So I'm sure that everyone has had a few days at work when it's really slow and there is nothing left to do, or you don't wanna do the only thing you can think of doing.
I was curious as to how other people deal with this, or what you do to amuse yourself to pass the time???
Since it's the time of year where we are getting in new products, and getting ready to re-set all the products, there are lots of new things to look at. And being it that I work in cosmetics, and cover in heath and beauty there are lots of creams and shampoos that are changing. This of course peeks my interest so I just have to look at them. And this may sound strange to hear but I actually smell them, lol people look at me strange but then I bet that they would do the same thing if no one was looking.

when i worked in a restaurant it was pretty quiet during the day so we made up this game using old bottle caps and a tea towel. Basically, one person would throw the bottle cap in the air and the other person would use the tea towel as a whip and try and whip the bottle cap across the room
mrgreen it sounds weird now, but it was fun

It was usually really busy at Pizza Hut.
And when it was slow, you cleaned.
If you didn't want to do either, you basically just stood around talking to other people, or stealing some food.
Or, if you were smart like me, you took care of the cut table.
Cuz when it's slow, you just stand there twirling the graspers around whistling... or folding boxes.
Man, I miss folding boxes. crying
But I trained people well.
By the end of my time there, I had told most people my secret to getting through the day and soon EVERYONE was fighting over the cut table.

At maccas, when there was nothing to do we stocked. When there was nothing to stock we cleaned. When there was nothing to clean, we cleaned some more (spray & wipe wall tilles - no joke!- scrub the drinks machine, spray & wipe the stainless steel, if that was already done, then "whitestuff" it etc).
All the funny stuff that happened was when we were busy. Eg: I was on drive thru with another girl ('Brosia, for Red_Angelz), & we kept missing the drive thru timer... but not at the same time, so either I'd hear it but she wouldn't, or she'd hear it, but I wouldn't (there were a lot of noisy people on shift). So we came up with a plan: as soon as one of us heard it we'd start singing a song & the other one would join in to confirm. Eg instead of saying "car" (ie: car in drive thru) & "ok", the first person would start singing & the other would join in. We didn't tell anyone else what we were doing, because we were kinda bored & everyone else on shift was chatting loudly to each other & ignoring us, so we wanted to annoy them. We decided that the song would be "The wheels on the bus", because it was the most appropriate.
So, whenever a car came through: Her: (loudly) " biggrin The wheels on the bus go 'round & 'round biggrin !" Co-worker: " scream Wtf??? What are you on about?" Me: *Joining in*" biggrin 'Round & 'round, 'round & 'round! biggrin " *running off to go take the order*" Co-workers & customers: confused stare sweatdrop question Us: biggrin blaugh heart
A manager eventually asked us what we were doing & we explained it to him... his response: "Well, as long as it works, keep it up!"

That's awesome. Right now when it's slow we talk or sometimes they'll let us watch tv. And lately I've been reading when I get the chance. Pretty soon here I'll have some course development things to keep me busy, might even start those today. eek

It really depends which managers are on shift, I'm not allowed to run the shift by myself untill next week, so I always have someone on with me. If it's a fairly relaxed person then I'll usually muck around with crew, making up games (usually water fights) etc. But if the other manager on is really a**l & stuff then everyone just has to clean, by the end of it people are just cleaning random stuff that either never gets cleaned or doesn't need to be cleaned just because there's nothing else to do that doesn't get you in trouble.

When I worked at BaskinRobbins, when it was the winter time(which is our slowest time of the year) I'd go in the freezer and meditate, comming out here and there to make sure I had no customers.
I stopped after a while because my boss didn't like me being in the freezer for 2 to 5 mins at a time without wearing my hoodie or the shop's eskimo coat.

I usually walk in circles at my check stand. People look at me funny. sweatdrop
Also, I like to collect the little plastic thingys that hold the bags together, and then we have a little "who can throw these things accurately contest" with the trash cans. Or, if no one wants to play, I throw them at my manager, who proceeds to beat me over the head with a clip board. Lol, I love my job.
