Dustling Dragons

User Image

Daemetia, though her name and half-demonic heritage may suggest otherwise, is an incredibly amiable soul. She loves to play with other dustlings and spends a large amount of time in the Fox Fields, chasing fireflies and prancing about in the rain. Quite the chatterbox, she rarely runs out of things to say and do.

User Image Fuka is...well, ravenous, in every sense of the word. She is rarely still for more than a few minutes - there's too much to hunt and see for her to waste time waiting around. Her stomach is always growling, and for some reason, she seems to never be full. Because of this, she is constantly agitated and aggressive, especially when it comes to food.

This odd male has foreign markings. He finds peculiarities in everything - how the stars form special patterns in the sky, how grass dies without water, and other strange observations. Kikai watches his surroundings almost as though he is in a trance, completely absorbed by life's coincidences.

Iro is considerably quieter than his purple acquaintance. He prefers to keep to himself, and rarely seeks the presence of others. Instead, he works on things of a different nature, particularly studying diseases in humans. He doesn't know why the medical field interests him, considering he can do little for humans as a Comet Serpent, but it always has.

Under the Stars

It was a beautiful night in the Fox Fields, as always. The stars were shining and it was cool. Unfortunately, a bit too cool for the fireflies. That wasn't a problem for Daemetia, though. There was always something to do - like digging! The dustling was shoveling up great mounds of dirt and grass with her claws, sending it high in the air. It was hard work, but it was fun and passed the time.

After awhile, though, the female began to feel her talons ache. Owie! She plopped down into the hole she had dug, coiling up into a fuzzy little ball. For a moment, though, she poked her head out, looking up at the stars. She saw them every night, but somehow Daemetia never lost interest in them. Every time she looked up she saw different shapes, and different stars, and different -

WHAT WAS THAT?

Two streaks shot across the sky, scarily close to the ground. Immediately the halfbreed leaped from her rag-tag home, peering around. In the distance, she could see a faint glow, alternating blue and rust-colored. Oooh...pretty lights. Immediately she set out towards the glow, bouncing above the grass. Her feet still hurt, but, this was cool! She couldn't let an opportunity like this go unexplored.

Bouncing over, she realized that the glowing patches were...well, covered with grass, like everything else. Quickly she gnawed the stalks away, revealing...two dust piles? Daemetia tilted her head quizzically, eying them. Were these...dustling babies? One of the piles was a vibrant aurora blue, with splashes of green and purple in between. The other was a bit more dull in color, almost like sand, except that it had strange, gear-like patterns in it.

For a moment, the female simply stared at the two piles, unsure of what to do. Then, in one big snap of her jaws, she grabbed the two and clamped her mouth shut. She couldn't just leave them here! Gagging on the rather gross dust, she jogged back to her hole and safely spit the babies out. Incredibly, the two reformed as separate, perfect piles. How cool was that?! Daemetia plopped down on top of them. She'd seen a hen once. To make its eggs hatch, she had sat on them. Perhaps she had to do the same to make the little dustling babies appear?

This was going to be so exciting! She was...somewhat of a mother now! She would have to take care of her little darlings, and feed them right and cuddle them and teach them to chase the fireflies on warm nights. And then they would dig a bigger hole, and curl up in it together and sleep under the sun. Fate was so kind!
