No.
The only games you can play online with Silver are those MMORPGs that have a monthly fee such as Phantasy Star Universe and Final Fantasy XI

jpzero whats the point of silver then To communicate with friends really. You can still download offline demos in the marketplace also. But I'd suggest you get Gold because it's only $50 a year.

You can purchase Gold Subscriptions at any major retailor that carries Microsoft products.
IE: Gamestop, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
You get a card that has a number on it.
You enter this into your Xbox 360 and viola, a year, 3 months, or a month of Live depending on how much money you payed. (The more you pay in the beginning, IE for a year of Live, the more you save. It's $8 for a month card. 8 * 12 = 96. Compare to 50.)
You can ALSO use a credit card over Live. Doing that you can easily buy MP (Microsoft Points) and extend your time automatically. Microsoft Points are used to buy downloadable content from the Marketplace like picture packs, themes for your dashboard, Arcade Games, TV shows, Movies, maps for games, expansions, ETC.
You should have a month of free gold with your Xbox. Every new account can use a free month of Gold. Just sign up through your system.
