The day was just begining, but already the small female had started exploring. Dawn was the best time to get around, after night! No one was around (at least, not too many) and you didn't have to worry about annoying adult questions. 'Where is your mother?' and 'Should you wander this far alone?'

Siri wrinkled her nose and hopped off of a small rock onto the dusty path below. Big lions thought they were so great! Well, she could be just as strong and amazing as them! The purple female trotted clumsily along the trail and grinned. Someday, they'd all realize how great she really was!

"An' then I can go wherever I want, whenever I want! Away away away, far far far!"

Siri chirped and sang as she pranced down towards the flat plains. The sun had just barely begun to show over the brightening horizon, but already the cub could feel it's hot rays on her back. Maybe a trip to the water hole would be good today!

Singing softly, the cub pricked her ears and prepared herself for a day of exploration and adventure. Just perfect!

After a very early morning meal, Ruffian had taken the time to clean herself near the watering hole that was much further out from the central area of the pridelands, Pride Rock. It was quiet out here, and the early morning was one of the best times to do what you wanted, since not too many were awake when the sun's rays broke over the horizon.

Ruffian's ears perked as she heard a voice. Well, was it a voice? She wasn't certain, for all it could of been a bird chirping away at another, or a hare hopping through the grasses. So instead, she kept up at her cleaning, even though she was nearly finished. No point in not finishing what you started, right?

Farfarawaaay!Awayawayaway!

Siri hummed to herself as she pranced down the slope and towards the closest water hole. No one was in her way now, and no one was asking her annoying adult questions. The grass felt good against her paws, and she loved the way it was almost tall enough for her to hide beneath. Crouch and pounce! That's what Mama said. And when --

Whoa.

Putting on the brakes, Siri came to a sudden halt and stared hesitantly at the large black female. Well, large to her. For a moment the cub thought the lioness had heard her; she breathed a sigh of relief when the female began her bath again. For only a moment the youth considered leaving, but then a better idea came to mind.

The grass here, after all, was a little taller.

Crouching low, the female crept forwards until she was directly behind the washing lioness. Siri wiggled, tensed, focused, and punced.

"Raaaawr!"

Ruffian's head jerked up as she felt the little pokes and pains of claws digging into her skin. She gave off a low growl as her body swayed away from the attacker. Though she had certainly gotten pounced, the little cub was too small to knock her off her feet, and instead just pushed her to the side. The little one's claws had indeed hit the lioness, though not deep enough for blood.

Tense and angry that she had been bothered, the lioness shot a glare at the cub, her tail lashing behind her. "Find that funny, cub?" Though there was no hint of a growl in her voice, there was irritation. She would do no harm to the little brat, but she certainly would show her displeasure.

Gee, -someone- apparently woke up on the wrong side of the rock today! Siri flopped back, somewhat suprised (and slightly offended) at the older lioness' obvious irritation. She wasn't -too- concerned though; she knew what made most adults cave, after all.

A bright tear sprang up in her eye and tracked a course down her chubby cheek. Pretty purply ears drooped and her lip quivered. Siri blinked, swallowed back her sobs (gallantly, she thought) and peered up at the dark female.

"I'm s-s-sorry!" She cried tearfully. "I just w-wanna p-play!"

Had she overdone it...? Naw. Seemed good enough. Casting her gaze down towards the grass in imitation of absolute dejection, Siri watched from the corner of her eye for the female's reaction.

The dark lioness' brown eyes shrank to slits as she studied the little cub. She knew just what she was doing, so why was she crying about it? The lioness gave her tail a snap before she spoke, letting the cub know of her errors.

"If you just wanted to play, you ask." Her tone was firm, but she strayed from using a growl again. Just what made cubs assume that everything was a playtoy? The lioness sighed before settling down to stoop over the sniveling runt. Well, she acted sorry, but was she?

Straaaange.

Siri peered up at the dark lioness, her eyes still wet with tears. This time her gaze wasn't soulful and begging, though. Siri was intrigued. Apparently tears and cries didn't work on everyone. A smile twitched at the cubs mouth and her tears dissapeared as fast as they had come.

"Reeeaally? You would play with me if I asked?" The purple girl climbed to her feet and toddled over to the larger lioness. Plopping down at the older female's side, Siri lapped at the water and then shifted her gaze back to Ruffian.

"Were you playin' in the water? Would you show me? Is it a game?!" The cub whipped her tail around in excitement.

Ruffian's ears flopped onto her skull in irritation. Why were cubs so loud? So annoying? Always so hyper? She just didn't get it. She sure as hell wasn't this bad when she was a kid, no way. Her brown eyes peered down at the little cub, the black lioness lowering her head to get a better look at the cub.

"Well....I could show you, but you might not like it." She grinned for a moment before letting it dissolve back into her face. "Plus it could be booooring." She tried to tease the cub, just to give a little bit of...attitude back.

Tss. Anything that adults said was boring was -certain- to be fun! They always got everything mixed up, and the never wanted cubs to have fun! Siri glanced at the dark lioness and was fairly sure that she was one of the never-have-fun adults. Yeeeep.

Always 'do this!' and 'NONONO!' and... well, anyways.

"Yesyes! I wanna see!" The cub chirped and sat up as straight as she could, perking her ears. Maybe if she asked nicely? It was worth a shot. She could be good! ... sometimes.

"Pleeeeease?"

Ruffian grinned. She decided that she liked this cub. She had an attitude, and knew what she wanted, trying her best to get around little emotional loopholes to get it. It wasn't the best habit, and would certainly be a mess when she grew up, but Ruffian could forgive a little cub for that. And besides, she might never be one of those weak, whimpering females that Ruffian just didn't understand.

"Well, good. I'll show you, but first you've got to close your eyes, got it?"

Close her eyes? ... was this a triiiiick? Siri hesitated, eyeing the lioness suspiciously. Maybe when she closed her eyes the dark female would just leave, and then she'd be all alone again. Just thinking about it made her sad! The cub considered... and decided that no-one was THAT heartless! She'd just have to prove herself and put her trust in her new friend.

"Okayokay!" The purple girl squinched her eyes shut and braced herself. Wow! It would be such a great suprise! ... why would you have to close your eyes? It's water! She should be able to see what she's doing! Oh well... maybe it had to be set up. Yeah!

"Ready! I'm ready!" She squealed, nearly vibrating with excitement.

Ruffian grinned as the little cub did as she said, even with a bit of hesitation. Well, it was a little dangerous to just...trust a stranger like that. The black lioness couldn't believe that she got her to close her eyes just like that!

Not that she would do anything mean....not at all.

With a smirk, she slipped up to the purple cub, whispering in her ear to keep herself veeeery still. With a little flick of her tail, the lioness gave the cub a nudge, hopefully hard enough to push her into the water without too much trouble or force. She wanted to tease the cub, not directly hurt her.

Siri squeezed her eyes shut and shoved her face into a serious expression. This wasn't something to laugh about! She had to pay close attention now! Otherwise she might miss something. When Ruffian whispered in her ear she accidentaly let a giggle slip out. It tickled! ... and she was so excited she could barely contain her grin anyways.

Hold still. Hooooolding still. Still still still!

Nothing.

Siri couldn't stand it anymore. She cracked one blue eye just a bit, a mischevious smile creeping across her face. Just in time to see Ruffian's tail come flying at her! Whaaaaat?

"Eeeeeeeeek!" It was just enough to knock her off balance and into the cold water. Sputtering and flailing, the cub didn't notice that the water wasn't -that- deep; all she noticed was that she couldn't seem to find the shore. Water got in her eyes and blinded her and she panicked.

"Helphelphelp! I can't swim!"
PostPosted: Thu Mar 22, 2007 7:46 pm

Oh gods. Is she doing it again?

Ruffian really couldn't tell if the cub was faking it this time, but she didn't want to take any chances. No. That would just be stupid. So instead, she gave off a sigh before nearing the water's edge, peeking at the cub as she flailed around. Seemed real enough. The black lioness' tail swished behind her as she was getting ready to slip back into the water. Gods, she had just gotten clean, and here she was, getting all wet again.

She took a step forward into the water. Simple enough. But all the spashing had made a certain weak area of the edge a bit weak, and as she placed her other forepaw there with her weight, the earth gave, and the dark lioness herself took a tumble into the water, landing not so gracefully next to the cub. Coughing herself, the lioness pushed her head to the surface, wincing a bit. Damn it. She managed to hurt herself a bit, and that just sucked. She stood into the water, the surface just reaching below her neck, moreso to her chest. She was close enough to be used as a raft, though she wouldn't be a happy one, that's for certain.

Siri snorted, coughed, and inhaled more water. The wave from Ruffian's plunge into the pond hit her and dunked her under again. She was drowning! Her blue eyes opened wide in the murky water and she could -almost- make out the dark form of the lioness in front of her. Or was it a crocodile? Her head breached the surface again and she gasped.

"Helphelphelp!"

Flailing paws came into contact with something nearby - something soft and wet and -warm-. Scrambling, she draped herself over the lioness and lay there trembling. As her panic subsided and her wits returned, she felt a flush of embarasment warm her face.

She was so clumsy. Now the black female probably thought she was really stupid! Tears mixed with the water that ran down her face.

"I'm sorry!" She cried, burying her face in the lioness' dark fur.
