Demare rang the doorbell as he reached the house, his left arm behind his back as he clutched onto the bouquet of flowers and small box of chocolates in one hand. His wings aided in hiding the visable gifts, another one hiding in his pocket for when the moment was right. Upon request, the teenager had dressed somewhat casual, wearing his black button-down shirt with black slacks like he normally did to work. Though, he kept his buckled boots, finding them to be more comfortable than the black tennis shoes Domonic made him buy.
He felt nervous. Something in the pit of his stomach made him feel awkward about all of this, being a little cautious of the fact that he was technically dating a young child. Granted, he didn't want to give that up because he knew how he felt about her despite her age, but at the same time he was afraid of being shunned by close-minded observers, and even more afraid of getting upset by any comments that might be said. It was everything he could do to keep his calm around the girl, not wishing to frighten her with his new found temper.
But then again, Mayu normally understood when it came to these things.
Taking in a deep breath, he exhaled slowly as he patiently waited, brushing his long reddish bangs away from his face with his free hand. Everything would be fine... This wasn't like their other adventures. In fact, this wasn't really even an adventure. Technically, this was a date. ...Their first date. ...An actual planned romantic event.
The halflings face grew red with blush as he thought more about it. Oh man, he felt just like a kid again... Maybe that was a good thing.

"Are you a door-to-door salesman?" Kimiko said bluntly, not bothering to look up as she opened the door. "If so, we don't want anything you're selling, we've got enough of it--"
The teen stopped mid-speech to look up, glancing over Demare before slamming the door closed. ***** style="color: #ff99cc">Mayu, dressed fully in a pink kimono and tall wooden sandals, ran out from the kitchen door with a basket of flowers in her arms. She placed the basket down on the bar before looking over to her guardian.
"Who was it?" she asked, glancing back down to make sure she had everything. Food, flowers, candy, gift...
"Salesman," Kimiko replied, leaning against the door with her arms crossed. There would be no ***** preying on her daughter today!

Well, that was rude. It also negated any worries he had, and replaced it with bitterness. Instead of ringing the doorbell, he knocked on the door, giving it three patient raps. The mother didn't have to like him. As far as Demare was concerned, he could care less about what Mayu's family thought about him.
They were just NOT going to ruin this day.

"Nn," Kimi grunted, "so persistent."
She drummed her fingers against the door, waiting for Demare to give up. He was not taking Mayu out on Valentine's Day if she could help it.
"But what if it's something important?" Mayu pondered, making way towards the door. "I think a normal salesman would have given up by now..."
She attempted to nudge Kimiko away from the door so she could get a peek at who was outside, but the teen remained adamant. With a pout, the Legend shuffled back into the living room, rearranging the order of the items on the counter so that they could be picked up more easily.
That was it, the kitchen door! She could get around to see the salesman if she cut through the bushes!
Mayu glanced over at Kimiko, who stared back with curiosity at what was going on in her daughter's mind. She grinned, turning around to walk in the direction of the stairs. Suddenly, the Legend made a swift turn, pushing through the door and running through the kitchen, and through the door which led outside.
She pushed through the various foliage which stood in her way, slowing to check her outfit as she turned the corner and sped down the grass. Good, no scratches.
...Wait, that wasn't a salesman.
"You made it!" the child cried, stumbling up the stairs and onto the porch. "Happy Valentine's Day!"

Demare hadn't even heard her coming until she was almost up the stairs. The teen practically jumped, dropping the box and flowers from his hand as he grabbed at his chest, leaning his free hand on the door. Good GOD, people shouldn't surprise others like that!
Shaking his head, the halfling turned around once he had collected himself, blinking a few times as he realized Mayu seemed a bit taller. Looking down a little further, however, he noticed the tall shoes she was wearing. How could she WALK in those things??
"Happy... Valentine's Day," he finally said as he crouched down to pick up the red heart-shaped box and the bouquet of flowers. His cheeks were turning red again. "Uh... th-these... are for you."
The flowers didn't look like something one would normally just pick up from the store. There were tiger lilies, daffodils, heather, orchids... A bit of an odd arrangement, but the colors were so beautiful and brilliant that it was possible to overlook the oddity.
The box of chocolates was fairly small, only carrying maybe 10 candies inside of it. He figured it would be best not to give her too much, especially after that one sugar incident...
"You look... beautiful, by the way. I don't think I've ever seen an outfit like that before."

"...Wow," Mayu said, taking the bouquet of flowers from Demare and marveling over the beauty of the types he had picked. How thoughtful! She took the box of chocolates from him too, blushing slightly as she shuffled them around in her arms so that she could have a free arm to grab the door.
"Um, I have a gift for you too. It's on the kitchen counter... so will you come in for a sec?"
She didn't wait for a reply, reaching out to grab the doorknob with her free hand as she balanced the objects in her other. To her surprise, the door swung wide open --- Kimiko nowhere to be found.
Mayu stepped in, leaving her slippers at the door as she went to find a vase for the arrangement.
"Just find a seat while I get everything ready," she smiled, disappearing into the kitchen.

Demare rubbed the back of his neck a little bit, standing upright before ducking his head as he stepped into the house. Instead of taking a seat, however, he merely stayed by the door, tucking his wings in as close to his back as he could. He was cautious about going to other people's houses now that his wings were much larger, not wanting to knock anything over by accident.
Shoving his hands into his pockets, he made sure something was still in there as he looked about, getting a better feel for his surroundings. As a child, he hadn't really noticed much before, only having been here that one time. Everything seemed different to him now, however, as if growing made him see things in a whole new way.
For some reason, it was making him uncomfortable.

"Everyone else is upstairs or something, I guess," Mayu voiced, returning with a decorated glass vase in which she had placed the flowers. She put down the vase on the coffee table, going back to get the box that she had left on the kitchen counter.
"This is for you," she smiled, looking down at her gift nervously as if she was worried that he wouldn't like it. She held it out to Demare meekly, waiting for him to accept it as she glanced down at her feet.

The halfling could feel his face get even redder as he took the box from her, noting the fact that while it looked large, it felt fairly light. He paused for a long moment as he looked at the wrapping paper, over to Mayu, and then back to the paper.
...They almost matched.
"Th...thank you," he got out as he smiled, carefully undoing the tape in order to preserve the paper. He figured he could use it sometime, since it was a good piece.
It didn't take him long to get the paper off of the box, somehow managing to fold it up and slip it into his pocket for the moment. Pulling off the lid, he placed the top underneath the box, shifting the tissue paper to the side as he reached in and took out the contents. As Demare picked up what was inside, the box grew unbalanced and dropped onto the floor, luckily landing on its bottom.

The contents of the box revealed a large kimono, with shades of brown and gold billowing down the fabric. A pattern of curves was pressed into the cloth, as well as white embroidery along the sleeves to match. A matching obi was folded, hidden inside the folds of the garment. Along with it, a bag of chocolates was placed inside --- a couple homemade, those which Mayu had deemed edible, and the rest store-bought.
Mayu moved to pick up the box from the floor, keeping her eyes down to try and hide the blush on her face. What if he didn't like it?
"D-do you like it?" she finally forced herself to ask, bracing herself for the truth.

He was speechless. Carefully, he unfolded the garmet so that it could hang down, catching the sash and chocolates before they could fall onto the floor. It wasn't that he didn't like it... The material was beautiful, and chocolates were always good.
He just had no idea what this was.
"I... Mayu, it's lovely," Demare told her, shifting the items in his hands so that he could hold the garmet up with both hands. It sort of reminded him of what she was wearing. "But... what... is it?"
He felt stupid and horrible at the same time. To him, it looked like a robe, but he knew it couldn't have been that simple.

"You... don't know what it is?" she smiled, brows turned upward in a slight frown. Well, at least he didn't hate it.
"It's a kimono, like the one I'm wearing," she explained, spinning around to show Demare. "It's a traditional Japanese garment."
Mayu placed the box to the side, tugging on Demare's arm slightly to signal him to follow her. She had pictures in her room, those would explain much better than she could do with words.

A kimono...? Wait. Japanese?? He felt even more embarressed now, having never really realized that Mayu was...
"I'm... I'm sorry," he apologized, turning a deeper shade of red as she led him off. "I didn't... I never knew. Mom used to be really into that stuff a while back, but she never showed me any clothing if she had any."
He thought for a moment, noticing how the garmet kind of reminded him of Mayu's normal outfit.
"How come I've never seen you wear one before?"

"It's okay," Mayu replied, swinging her sleeves as she quickly ascended the stairs. "It's always nice to learn something new about a culture, right?"
She turned quickly into her room, waiting for Demare to come in before shutting the door. If the downstairs was quiet, then the upstairs was absolutely chaotic. The sugar rush that most of the household was on was apparent, with loud yelling coming from two of the rooms and loud music playing from another to counteract the voices. Even with the door closed, they would still be able to hear the noises clearly.
The Legend grumbled something, nodding her head in apology to Demare before shuffling over to the bookshelf in the corner.
"Well, this one is pretty fancy, so I save it for special occasions," Mayu said as she flipped through a large book of pictures. "But it's really a hassle to wear these because they're so long and kind of heavy. The yukata that I wear most of the time is kind of heavy because of the sleeves, but the skirt is cropped so it's easy to run and jump around."
She flipped to a page of color pictures showing men and women in extravagant kimonos. The child propped the book up in her arms to show Demare, struggling slightly to keep it open as it was so big.

Noticing Mayu was having trouble with the book, Demare scooped it up into his own arms, shifting the kimono he was given to rest on his shoulder as he dropped down onto one knee so that the girl could tell him about what he was seeing. The clothing was beautiful, the colors bright... It looked difficult to him, but at the same time, it seemed so simple.
"Is it... warm?" he asked curiously, recalling how she mentioned it was heavy. The weather was a little warm outside, and he was a bit concerned with them getting too hot.
