I'm actually amazed there isnt already a post on this.EVERYONE IS WELCOME HEREI want to start this place as not only as a place to meet other parents like yourselves but to build a support system. As a mother of a 2 and1/2 yr old "special needs little boy i know the frustration, joy, therapies, doctors and all to often pain and desperation that comes along with raising these children. I also know the sheer joy that they can bring. I want this place to be a safe zone for parents to come and chat , find support , share eachothers joys and pains, and to just well get to know eachother. And pics are always welcomed wink

Is it just parents, or are siblings of special needs children/teenagers welcome as well? The older of my two younger brothers was born with only one ear. The outer ear of the other one never formed, and he has none of the inner ear parts either. He's not learning disabled, but he's had over seven major surgeries since he was 5 ( he will be 16 this December), including one to remove his lower ribs to build his outer ear, and a skin graft surgery that removed skin on his upper right arm. He has no directional hearing, and his balence is way off.

He's gotten past the teasing, the stares, and the pointing...and is now a track star at his school, regardless of his balence problems, and thinks he is God's gift to women. ^_^;;

And your son is adorable. heart Can I ask what his exact condition is? Simply because the chair he's in and the headgear ( I guess that's what it is...if not, I'm sorry) look exactly like what my cousin had. She passed away when she was 7, and I was about 10, and since I rarely ever saw her, I never did learn what her condition was. All I know is she was blind, as well as deaf...with some other condition on top of that.

I believe she might have had cerebal palsy...due to now having lots of friends with varying degrees of cerebal palsy, and comparing the way she was always sitting in photographs, to how they are now.

And that's my baby, Tyler. We don't know yet, until his next appointment, but he may possibly be developmentally delayed. He's doing very few of the things a three month old should be doing, besides holding his head up. I'm not too worried about it yet, as I'll just see what his doctor has to say. He is advanced verbally, just kind of far behind physically.

i know that feeling my son didnt sit up unsupported till about 11 1/2 mnths, he had to be taught to crawl at12 1/4 months, taught to pull up at a little over 13mnths and didnt take steps till 16mnth walk when stood up at 17mnths and pull up on object to standing and walk till 18mnths he still cant just stand up. Hes 36 1/2 mnths and still runs like a 1 yr old, he tires easily and falls frequently.....thus the wheel chair he still cant sit up straight and can only walk maybe a block before his legs spasm and give out. Hes always in pain and the head gears cause he hits his head on objects and hits himself. He still doesnt talk or communicate. Its like having a really easily irritable newborn for 2 and 1/2 years... but he has good days with few tantrums sometimes. Im babbling sweatdrop but long story short hes my son and no matter whats wrong with him i still love him to the moon and back just like any other parent should. Even if i have no social life gonk

I work in the special needs part of the highschool here and do volunteer respite for parents whose kids are high support needs. So I'm always impressed by the parents of these kids. You guys are a tough bunch, keep up the good work.

I just know that he can hold his head up, but not steady at all. He barely follows objects with his eyes. Hardly ever reacts to sounds, except when he's looking right at whatever's making it. He doesn't reach for things, and I don't think it's occured to him yet that those hands are attached to him. I'm really hoping he's just a late bloomer, but if he does turn out to be delayed in someway, I'm going to do my best to learn everything about it, and do the best for him that I can.
