This is the Metal Reign Guild. Like it said on the main page this guild is intended for people who love metal to come and talk about their favorite genres and favorite bands. So enjoy!

The rules here are the same as the TOS.
I do not want flaming or personal attacks on anyone because it is simply not necessary. It does not enhance anyone's experience here and it makes you look stupid and ignorant.
I will do my best and to get all the metal genres up and running (the sub forums) so please bare with me, I'll do it as quick as i can.
Any other concerns or questions please feel free to pm me anytime.

Guild Description
Metal Reign is a guild for people who are into metal and want a place to have a calm, laid-back conversation about the music they like. There will be a sub-forum for each kind of metal, as well as a "Other Music" and a "GD (main)" forum. There is also a thread in the main forum where, if you are unsure what genre a certain band belongs to, you can ask and someone will tell you what it is.

In order to join we ask that you say at least a little bit to show that you have an interest in metal (i.e. a few bands you enjoy, as well as which sub-genres). You do not have to be completely familiar with metal (or even if you are just getting into it), just give us some kind of idea that you are in fact interested in learning more and we will accept.

Once you are accepted please use the "Introduce yourself" topic and read the Announcements and Stickies. If you are looking for recs there will be a rec thread in each of the sub-forums where you can ask. In the "Other Music" sub-forum there will be separate threads for different kinds of music (try to look for an existing thread before you make your own). Now here are some rules that you should follow at all times (in addition to the TOS that is).

1) We do NOT tolerate aggressive behavior, rude comments, OR elitism in any way shape or form, it doesn't matter who you are or who you are friends with. It will not be tolerated here. This doesn't mean you can't disagree or get into a debate with anyone. It simply means that when the debate or argument gets out of hand,( ie flamming) we will put a stop to it.

2) If you do violate our rules, there will be a 2-strikes policy:
1. Warning,
2. Perma-ban you will not be let back in after this.

These rules should be clear enough and easy to follow.

If you feel that someone is breaking rules and you don't see it being taken care of, feel free to PM a mod to handle the problem. If it is a mod who is causing the problems, contact a different mod to report it.

If you have any trouble placing a band under a certain genre, its okay. Just do your best because i know sometimes bands can go either way at times. If you really, really place the band wrong then I or one of my mods will move the thread to the correct place. I will not ban you for this BUT if you do this on a regular basis to harass me, my mods, or any other members here you will be banned.

Another thing, lyrics do not make up a genre. So take Amon Amarth, they sing about vikings, that doesnt mean they are viking metal. Battleheart sings about pirates that doesnt mean they are pirate metal (made up genre to illustrate my point).

Here's a list of genres that get confused with being metal, with band examples. Please read carefully.

These are to be talked about in the "Other Music" sub-forum:

Nu-metal: Nu- metal is actually more of an "extreme" alt. rock
(ex: Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Drowning Pool, Slipknot)

Metalcore: Some metalcore is metal and some isn't. If there is more talk of this there will be a new sub-forum but for now it isn't necessary.
(ex of stuff on the metal side: The Red Chord, Lamb of God)
(ex of non-metal side: Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Bullet For My Valentine).
If you are uncertain which side a certain band is on, use the "Genre Question" sticky.

Glam rock/metal: Only some of these bands are metal (and the ones that are are just plain heavy metal)
(Stuff like Twisted Sister, Motley Crüe Are Heavy Metal, while bands like Poison, Whitesnake, and KISS are Hard Rock)

Classic rock: Although a lot of these artists had a lot of influence on metal, they themselves are not metal.
(ex: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, and AC/DC)

Progressive rock: (ex: Yes, King Crimson, The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard)

Hard rock: (ex: Guns 'N Roses, Godsmack, Rob Zombie)

Shock Rock:(ex: Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson)

Punk: (ex: The Misfits, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols)

Hardcore: Hardcore is a sub-genre of Punk not metal.
(ex: Earth Crisis, Converge)

Grindcore: and all its variants; noise, crust, etc are a sub-genre of hardcore
(ex: a**l c**t, Libido Airbag)

Emo/Screamo: This is actually a sub-genre of hardcore. And bands like Fall Out Boy and MCR are not Emo/Screamo

Gothic rock: (ex: Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Fields of Nephilim)

Industrial: (ex: Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, KMFDM, N17)

Alt. Rock and Pop/rock: (ex: Weezer, MCR, Fall Out Boy)

Grunge: (ex: Alice in Chains, Nirvana)

I would also like to add that if you are posting in either the Doom, Thrash/speed, Heavy/Power sub-forums (or any other that has multiple genres) please put somewhere in your post (to the best of your knowledge) which type it is (i.e. Trad. Doom, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, etc.).

I will stress this point yet again, my rules are easy and simple to follow. As long as discussions don't turn into insults and blatant fighting, then we don't have a problem, and you are in no violation of being warned or banned. However, if you violate the one rule Metal Reign is serious about, then you will be warned. As long as things stay in control, there is no problem with disagreement, debating, or simple teasing. It's when people's feelings get hurt or when no respect is giving, that my rule has been violated.
