The days were going by slower and slower it seemed. Almost too slow. It had been a while since Astia had announced that she was pregnant, and that they were about to become parents. Of cource, this happened a long time ago. And she was still fat. The mare still carried their children in her belly. The light brown stallion was seriously starting to get rather uncomfortable and impatient. Oh how he wanted this more then anything, and it just wasn't happening quick enough. Bairn wished there was something he could do to make his children come into this world.
Today, he had managed to slip away from Astia at the last minute, while she was sleeping. The stallion needed some time to think, alone. Last time he did so...he ran into his sister and she had sprung out the news that she was pregnant. Which was wonderful, their children were going to grow up together! And hopefully develope the same bond that himself and Aruna have. It made Bairn happy inside, to know that the future looked bright. The past, not so much...but that was over and done with.
Grinning to himself, the light brown stallion stopped at a frozen over stream and stared at the cold ice. His children were going to be winter babies. He himself was one as well, and Bairn was glad. Winter was the best season. It was quiet, no one seemed to want to be out and about anymore, not in the cold. Too cold for play, which is exactly how he liked it. So that meant that today, he wouldn't run into anyone. No one in their right mind would wander too far from their home in the winter. What if a storm came and they were stuck? Turning back to look in the direction were he left Astia...Bairn just stood there and let his mind wander.
Today, was a happy day. Actually, everyday was a happy day. Now that he knew he was about to be a father. It scared him half to death, but he knew...since he had his parents genes, that parenting wouldn't be a problem. He knew, thanks to everyone's advice...that he would be a grand father. His children were well off.

Diabetia growled and drug her feet across the ground, impatient and ready for the season to be over. The other Soquili and the two-leggers in the land had all been celebrating... celebrating.... what was that holiday called again? Oh right... Valentine's Day.
Just the name alone left a foul taste in her mouth, and she spit what saliva she had in there onto the ground. At first, she had been fascinated with the holiday, with all the sugar and candies that seemed to be spreading around like a plague, but soon after came all that... love crap. Mushiness and promises of devotion and everything else that could make a kalona's stomach turn.
Glad to have gotten away from it all, Dia continued her path into the slowly melting snow and sighed, feeling grouchy. She hated love, and she hated foals, and that's all there seemed to be talk of these days. What she wouldn't give to have a little bit of fun.
As if on cue, Aita looked up with her bright pink eyes and spotted a tan figure heading her way, then stopping to pause. The stallion seemed familiar for some reason, but she couldn't put her hoof on it. Where had she seen him before?
Spreading her wings out, she let them have a good stretch before settling them at her side and making her way towards the tanned stallion. No need to startle him off before she got to have any fun.

Someone was near him, he could feel it. The presence of another being surrounded him in an instant and the stallion silently wished he never walked where he had. Surely he could have easily turned around and ran in the other direction...but this creature probably wouldn't have that. Usually, others seemed to like to talk, they seemed to like having a slightly...strange conversation with Bairn. Everyone stopped him, to talk. It wasn't his decision usually, but he gave in...just to see what they were about.
The stallion moved his head to look at the figure that he headed towards. It was a mare, and she was pink. It took him a moment to realize that it wasn't just any mare...it was a Kalona. Oh, god a Kalona. Those stupid beasts seemed to be everywhere now'a'days...why couldn't they just leave everyone alone and go live in a random cave in the middle of no where? It was usually that they didn't like to talk, why was she here?
Bairn was about to turn around and ignore the evil creature that stood in front of him, but then it clicked. She wasn't just any pink Kalona...she was that one. Diabetia. He had met her before, with Bliss. That ignorant Kalona...who seemed to actually not know what she was doing. Fooling around with a stupid stallion. Why, that wasn't smart at all. Smirking, the light brown stallion made his way over to her, but also kept his distance at the same time.
"Hello, Diabetia. Long time no see."

Dia was caught off guard when the stallion addressed her by her birth name, but it also helped her remember from where she recognized the stallion. This was the stick-in-the-mud brother of her almost dinner, days and days before. Bliss... yes, that was the name of that silly stallion she wanted to sink her fangs into. And this nameless stallion and rained on her parade and ruined it all.
Resisting the urge to snort at the horse, Dia nodded calmly and sweetly responded, "Hello again, tanned one. I must say, it was very rude of you to never introduce yourself the last time we met, but perhaps you can rectify the situation by giving it to me now?"
Her mind flickered back to the memory, and she recalled everything that had happened on that fateful evening. Not only had this stallion prevented her from eating his silly companion, but he had also had the gall to snap at her, of all creatures, a mighty kalona! She had promised that they would meet again, and it was good fortune for her that she was able to keep that promise, even if it wasn't intentional. She had also made a promise to herself that she would find a way to get to this stallion in retaliation for his behavior towards her, and she grinned in anticipation. He looked like he would be a hard nut to crack, but she knew she'd find a way. She always found a way.

Ahaha, so it seemed that she hadn't remembered him at first! The stallion put on a fake hurt expression when she looked at him funny, how could anyone not remember him? He was the one who was always ruining the idiot soquili's fun! The one that everybody hated. And then the Kalona mare actually faked herself again? Haha! What a fool for thinking she could make Bairn think she was 'nice'. He knew better. "Oh? Well then forgive me your majesty, I seem to have misplaced my manners lately. They call me Bairn for that is what my mother and father named me when I was born. But you, you can call me whatever you like." The stallion nodded slowly. That was true...in fact he didn't care what others thought about him, he didn't care if they called him the 'rude stallion' or whatever. It was their opinion, not his.
Blinking at the Kalona, Bairn wondered what was going on in her mind at that moment. She was probably thinking of some stupid plan to get him to fall into her trap just like every other retarted soquili she came across. How silly of her! Indeed, the stallion was deathly afraid of what she could do to him, and was wise enough to stand his ground...but he also learned from Windflame that you can't judge others because of how their breed is. Diabetia was a Kalona, yes, but she acted sweet. Perhaps she wasn't as bad as she hide herself to be? Perhaps this wasn't all just an act?
"Torture any more poor idiotic creatures since we've last met?"

"Bairn, hm?" She echoed, testing the name. "Rather odd of a name... sounds similar to the word 'barren'. You aren't barren by chance, are you, Bairn?"
She grinned, knowing that her comment was corny and dumb, but if it could make herself laugh, it was worth it all. Who cared what this stallion thought? Or any other horse for that matter? She was who she was, and if she couldn't keep herself entertained, how would she ever be able to find entertainment at all?
Snorting, she reluctantly pulled away from being as 'sweet' as she had started out with him, knowing full well this oh-so-serious stallion knew what tricks she had hidden away. It was hard, at first, for her to quit being sweet, as she had played that role so often she was finding it harder and harder to retreat from. True, as always, at the end of the game she would happily devour her prey without any qualms, but sometimes she was so sweet, she sickened even herself.
"Not since you foiled my last attempt with your goofy brother," She finally remarked, her pink eyes lazily watching him, not. "What brings you out here, anyway, stallion? Trying to prevent some of us meat-eaters from dining again?"

"Well, of cource is would. That would only make sense. And don't be stupid, Kalona. That word is only too close to my name, it doesn't mean anything." A small smirk actually formed on the stallions face when she spoke. It was quite humorous, actually, to hear someone say that. No one had ever made fun of his name like that before. "Of cource I'm not." He sneered, still showing the obvious factor on his face that he found her comment to be interesting.
He slowly shook his head at this whole situation. What a perfect moment to run into, actually. It seemed, after something really good or really bad happened in his life...there was a Kalona that quickly showed up and talked to him. It was almost as if they wanted to either help him, or destroy him...but either way Bairn almost apprechiated her presence. Not many would approach him usually, being the the normal state of mind. A jerk.
"Well good then. I'm sure you'll be delighted to know that Bliss is alive and healthy. He hadn't run into any idiots anymore, not after I gave him a talk about the harm that resides in this world." Bairn chuckled, glaring at her as she watched him. "Perhaps. Or perhaps I'm looking for a good meal myself. You know, you're kind is so interesting sometimes it makes me wonder what it would be like to taste the flesh of others." The light stallion sneered sarcastically.
"No? Really? I'm just out here just to be out here. I cannot seem to think of any rules I'm breaking by standing here. You, on the other hand..."

She snorted, trying to curb her anger. No one called her stupid, especially not in a somewhat casual conversation, and with some 'ol fuddy-dud horse who failed to have a sense of humor.
Feeling sour, she lifted one of her legs up and snapped a piece of candy off of her bracelet and began to chew, the sugary rush a pleasant invitation to her mouth. "If anyone's stupid here, stallion, it's you," she thought to herself, her leg lowering itself back down to the ground.
She couldn't figure out why she would take such a taunting from a horse like this Bairn. She wondered if he remembered that at any second she could just waltz up to his tanned hide and take a bite out, with no remorse whatsoever. It sickened her that Soquilis thought of each other so highly, with all those lovey-dovey feelings and crap. Where was the instinct to protect oneself? Why would anyone put someone else above themselves? Was everyone just... stupid? That's why she took advantage of others' feelings; it made them easy, weak, stupid prey. Of course, dozens of mares and stallions alike assumed they could change her... after all, she didn't look so horribly evil, right? Just because she looked as threatening as a toothache, appearances were definitely deceiving.
"Run into any... idiots?" she echoed, her anger increasing. "Why, you wouldn't be calling me an idiot now, would you, Bairn?"
She stepped forward, her pink hooves digging into the ground with rage. How dare he continue to mock her to her face? She would show him....
Dia paused, catching a whiff of something different in the air. She had gotten closer towards Bairn.. the smell... it was coming from him. The smell of....a mare?
She knew her nose wasn't keen enough to identify exactly what the scent was, but she knew from Bairn's stingy attitude that whatever it was around him, it must have some attachment to him... who else would be able to stand being around him?
"Must I remind you, Bairn, that angering a Kalona not only endangers the provoker, but the provoker's loved ones and families as well? Just because Bliss and your others know better than to mess with the likes of me doesn't mean I can't mess with the likes of them."
Grinning, her fangs began to protrude, and her anger simmered down. Perhaps threatening him will teach him to respect a kalona better. She wasn't really hungry, after all, and it would be a waste to kill this stallion for nothing. "And flesh would be wasted on your kind," she told him, matter-of-factly. "Your stubby flat teeth wouldn't be able to handle tearing into it, much less chewing on it."

It had all gone to far, and he realized that. The over sarcastic, calm, brave stallion had gone a little to far with himself this time with a Kalona. The tanned stallion watched at the pink mare had ate her candy. That was quite funny to see, conidering the fact that he didn't actually think that the candy was...food.
Dark brown eyes continued to watch her carefully. Afterall, this certain mare could harm him whenever he wanted. Keeping his guard up, Bairn took his gaze away from her and back onto her candy. How could a creature born into such evil look so...not? It was all an act, of cource, but she did look rather convincing. But he knew better, didn't he? Shaking every thought of out his mind, the stallion grinned at her.
"Me? Calling you an idiot? Ha, no that would definitely make me the idiot. I meant...others. Of your kind. Not YOU." Although he spoke like he was tough, his voice was kept as a good, safe tone. He didn't want Diabetia to think that he was playing and taunting her. That would just get him eaten.
As she got closer, Bairn could only think to step away, eyes wide. No way was he going to just let her waltz up and start to chew on him, if that's what she planned. When the Kalona spoke up again, the stallion took the words to heart.
She did not. She seriously just DID NOT do that. Bringing his family into this...especially Astia or his children was the worst idea. He would protect them with his life, even against the worst Kalona. "If you ever, Diabetia, and I mean ever threaten my mate and children I will come after you. I'd much rather see myself die to your fangs then my family. That's not a threat, by the way. I'm not saying I will do anything to you...and I'm not trying to provoke you. I will do whatever it takes to protect the ones I love. Including Bliss. If I must, I will die for him."
But Bairn nodded. He knew what she was thinking. He knew better then to say anything futhur then he already had. "Wasted, I'm sure. For a stallion such as myself cannot stand up to the likes of you, my dear." He sneered...slightly hiding the fact that he wasn't be sarcastic. "I choose not to eat my own kind, though Diabetia. One of the many differences we have."

She smiled smugly, proud that she had struck fear into this stallion at last. Though he put on a brave front, and perhaps he was somewhat brave, he was smart enough to know the power even the weakest of Kalonas could possess. She wasn't completely sure, but she assumed she wasn't the weakest of her race.
Her grin grew into a sneer as he defended his family. She snorted, somewhat amused.
"Family is nothing more than a waste and a burden... it would do you good to learn that now, Bairn." she told him, speaking from little to no experience herself. "To get roped into that responsibility and headache makes any horse... kalona, wind, kelpi, or even a normal stallion such as yourself not only a weak target, but destroys their lives. No longer can they do things on their own, no longer do they have only themselves to defend, but instead have the burden of a mate and offspring to watch after. And, once the foals have grown and are out living their own lives, the parents are far too old to enjoy what life they have left to them."
Grounding one hoof into the soil, she ignored the thoughts beckoning to rush back into her mind. Her own parents had abandoned her, and it suited her well. What kalona should be born into a loving family? Only a weak one, of course.
Straightening herself up, she continued, her pink eyes dancing, "What happens if they die, Bairn? What then? Are you going to mope around and do absolutely nothing? Of course you will. And then what's left to that once perfectly good life of yours? You'll be as worthless as your dead kin."
She paused, tossing her pink locks over her shoulder once again, toying with the thought of paying his new family a visit. "Families are a waste of time and energy. That's all there is to it."

It was wise to stand your ground with a Kalona, no matter how vicious or bubbly sweet it looked...they brang more havoc then any other creature to walk this earth. Or at least that's what he mother had told him. But then again he had never met a skinwalker and personally wished to never fullfill that, either. Now this particular one spoke as if she was the meanest of them all, and of cource...if he was to remember what Windflame Bloodrider had once said...not all Kalona's are as evil as they seem.
Bairn smirked. Diabetia spoke of family as if it was the worst possible thing. Well, that was obviously expected from someone like her...Kalona's didn't know the beauty of that word. Family. Even so, Diabetia's parents probably viciously abandoned her as a foal. Poor pink little thing, never knowing what it was like to be truly...'happy'.
"Awww, Diabetia do you have a family of your own that makes you speak so negatively?" He spoke softly, not letting himself feel sorry for her one bit. She was a Kalona, afterall. "Perhaps you are right about the headache part...but with that comes happiness, laughter, love...true that is all for the weak, but believe me I thought the way you are right now before I met Astia and now..." Bairn trailed off, letting a goofy love sick smile appear on his face. "They can do things on their own...it's their choice whether or not to give that up for the sake of better happiness. And for your comment about being too old...how do you explain my parents, Diabetia? My sisters and I rarely see either of them, but I know for a fact that both of my parents are alive and happy, never loosing their love for eachother. They were both free spirited soquili who gave that up for a chance to have a family. Who in their right mind, wouldn't do the same?"
The tanned stallion finished and just stared at the ground...hoping that his words didn't go too far this time. But when it came to the subject with family, he couldn't help but defend it...no matter who the conversation was with. Bairn didn't dare look Diabetia into her one evil filled eyes...it was a tad too risky. "If they die? Well, I'll admit I'd mope...but not like a worthless creature, mind you. Everyone dies when their time comes...if my families time was to be now, well then hell to the skies but that's the way it was meant to be. I cannot change that. I'd get over it, just like I'd get over myself, Diabetia. Living a quiet life of solitude of cource...but who ever said that was bad?"
Bairn could only nodd at her last comment, for that was her own opinion and he was in no place to re-state what he had just heartfully spoke. Instead, he got a rather silly idea and had to speak his mind about something else. "Hey, Diabetia. I've met a Kalona before. A male. Windflame Bloodrider, in case you know of him. And well, I'll admit I was deathly afraid of him." The tanned stallion paused and forced himself to laugh at himself. "But he told me, and I quote, 'Do not judge all Kalona's the same. Just because one race is viewed to be vicious and cruel doesn't mean that every one that belongs to that race is so.' He told me not to be afraid of Kalona's just because I've grown up knowing of only the havoc that is caused. It's like the 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' type thing." The tanned stallion paused once again and then looked up at the female Kalona finally. "If I shall stick to my promise of not judging others, then I must say, Diabetia...you seem like one of the Kalonas he speaks of, someone of his own kind. A Kalona only by looks, so to speak. Not by personality if I do say so myself."
There, that was said. Was that going to get him killed? Probably. But he could only hope not.

"Family of my own?" Diabetia echoed, stunned at the thought, "Why, I should hope not. What a horrid thought to put in my mind, stallion."
The unwanted memories flooded back into her mind, and her smug grin slowly turned upside down, into a scowl. No, she didn't think about her mother. No, she didn't think about her father.... in fact, not one blood relative came to her mind. But he did. That ******** b*****d.
Grinding her teeth together, her long fangs jutted out from her mouth as his face formed into her imagination. Oh how she despised him. She had been foolish enough to respect him and actually cared for his opinion...damn it all, she had even looked up to him! What a stupid, STUPID mare she had been. He didn't care, no one cared, just as no one should care.
Her eyes gleamed with rage, and she turned to face Bairn once again. "No one..." she gritted through her teeth, "No one in their right mind would give up their freedom for a family."
Normally, she would have given more thought into his claim of being able to 'get over' his family's death, but her mind had gone elsewhere, and she struggled to bring it back into the present.
She fought with herself inwardly, and almost failed to hear Bairn comment about some other kalona... some Windfire or something. Her pink eyes widened by this so-called kalona's comment, and she felt herself growing angrier.
"That kalona you speak of... he's a mockery of the breed." She growled, her thoughts attempting to form before she spoke. "No true kalona would have such feelings. A kalona is a kalona for being vicious and cruel... it's why the race IS the race it is. No exceptions to the rule."
She lowered her head, her striped horns pointing in the stallion's direction. How dare he bring back those unwanted images in her head? What right did he have to speak to her about family? She should track down his family and devour them one by one, all in front of his eyes, and the thought held merit in her mind for a minute or two. There was a reason she left the land she left, and she'd be damned if she let the memory resurface now.

"Well, I'm terribly sorry for putting that in your mind, then." He mumbled softly, wondering why in the world she'd take his comment so wrong? Family wasn't bad...unless they did something terrible to you. But there was always a way to fix that, no need to end up like your parents or siblings did. The tanned stallion stared at her as he watched her reaction to what he had asked her.
And then his eyes got wide as she bared her fangs. What? Was this all about? Had he said something that hit her too deep about her past, or had he just pissed her off? Oh, how Bairn hoped it was the first one...he couldn't bare to have those teeth into his body. Moving his head so he wouldn't have to look at those fangs, the stallion spoke in a soft voice. "Perhaps. It's a matter of opinion. Or race."
Bairn just stood there with his head turned to the side and waited for her to attack him, but it never came. Opening one eye to see what she was doing, his dark eyes saddened. She wasn't listening to him, and Kalona never really ignored their prey (according to Windflame) so that had to mean her mind was elsewhere. Family, perhaps?
"Really? I happen to think that Windflame was quite the charmer. But then again, can there not be polite ones in your race if there can be vicious ones in my own?" He kept the same soft voice, just in case the Kalona decided to finally lash out on him. "That's what I said, but he threatened to eat me if I ever thought that way again. So...I don't know what to think, really." A small grin appeared on Bairn's face and he slowly turned to face Diabetia once more.
"Forgive me please if I am in no place to ask this." The tanned stallion blinked slowly, wanting to know what was bothering her...but also wanting to save his hide. Perhaps asking wasn't the brightest idea. "But your past...was it as horrible as mine?"

She started calming down as he backtracked his words and attempted to make excuses for her, as uneeded as they were. There was no reason to get upset with this stallion in the long run... it wasn't like he could run and tell the world, right? She guessed he could, but knew he wouldn't, for fear of safety of his own kin and family.
"Of course there are polite ones in our breeding... are you saying that I was rude, when we first met, Bairn?" she asked, her voice thin, challenging.
She felt how tense she was growing, and allowed her bat-like wings to spread out and stretch themselves, gently moving back and forth, before allowing them to return to resting beside her.
She noted the concerned look on his face, and thought nothing of it. What a waste of his emotions, if he was trying to pity her. She caused the grief that happened in her life, and she'd be the only one who would be forced to deal with it. There was no reason to burden someone else with something that didn't concern them, nor was she looking for more pity.
She suppressed a grin as best she could, as he attempted to get her to speak of her past. "I have no past," she stated coldly, her mind shutting itself off from him and the memories. She was curious, though, at how a stallion who seemed to have such a loving family and mate, would have a wretched past. Or was he exaggerating? Perhaps if she gave him a little of hers, he in exchange would trade stories?
Staring him down, she offered only a piece of her history. "There was perhaps a monster who devoured those wasted years, and having left the land he reigns, I no longer am forced to deal with the likes of him and that forsaken place."
Leaving it at that, she raised one eyebrow in his direction, "Now, stallion... what could have happened in your life that would leave you with such a horrible past?"

Dark brown eyes got wide when the Kalona asked him her question and he violently shook his head. That definitely wasn't his intention and if she thought so, well then he'd have to save his hide by saying something witty, right? "Of cource not, Diabetia. You were being a hungry Kalona. Although you didn't need to take it out on Bliss. He's about an idiotic and innocent as they come."
His own voice was kept at the same low tone, careful of what he said, careful of what she'd do...but still obviously showing his hate for all creatures and he's snarky sarcasism. The Kalona wings came out almost randomly and it made the tanned stallion even more careful. Those things were rather large, and with them, Diabetia could fly. Ooh, how the possibilities had suddently made Bairn much more aware.
The Kalona's comment made the tanned stallion stare at her in a confused look. No past? Everyone had a past, oh wait. Perhaps her's was so much worse than his, she chose to forget it. Damn his big mouth. "I'm sorry?" Bairn questioned, unsure whether or not she was happy about that.
Listening to her little story it made Bairn sigh. Ah, his past was no where near as terrible as hers, no where. "I'm sorry you had to endear such a terrible past, no one not even a Kalona deserves to have someone close to them rip apart everything they live for. Which is what I once was, to my family and my mate. A terrible stallion." He blinked and then decided to just go with it. "Nothing close to yours, although I suppose it's almost opposite. For I was the monster."
