Elements:
Earth is the element of stability, form, binding, and manifestation. Earth is traditionally linked to the color Green. Earth is represented by the North Cardinal point.
It is also the element of fertility, both literal and figurative, and therefore of pregnancy, growth, birth, material gain, business, prosperity sustenance, and creativity. As the element from which came and to which we will return, earth is the element of death and rebirth, beginnings and endings, and silence.
Air is commonly associated with mental activity. Air is traditionally linked to the color yellow, although many use light blue as Air as well. Air is represented by the East Cardinal point. Many use incense or a feather as a more direct representation of Air.
It is also the element of youth, creativity, and spontaneity, and of communication and travel.
Fire is the element of creation, extreme emotions, life, and destruction. Fire is traditionally linked to the color red, some also use orange or yellow. Fire is represented by the South Cardinal point. Some traditions assign elemental Fire to the ritual blade because the blade was forged in Fire. Other traditions assign it to the wand because of the use of wood as a torch.
Water is the element of regeneration, renovation, and dissolution. Water is traditionally linked to the color blue, usually dark blue. Water is represented by the west Cardinal point. Water is represented by the chalice.
Water is the element of wisdom, clarity, and common sense, especially that which comes from experience. It is also the element of emotion, intuition and divination. It is the major element of healing, and also contains aspects of transformation and purification, and can also represent death and rebirth.
Spirit is the fifth element. It is the subtle spiritual essence that pervades all space. It is not ether itself, but is an ether-like substance of a spiritual rather than material nature. Spirit is linked to white, in it’s pure form. Spirit is not represented by a cardinal point, for it flows within and throughout everything and everyone.
Pentacle (a pentagram (five-pointed star) inside of a circle) The pentacle represent the five elements. The upper point represents spirit, and the four remaining points symbolize earth, air, fire, and water.
