Wambli kited through the clouds, her dark wings held steady at her sides. She let the winds determine her route. When she grew to near the ground a few wingbeats would take her back up to a height where she could once more glide along, simply enjoying the feel of the wind and the sun's warmth. I always feel closest to the spirits when I fly, she mused and she descended once again. I wish that Jewel could share this feeling with me.Seeing that the wind's whims had brought her near the large meadow near the village Wambli decided to land this time. Perhaps 'Kala and my granddaughter will be around, she thought with delight. Or maybe some of the young ones that are new from the baskets would like to hear some stories. The gold and black mare rarely admitted it but she sometime wished for another foal of her own. The young ones were so fun and full of curiousity and she loved being around them!

Laughter, high-pitched and giddy, rode the wind as though on wings. It was light laughter, the laughter of a child who was loving life and didn't care who heard, who WANTED to be heard. And indeed, given the temperament of the child in question, that was highly likely.
Saiena raced through the meadow, her purple and blue body almost completely hidden by the tall grasses around her. She loved to run, loved it with all her being; ever since she'd managed to stand upright she'd been moving, moving, moving. And why not? Unlike her papa, she didn't have wings; the only way she could move was on foot, and move she did.
Today was another glorious day; she had gotten to go out exploring with her father, and he'd agreed to race her; and since he always flew, she was MUCH faster than he was on foot; she'd left him in the distance, a mere speck, and that knowledge was what was making her laugh. How she loved this!

Wambli touched the ground gently, furling her wings to her sides. The tall grasses tickled her belly as she walked slowly along.
The sound of lighthearted laughter caught her attention and she tried in vain to see over the grasses. The wind moved over the meadow so not even the movement of the blades would be of any help to her.
"Hello?" she called out softly.

Saiena was still laughing, still running, when the sound of an unfamiliar greeting caused her to almost lose her balance.
It wasn't her papa; she knew her papa, and that wasn't him. It sounded like a lady, but she hadn't seen a lady; then again, the grass was so tall that it made sense she couldn't see! And it was awfully mean of the lady to talk to her while hiding.
Saiena looked around for a mere moment, frowing a bit at the lack of visuals, then all at once jumped straight up, looking around for the speaker. "H'lo? Hellooooooo?"

The sight of an adorable filly bouncing up like a rabbit answered the question of where the laughter had been coming from! Deciding to answer in kind, she leapt upwards and gave one beat of her wings so she was clear of the grass.
"Hello, again!" she called out before landing again in the same spot. "I'm Wambli," she said from her hidden place in the grass. "Shall we play 'find me if you can'," she asked with a laugh in her voice.

Saiena had been on an up bounce when Wambli had made her appearance, and the rounding of the filly's eyes was proof enough she'd seen the mare. If that wasn't enough proof, then hopefully the awe in her voice was a giveaway; another adult who was willing to play!
"Wow, really? That'd be fun, so very very fun! But you've got wings; no using your wings cause I don't have wings and it wouldn't be fair otherwise!" This was all spoken in one rapidfire sentence, the foal's excitement almost palpable. "And I bet I can find you cause I"m a good finder; my papa says so! And I'm Saiena, nice to meetcha!" The last bit was tacked on almost as an afterthought...which indeed it was.
"I'm gonna find you!" And then she was plowing off through the grass.

Wambli bit back a giggle of her own at the filly's response.
"Maybe you won't!" she answered back, then took off herself through the grass. She knew her larger size was going to work against her in this game but thought she had a solution to that particular problem. There was a small hollow not far from where she was - if only she coud get to it!
She kept her wings tight against her sides, not noticing when one covert feather came loose and drifted to the ground. Walking quietly and quickly she made her way to the lee and lay down in it, tucking her head & legs against her side so that she blended into the shadows there.

Like a rabbit or a deer, Saiena took a little leap into the air every few steps, trying to see if she could spy the black and yellow. She'd thought it would be easy to find the mare, large as she was...but all of a sudden it seemed like she was all alone in the field. But why?
Frowning, Saiena skittered to a stop and looked around, lips starting to form a pout when a bit of color suddenly caught her eyes. "A-HA!" And she all but pounced on the feather, a wide grin in place. "You were here! So I can find you!" Glancing around, she grinned and started to circle about, whuffling from time to time as she tried to smell the other mare. "Told ya!"

Oh no! Wambli thought, What a time to loose a feather! She lay as still as possible and hoped the wind would cooperate with her and not carry her scent to the filly.
Nature, of course, didn't understand the game and there were several inquisitive bugs who found the windmare long before the filly had a chance to.

Whuffling about in the grass, it didn't take too long for Saiena to catch a scent. Letting out a triumphant crow, she suddenly dove through the grass, beaming as she uncovered the older mare. "HA! I told you I'd find you, and I DID! You're not nearly as good a hider as I am a finder!"
And she was bouncing all around Wambli, her pride at her own ability evident. "You're good at hiding, but I found your feather and found YOU!"

Laughing freely, Wambli got up from her hiding place.
"You are a very good finder!" she agreed, "Though I am sure my feather getting away from me did help you a little bit! If you want to you can take that feather to the shaman or the leatherworkers and they can make something pretty for you from it - I have plenty of other ones!" She said with a grin and shook her wings a little bit to emphasize her statement.
"So, young Saiena, are you out here alone?" Wambli was just a little concerned at the thought of one so young wandering too far. There was still danger here no matter how safe the area around the village may seem.((the feather you can snag if you want, and I will be happy to make her a something to wear when she gets older as a gift smile ))

Grinning from ear to ear, Saiena nodded and tucked the feather into her ankle band. "It'll be like a trophy, cause I found you! And it's a pretty feather; you've got very pretty feathers. I've never seen a black lady before, though; are you always black, or did you fall in the dirt? Oh, and I'm here with my papa, only he's slow and hasn't gotten here yet."
Once again, the whole diatribe was delivered with rapid speed and a power of delivery that could almost litereally make one's head spin; she sure believed in talking fast! "My papa is really big, and he has wings too only he's blue an' white, not black an' yellow; we were racing, but he's slow so I won THAT race too!"
((Oh, that's so nice! *saves* By the way, this is my last post for a bit. My 40 minutes ended an hour ago! *sheepish grin* I'll reply again when I get back online 3nodding ))

Wambli's ears flicked forward at the talk of another wind. It was so rare that she got to meet another of her own kind! The rapid talk of the little one reminded her so much f her own 'Kala when she was that size. Maybe it was something that wind-related foals inherited somehow?
"And my coat is always this color... just as yours is always that lovely color. You know, my granddaughter is also purple, though she sparkles a little bit as well.
Who is your papa? I would love to meet him and tell him what a good finder you are!"
((thats ok, PAt got home and we had to go shopping for groceries & stuff!))

Well, that made sense. Just because she hadn't seen any black coated Soquili before didn't mean they couldn't exist; she hadn't seen a kalona before either, but knew THEY existed, after all...
"Ooh, she's sparkly? One of the stallions in my herd is sparkly, but he's blue. Dark blue, not light blue like me. I wish I was sparkly, but I like being spotted cause my spots make me think of flowers and I love flowers! Oh, and my papa's name is Safi, only I always call him papa cause he's my papa-"
"-Whom you don't seem to like listening to." This statement was punctuated by a light whap to Saiena's head with a blue-tipped wing as Safi suddenly pushed his way through the grass, having followed his daughter's voice to her current location. Giving Wambli a bright smile of greeting, it only took him a moment to give his daughter a stern look. "What have I told you about running off, Saiena?"
The filly hadn't been expecting her father to appear so suddenly, but that didn't mean she wasn't ready to take him on. Meeping in protest, she gave her father huffy look. "We were RACING, Papa; I HAD to run."
"True enough, but you didn't have to run off and worry me that you got stolen away by some unscrupulous person. And now that I find you, I realize you've been tormenting this poor mare! Really Sai, I'm apalled." Though his tone seemed to be censuring, Safi lifted his head and gave Wambli a slight wink, letting her know he was just teasing.

Wambli saw the wink and smiled in return.
"I'm afraid I had a little to do with her waywardness, Safi. A game of 'find me' does tend to take all of one's attention!"
She looked at the stallion before her. He was indeed a wind as Saiena had said. She had expected for him to be marked at least a little like his daughter and was a bit surprised when be more solid in tones. He reminds me just a little of Jewel, just not quite as handsome! she chuckled to herself, her thoughts as always turning to her dear lifemate. He certainly seems to love his daughter as much as Jewel loves ours!
