I stopped reading comics around November last year, quit cold turkey. I was just fed up with the sickening downward spiral.

However, I find myself curious about my childhood icons and heroes. So I need updates, and opinions on how they are being treated. I didnt want this lost in chat, its kinda important for me to know, thus this temporary thread.
So:

1.) Why did they kill Kon-El?

2.) Whats Clark, Bruce, d**k, and Diana up to these days?

3.) Is Geoff Johns still writing everything?

And lastly, totally open-ended, what do you like/dislike about DC '07? What have they fixed? What have they broken? What would you like to see happen in the near future?

Thanks, my comic-reading amigos! blaugh heart

I've actually LIKED what I've read of Johns' work this year.

Coming from me, that should have some weight.

Didn't read Infinite Crisis, don't know why Kon is dead. DC comics has been hit and miss so far for me (bearing in mind that most comics have only had ONE issue in 2007). Supergirl is atrocious, I dropped Flash four months ago. Both are getting new writers, so I'm optomistic.

Legion of Superheroes has been pretty good, JLA: Classified has been GREAT, and I've started collecting Birds of Prey.

Could you give me a quick backstory on this title plz? smile

JLA Classified is 4-5 issue long adventures of the League from various eras. Sort of an 'out of continuity' title. The most recent run is by Dan Slott, starring the JLA just after they got John Stuart on the team. The last arc had Kyle in it. If you miss the good ol' days, it's worthwhile to pick up.

Kon-El died while fighting Superboy Prime. Cassie and Tim got all angsty over it. Tim's actually been trying to clone a new Kon-El in the pages of Teen Titans.

Batman and Superman are pretty much back to their norm. The Wonder Woman mantle has apparently been taken up by Donna Troy during Diana's absence in the time in which 52 takes place, and the new Wonder Woman title unveils Diana posing as a government agent, who is trying to rescue Donna, who's under some sort of control by Doctor Psycho.

And I have no idea what Johns is writing these days, outside of one of the 52 storylines. All I know is that Marvel let Jeph Loeb get his grimy fingers on Wolverine, and I subsequently want to shoot things.

I know how Kon died, Im just wondering why the heck DC killed him off? It seemed so completely random and worthless!

Has Superman depowered? The stuff I was reading in Superman OYL back then, he was exhitibiting new powers.

Loeb on Wolverine? Oh god... gonk

JLA: Classified has been GREAT.

So now I have to start picking up that title too? gonk

I enjoy the new JSA. I think Johns is writing it. Cyclone, kooky Starman,
Ted's kid. Good stuff.

I love 52.

I grabbed the last two issues of Ion, Mostly because of the Tangent verse crossover. I thought it was okay.

I enjoy every issue of Shadowpact.

LoSH is okay, not my favorite title at the moment.

Green Lantern is mildly interesting.

I like Robin and Teen Titans.

I don't realy like the Flash at all, and Supergirl doesn't fail to disapoint.

Most of the Batman title I grab have been okay. With the exception of Batman #663. burning_eyes

Blue Beetle and I have grown apart. I'm just getting very uniterested in the story.

Most of the limited series have all but ended. Uncle Sam, Shazam, Creeper, Martian Manhunter.

Oh, WHY? I think it has something to do with that ongoing lawsuit between the estates of Siegel/Shuster and DC over who has real ownership of the Superman character (and subsequent wearers of the trademark S). DC gets to keep Superman, but they had to discontinue any use of Superboy. This is all just heresay, btw.

Supes was depowered at the beginning of his OYL story, but now he's back to normal, and they still haven't apparently decided if they're going to bring back the super-intellect.

And yes, Loeb on Wolverine. Most specifically, the line "I hate Canada." I literally did a double take on that.

My big problem with the current Flash title is that they made Bart grow up and sent Wally to the future. Personally I was liking the Titan line up they had (Robin, Superboy, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Beast Boy, Starfire, Raven, and Cyborg). Kid Devil is cool as is Miss Martian, but I wasn't a big fan of adding Ravager.

I also recall reading that Siegel's people were angry about the use of anyone called Superboy since he had proposed the idea back in the day and DC rejected it and then used a similar character without Siegel's permission. Even so though, I still say it's lame that they can keep a supergirl (who is kryptonian) and kill off superman's clone.

Then again, in comics, clones don't have a high life expectancy... stare

All in all though, I will say that I believe DC Comics is putting out a superior product to Marvel. Civil War is lame and can't wait for it to be over.

"Siegel's people?" Isnt he dead by now? Isnt "back in the day" like 70 years ago? This is ridiculous. Are they suing that lame-o show Smallville also?

Hey, why's everybody hating on Supergirl? And how the heck is she Kryptonian anyways? surprised

The current Supergirl appeared in Batman/Superman. She is actually Superman's cousin who was sent to watch over baby Kal-El but was left wandering in space. All though there have been some hints that she was suppose to kill him.

Don't get me wrong, I love the new Supergirl. I just don't see why it's bad to have a Supergirl and Not a Superboy.

I was under the impression that title was out of continuity. stressed

Because right now she looks like Nicole Richie and is a Super Slut with Super Incest Lesbian Slut powers. Not one of the original power sets, I can tell you that. Hopefully the addition of new writers and a much MUCH better artist will help fix that.
