Damnit... damn that woman.

Nigel stewed all the way to Barton Town. He opted not to take the train that connected his home town of Durem to the smaller town. He was too mad and needed time to himself. Usually, he would have gone to see if he could find Ana, but he'd decided he didn't want his girlfriend worrying about him, let alone see him in a rather angry state.

He had found it this wand shoppe's location from Elysia. The Aeriment looked a little worried when he asked, but she'd told him anyway. Besides, if she hadn't told him, he would find out one way or another. He wanted to go to this shoppe that woman had spoken of and give them a visit of sorts. Who were these people just... pawning children off on stupid, unsuspecting people like Aiko?

He was rather, well, surprised when he came across a destroyed, demolished building.

...

Damn. What now?

Sometimes it was best to call in. Sort of. Not that Raja liked that Ianna women, or ever respected her. So what if what she'd said was true, which left him worried about that other comment, he didn't like her. The very idea of it... just giving someone a kid. What if he'd really just wanted a normal wand for magic, not that it had been the case, but what if?

It wasn't to say the man disliked the child who was half dozing on his shoulder, the delicate wings folded over the pale lavender fabric of her dress. Her hair was done up with a few ribbons hanging under where the braids were curled around the majority of her hair. A perfect little appearance that the man had spent much of the morning making just right. Not that Raja was some sort of perfectionist, it was just a distraction from life... in a way. Life was always so troublesome. Coming to bother you when you had other things to do. Other things to worry about.

Shaeria had onlyjust appeared it seemed, then Keanu had done something stupid. There was a lot to think about though, not just that. The holidays had hit like a storm, that was all that could be said. They'd hit, stuck, and done their best to leave the man baffled. Which was why the check up had taken so long to happen. Three months? Something like that.

But well... life wasn't done.

The infants pale eyes had opened slightly as they drew closer to where the shop would have existed a frown drawing across the girl's face until it tweaked into a sniffle of a whine. The young girl didn't know why, but something scared her... something she couldn't quite place. It was only getting worse by the moment and finally peaked as they turned the corner and the shop became visable. Or what was left of the shop anyway.

"Holy h-" Amber eyes widened as he starred at the empty space before taking a few more steps to see if maybe... he was just to far to see it right? Nope... still broken. Still missing. When had that happened?

It was the loud wail that likely stated their arrival more than Raja's somewhat breathless utterance. She hated it here, she hated it. The place felt wrong, bad... something wasn't right here. But understanding that wasn't something the infant could quite place, so she tried to commmunicate it in the most obvious way. A loud cry that was hushed after the initial noise. Not by any means of the parent by the child's nature, there was no reason for prolonging the noise. None... So only a quiet whimpering proved it hadn't been a simple whim.

It was enough though, at least to snap the man out of his brief shock. Quickly shifting the gelfling to tug the blanket he'd brought her in closer around her and trying to comfort the young girl. What could have happened..? With everything. The shop... and why was Shaeria crying? "Shh... it's ok, shh..."

Hands shoved in his pockets, the tall man turned around just enough to give the two behind him a half glance with crystaline blue eyes. Children screaming... how he hated that sound. Back home, there was always one kid screaming or the other. He was hoping that soon, it would end as Aiko wouldn't end up with any more kids.

And now this wand business...

Turning back around, he continued glaring at the debris with narrowed eyes.

"This was a shop of some sort, was it not?" He asked, his low voice in a monotone. "For wands, right?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 13, 2007 5:08 pm

It wasn't as if Raja enjoyed hearing children cry. Far from it, his hearing wasn't as good as say... Keanus, but it wasn't as bad as humans. The screech always gave him the idea that he'd be deaf someday. So it could have been worse? No one really liked it, did that? It was just that they made due until it passed. And swore never to ever pick up something on the ground again. No matter how tempting it might be.

Eh? Oh the guy had asked a question. He sounded like Haru with that silly 'I'm going to be emotionless' thing. Talking like that wasn't normal. Not in the least. Not that it was his business, or problem. He had enough to worry around really. "Yea... Some crazy nut named Ianna ran it, said that kiddies came from sticks." He carefully shifted the child in his arms still silently trying to stop the whimpering. "I was coming by to tell her that the stick decided it was tired of being a ghosty puff that made people think I was a druggy." It really had been akward getting all those odd looks when he talked to a little ghost thing on the wand. Mind you, it seemed to like the conversation, but that wasn't the point. Talking to Ghosty Shae had earned him the title of druggy that was high on crack. So he was actually rather thankful it was all over.

Now then, back out of the wonderful world of memories onto the subject of the guy. Why was he here looking for the shop? Maybe he knew something? A few quick steps forward as curiosity once more proved to get the better of the man. "Soo... did that woman chuck a stick at you too?" Not that they were all bad, but it just went to prove that Ianna loved tormenting people who shouldn't be parents. "Cause I wouldn't be surprised if-" And then he realized something. Being a bit further away had hidden it, but when he was closer it became rather obvious, especially when he was craning his head up to try and have a conversation. "Jeezus you're tall..." That couldn't be normal. What was he? A foot taller than him!?

(Raja is 5"10' just for reference.)

Normal, perhaps, for people who weren't Nigel. He had the look of someone who would deny having much, if any feelings. The goth sub-culture was just odd like that. While he wasn't completely devoid of any emotion (hell, the man had a caring girlfriend he turned to puddy around -- not that the other would know that), he wasn't about to show much, if any, in front of anyone he didn't know, especially someone that, as far as he knew, was nameless. Of course, everyone had a name, but as far as Nigel knew...

A green eyebrow lifted slightly. Already, he was liking the sound of this man's opinions on the entire situation: very similar to his own. And then he made the usual startled noises that most people made around him when they realized just how tall he was. Nigel smirked.

"Only a little tall, I've been told." And as soon as the smirk appeared, it was gone again. "Ianna, was it? Not me. The head of the house hold I've seem to become a part of." His nose wrinkled slightly in disgust, and he snorted. "Without asking much of that woman's position on being able to take in more children." It was more than clear he wasn't very happy about the situation.

Tall in the eye's of the man didn't mean much. He'd had... height issues... at one time. So he tended to exagerate a bit on the subject. Alas, the point remained. The guy was obnoxiously tall in his opinion. Which didn't sit the best with him, but there wasn't much to be done. The comment didn't help... but it gave him a reason to scowl a bit at the whole situation. At least until the obvious disdain for the woman came out.

Common ground was good, very good indeed. It did sweeten the previously somewhat sour mood quite a bit. "Of course she doesn't ask. She just says you're chosen and that's that." Which was more or less the case he'd been given. "Do you think I was in any position to take care of a baby?" He didn't need to explain, or felt he did. Certainly this man didn't know about the whole situation that was Raja's household, but he didn't need to. One word could sum up most of the trouble that could come of that house. Reikuri. No kid should live within three miles of that thing and yet the house could be called a kiddy daycare.

Not to say he'd have given the kids away if someone asked. Heavens no. Once the feline took something in as his own kin he was far to protective of the child, if not a bit moody about it. The thing was that he should never have ended up with the children in the first place. Seriously... something must have written 'I LIKE KIDS!' on his back in invisable ink with the luck he'd had. Maybe with the sidenote that he liked odd kids. Shaeria was normal compared to some of them. Like... Lyneas. Three fingers instead of four, wings... that was nothing compared to the perplexing ideas that the odd girl spouted on a daily basis. No not daily, minute... there was never a minute without some babble of her friends, the aliens, or something else he didn't care to think about. She took the cake for oddest ideas. That was for sure.

"Then again, seems like she's no different than a lot of people around here." A quick pat on the back for the child as she hiccupped slightly. "No one seems to care if you want a child. It's all fate this, fate that." He sighed, head slumping a bit. "Or just plain blackmail..." Oh yes... that had been fun to find out with D-Corp. They didn't take no for an answer.

Nigel shrugged. How would he know if the other man was in any position to take care of children? He didn't even know his name.

If he wasn't able to take no for an answer when it came to kids, perhaps he would get along just fine with Aiko. She would never in a million years turn a living being away when it obviously needed her help and was unable to go anywhere else. It's how he ended up with her, how more or less everything and everyone in her family ended up with her. 'They where wayward souls that were brought to me to take care of,' she had told him once. 'Who am I to turn them away?'

Of course, they had quickly run into the problem of running out of places to house children. Ten rooms were currently needed to keep the members of the family happy. They had six. He didn't even want to think about the problems they had with having enough bathrooms to go around...

"Sounds about right." He snorted. Turning to the two, he sized (no pun intended) them up quickly with a few glances, then nodded politely. "The name's Nigel Agrippa. I, ah, live in the same household as Tenoh Aiko, who's come into the posession of a harpy wand."
PostPosted: Wed Feb 21, 2007 10:12 am

Well of course not, it was a rather rhetorical question. Or perhaps just the man's slight ego boasting. Because everyone should know about his problems right? Alas, such was not the case. At least that wasn't the problem to be a problem in the conversation. They both had an obvious disdain for a certain woman and it was to be a good day when he could rant about his woes.

Even if she had dumped a little sweetheart in his lap. Mind you, that didn't take into account the months of wand totage it had taken, but she was well behaved enough. Hopefully one of the other children didn't ruin that with time.

As for space issues. He knew that all too well. H'd actually spent a bit of time staying with Naito while there wa sa remodel. He hadn't really bothered to ask, seeing a smost hotels had a no dragon policy or had something against ill mannered harpy children... well... yea. Best to stay with the long time best friend. Besides, didn't Naito owe him for that time Paxton tried to traumatize Keanu? Needless to say the remodel had been in order, but that time staying at Naito's was a nightmare. At least everyone had a room of their own now. Or only shared with someone they wanted to. Such as the twins' case.

He nodded. It was right. This place was downright backwards. Everything from kids coming out of sticks to someone shoving a child in your arms. You just didn't get to avoid it usually.

"Nice to meet you Nigel. I'm Raja, and this is Shaeria. Shae for short. She's uh... well the kid I ended up with." Least they knew that Ianna woman wasn't a nutso? But then it hit... harpy wand. Oh gods...

A little smile curled on his lips as he realized what trouble that family might be in for. "Harpy huh... good luck with that." If the kid was anything like Arianna, ANTHING like her... they were going to regret the day they met Ianna forever. "Oh yes... good luck with that."

"Aiko knows how to take care of kids. She's just one of those women who know what children are thinking -- kinda acts like a child herself. But none of them were particularly, you know, magical in nature."

It was a fear Aiko herself had expressed when she explained what was going on with this wand thing she'd ended up with. Aiko had experience with magic, but only on the harmful recieving end; it was the reason her body had been scared the way it was, reason why she would never again wear short sleve tee-shirts or shorts. It worried the woman to no end. By all rights, she should have had at least some sort of magical ability, but the human genes of her mother squelched any hopes of that.

He nodded at the reply, quite pleased he wasn't in the man's position. For once, it seemed someone was as unlucky as he was. Just for a moment though. Then he recalled what all lay at home and reality set in. Everyone was kind of unlucky and lucky at the same time.

Kids were a blessing, right?

Though he snapped to attention as the man barely caught himself and saved his ears a lecture. Not his favourite word to have around his children, but not the worst. "Sadly I don't know where she is, or anyone. As I said, I was coming to see her myself and ran into the same problem as you." He shrugged eyeing the mess before listening to the next bit.

"Oh, then she's a lot better off than me." Honestly, he didn't think himself the best parent alive. He just tried. That's what counted right? "Well aside from the wand thing I don't think they're that magic. Shae isn't any different than other babies I've taken care of, so it isn't something you should worrya bout too much." Save for the fact they had a harpy. But their's wouldn't have had some awful past parent. So it probably wouldn't be as bad.

Nigel nodded slightly. If anyone knew how to take care of children, it was Aiko. She never had any kids of her own (and now was physically incapable, Nigel remembered with an inward growl; if he ever found who did that to her, he would kill them with no questions asked), but she raised three beautiful children easily and was working on her fourth with Celina, along with a slew of other various animals and creatures that needed to be taken care of. Even at the young age of twenty-three she came across to everyone as a very motherly, compassionate woman. Perhaps it was only natural for her to accumulate such a family.

But now, nature was starting to piss him off. There was only so many she could physically capable to take care of. This wand was perhaps just one too many. Hell, her most recient child of about five, Celina, slept in Aiko's bed for the lack of any other room to sleep in. The house was too small -- it was time to find another one. It was proving to be very difficult, as most of the larger places to live were already taken by the larger families of Gaia. Soon, she might have to start looking elsewhere for a place to live...

They would see.

Blue eyes found Raja again.

"Not really magical, huh? That'll probably put her mind at ease." But the creature was still a harpy. It (She's not a thing, he remembered Aiko hissing at him) probably would have wings or something of the sort. This would prove to be interesting, either way. How was Aiko going to teach her how to fly?

"Well, glaring at a pile of rubble isn't going to help the situation," he said on a sigh. "I should be getting back. There's plenty to do around the house." Like double their efforts to find a new home.

A blessing Raja would never have. If anything the man usually gave the impression of someone who'd had enough. It wasn't anger, but stress built up over time. He didn't have much of an outlet for it due to time constraints. He had work and his own homelife to keep in mind. So the buildup sat there until his temper sprang loose again, and no one really enjoys being aorund a ticking timebomb.

It was an obvious mistake that nature kept throwing things at him, certainly. "Yes... not so much." He'd seen worse. Definitely. "I'd assume as much. She is a mythical being, so there are obvious precautions to be taken." Such as getting heavy gloves and the like for avoiding multiple claw induced injuries. "I wouldn't be surprised if she did have wings, Shaeria only has three fingers, so obviously their origin does effect them greatly in this life." It was a true enough statement.

Then the man's comment. Ah, quite true. "You're right about that." He wasn't going to speaking to that Ianna women if that was all that was left of the place. "Best of luck with the child." He offered that much, seeing as he certainly couldn't say the child would be a piece of cake. No child ever was. "I should do the same myself, and Shaeria probably needs a nap." She was only an infant afterall. "It was nice meeting you." A formality really. He wasn't truly pleased about the encounter, not due to the other man, but more to the fact he hadn't been able to speak to that woman, which left him slightly bitter about the whole matter. As well as the fact he now had a reason to believe this was possibly, once again, a dangerous situation. Why would she have dissapeared? Honestly, the whole matter left him confused.
