of RP/storytelling-threads and anyone wanting to start a new one or wanting to add a setting is perfectly free to start a new topic about it. In fact, it's encouraged; the more, the merrier.

The rest is good though, in case someone doesn't want to make a whole new topic.

I like the idea, except I'm paranoid that someone will steal my words. I'm a poet, but people seem to enjoy taking my stuff for themselves. crying

I was thinking more poetry and such than RP or roleplay-based story, but mmmmkay. We'll just keep the rest, then.

Pointlessly Mildly Witty Theme Month #1: November
November's Pointless, Mildly Witty Theme: "Who are these guys?"

The explication: Since we've already got an introduction thread, it's obvious we like to talk about ourselves. So I'm starting up the mill to turn out some autobiography. Not overlap with your introduction posts, now- not just chintzy factoids. Interesting life stories and fascinating anecdotes are the order of the day. And as much poetry as you can throw at me. Anyways, just keep our pointless, mildly witty monthly theme in mind. Enjoy if possible. Moisten end and move around gum with gentle up-down motion.

Poetry, huh? *takes a deep breath* Alright, but no theiving.

Webs
Tangled as a spider's weaving
All this trickery, deceiving
Painful lies and sharp deceit
My tortured web is now complete.

And yet to free myself from sin,
I try to tell the truth to win,
You use my truth as sword and dagger,
Then do nothing as I stagger.

Use your sword to set me free-
Slice the web that's holding me!
I've been entrapped by my deceit,
My own resources are deplete.

What can I do, what do I say?
My sinful tongue has carved the way;
I served the penance, paid the price
For my sin and for my vice.

Now know that I am free from there,
My burden I no longer bear
So say not words that are untrue-
For I no longer lie to you.

This and all poetry are copyrighted to me, so please do not plagerize. I put a lot of work into each poem... please do not use without my explicit permission.

Here's a poem that talks about me, in the most complimentary way possible.
I call it canto one of 'endymion'.
-One-
Endymion his name;
Walks the shepherd in form fair,
His pipe beside that plays the soft notes
Of the spring, to charm
The very waters of the streams
The naiads bless him
And would embrace him
Theirs the long desire
Of a wind-kissed summer
How bright his eye that falls
On the blossoms of the field
And the soft swell
Of the valley as it rises
To exultation
The slim line of the lifted arm
Beneath the humble cloth
And the strength therein;
The running stride
That echoes through the earth
And makes even old Demeter
Pause to laugh at youth;
And the tender fall
Of his quiet step
Upon the heath;
He is beloved of nature
The dawn kisses his lips
Adding her rose
To the bloom inborn;
The noonday shines its gold
Upon his golden raiment
Of the body only;
And ah, how the winds
Sigh to look on him.
His are the sweet notes
Of the shepherds pipe
And never a satyr so beguiling
Nor an Orpheus
To the muse so true
Beloved, he, of nature
And the soul
For to but touch
Those blushing gates
To the inner self, those lips
For to but gaze
Upon Apollo cloaked in flesh
And to see in those eyes
That are so bright
And shimmer like the silver sea
All the spirits pause
All the ghosts give out their dusty sighs
For what is lost
And there is a full tragedy
In a love that is not.

Very nice. It flows really well... the rhythm and the timing is very beautiful.

Thanks very much... I must admit it's not about me, though, I'm nowhere near that conceited.. I'm not exactly 'apollo cloaked in flesh'. rolleyes But it is my favorite poem I've ever written.

Ahh. Well, I thought "descriptive and dramatic" seemed to fall more into the storytelling category, but I gotcha. 3nodding

Maybe. Or maybe it's about Whom or something... I'll never tell. Or maybe it's about Endymion, classical ideal of beauty.
Anyways.

I think it'd also be good for stories unrelated to CoM, but that overlaps with the standard writing forums... so I made the change.
