I heard on the news that there was a woman who was beaten because she had been dating a man whose wife had been in a vegetative state for 17 years. Both were well aware of the situation. The wife died, and the girl who had been dating the guy came to her funeral to support the guy. She was beaten up by the wife's side of the family.

Discuss:
Is it considered "cheating" to do that?

How does being in a vegetative state change things?

Should the woman be condemned for dating the guy?

I personally think that when you are that alone with grief, there's nothing wrong with finding love. They had only started dating the past two years of the wife being in a vegetative state.

I think they were in their right mind. There's not much you can do if your wife is vegitated... You can give her all the love you want, but she isn't going to return it. The man still showed up to the funeral to give his final respects and his girlfriend was there to support him. The family had no right to beat the woman up because she was there as an emotional crutch and had nothing to do with the wife. They should've directed their attention to the man. Yet he had to go through having his wife vegitated for 15 years. 15 years is a long time, and you can get very lonely and depressed in 15 years rofl dramallama wahmbulance burning_eyes cheese_whine domokun blaugh xd twisted rolleyes talk2hand heart pirate idea mrgreen

True, true. But would it matter if, say, she had only been in a vegitative state for a year or two and then they guy started dating? OR, what if she had only been in that state for a couple months? Does the time make it different?

BTW, what's with the mass amounts of emoticons?

Hmm...
I think time matters to a point. If its been more than few months, with no change or hope of recovery, its time to pull the plug. You need to let go. Its healthy. The girlfriend fell in love with the guy, and he loved her. That doesn't mean he stopped loving his wife, he just stopped being in romantic love with her. Its hard to be romantic with someone who doesn't move or even think. Its like loving a doll.

True, true. But, if you were there, and had seen the family of the wife beating up the girlfriend, would you have felt sympathy for them? They defended themselves, saying that they were temporarily insane and in a state of grief...and that they had every right to take it out on the girl.

There is no sympathy for waht they did. They ganged up on an innocent girl. They all deserve a far worse punishment then whatever they are receiving.

I agree. Hey, everyone, why do people always get off with the "I was temporarily insane" deal? Why does it always work? I mean, here I am at school having to think up new excuses every day! The people in this case jus tsaid they beat her up because they couldn't handle to grief anymore.
