On a fairly cool day on what actually seemed like a warm day for the winter season the tall plains grass blew about whistfully in the light breeze. In the midst of the grass an adult calico colored mare layed on her side on the ground. Her eyes were closed and her breathing slow. She looked to be possibly dead but she was merely sunning her dark body trying to soak up all the heat she could into her dark brown, tan and black fur. For her large size and long fur she got cold easily and laying in the sun seemed to help keep her warm much better than standing and allowing the wind to pass over more of her body. She stayed still and quiet only flicking her tail or ear when a piece of grass or a fly came along and tickled her.

It was rarer and rarer these days that Silverwings was able to get away from his Indian friend, Salali, and go flying. It felt so good to be up in the clouds, the wind between his feathers and in his hair. Such an experiance was hard to describe to those who could not do it, but for those who did it was purely heaven. Unfortunatley, breaks in the dream were neccesary, and the stallion had to find a plae to land. He chose cozy enough spot on the vast plains for his landing strip, and came down much in the way a plane might. Before he hit the ground, his legs were already galloping, and when his hoves touched grass he was moving forward. What he hadn't planned on was a mare in his path. Luckily, by the time he was nearly on top of her, he was at a slow canter and getting ready to break down to the trot. Pulling up as fast as he could, the brown equine reared and turned his hind quarters towards the side, landing with a loud thud beside the other. He breathed hard, his heart racing from the prospect of having trampled any living creature. Between breaths, he was ab to push out, "Sorry, miss. Didn't see you there."

Halloween never even noticed the stallion who almost stepped on her until she heard the loud thud and heard the male appologize. Slowly opening her eyes Halloween turned her head to peer up at the stallion. He seemed rather polite and she was so cold she wasn't even up to getting onto the stallion for almost stepping on her. "Eh..." She simply replied as a cool wind blew over her and she shivered. "How can you stand this cold? You have such short fur you must be colder than I and I have extremely long fur." Halloween said as she switched her tail about to toss the hair over her legs as a feeble blanket. Why did the cold bother her so badly?

The stallion had hardly noticed the temperature, to be honest. It was about the same temperature as the middle of the forest, where his Indian lived. "It's not all that cold, miss. It just takes some getting used to is all." He folded his wings more comfortabley, evening out his stance to something a bit more casual, although maintaning his gentlemenly posture. "If you're cold, though, you might want to move to a place a bit more sheltered from the wind." He nodded his head back in the direction he had come from. The trees created some shade, of course, but they also blocked the wind. The patches of sun made up for the coverage, and the thickness of the tree patches made sure that very few gusts got through.

Halloween lifted her head enough to look at the forest trees lying at the edge of the plain. Why hadn't she thought of that? The cold was certainly effecting her thought processes. Getting up from the ground she shook the dirt from the fur and settled her fur back into place. Now on her feet she was able to get a good look at the stallion she was speaking to. "You've got wings. Is flying harder when it's cold?" She asked rather curious whether or not it was colder higher up.

Silverwings was now presented with an awful problem. It was one of those rare days off, and he had intended to spend almost all of it in the clouds. Now, however, he was at the beginnings of conversation with a mare who had a serious lack of wings. His gentlemenly nature didn't allow him to say anything about it. There in lay the dilemma. The stallion wanted to fly, but he also didn't want to stop the conversation. Perhaps if he could get the mottled brown mare walking, he could fly very low next to her? It was a start, at least. "Well, it's not really that bad. It's cooler than down here, but you get used to it if you go flying a lot." A proud smile seemed to take over him and he fluffed his feathers a little. "Anywho, if the wind really does bother you, why don't we go over that way?" He tilted his head towards the end of the plains eagerly. Without waiting for a response, the stallion flapped his wings lightly and took a few steps to push off the ground some. There, he hovered about the mare, just hardley off the ground, but enough to get the over all feel of flying.

Halloween watched the stallion closely as he spoke. The light cool breeze that blew through sent shivers down her spine. Oh how annoying the cold cold be! When the stallion offered they move she didn't need a second push. She started for the trees at the edge of the plains. "So this cold doesn't bother you does it?"

((Sorry it took so long to reply. sweatdrop ))

((Hey, no problem. <3 I wouldn't have had the time to reply 'til toda, anyway. I have lacrosse practice everyday after school plus games every saturday.))
Floating gentley on a light breeze, the male went along at a steady pace, easily achieved by a ground-bound Soquili. "Not much, miss. It's really quite pleasant once you get used to it." He smiled politely and nodded. "With that long fur, surely it shouldn't bother you so much? My own furs are short and simple." Then again, he mused, his wonderful feathers might help a bit. On ground, they added an extra layer of protection from the wind. In air, they provided warmth through exercise. He simpley couldn't imagine a life without them.
