Right, hi! First allow me to introduce myself... I'm Aki. Also known as Nephie. Call me as you wish :3 Secondly, I'm glad to be a part of this guild. I've read over several topics and can tell what a friendly community it is.
And now.. the nubbishness DX;;
I just recently purchased Animal Crossing: Wild World, but I have absolutely no clue how to connect it to Wi-fi without a friend code (or if that's even possible O_o) or how to "open the gate" as that tends to be a popular term in multiple threads... and then there's that whole telephone business which doesn't seem to work.
So, here are my questions:
1. Can you connect Wi-fi on Animal Crossing without having another persons friend code? (If no, would anyone liiiike to exchange friend codes? O.o)
2. What's the "open the gate" ? Or is that just a fancy term stating that you're online and accepting visitors?
3. How do you recieve letters from nintendo, or get the telephone to process your download request?
4. What the heck is a bottled letter for? I have one, but I can't seem to toss it in the ocean.
Thanks for your time, and please forgive my newbishness ^^; I know how to play the game, I'm just extremely unfamiliar with Wi-fi, since the only Wi-fi game I have is MKDS.

You can connect to Wifi without anyone else's friendcode, but it would be pointless, seeing you can't invite anyone or visit anyone else without the friendcode.

When you accept videos, you literally open your Town's gate so people can come in.
3. How do you recieve letters from nintendo, or get the telephone to process your download request?
You connect to Wifi every once in a while. To accept Downloads via Wifi, go to Continue and touch the phone. Touch "Downloads" and allow to recieve bulletin messages and letters via wifi.
4. What the heck is a bottled letter for? I have one, but I can't seem to toss it in the ocean.
You have to write something and go near the ocean to toss it. It will get to someone via Wifi...

1. You have to have the other persons friend code
2. Yes it means people can come to your town
3. you need wi-fi and changem settings with the telephone
4. not sure
where's all these new people coming from!!
anyways sorry that i can't come cuz i need the person to have a good rep first i have to be carefully with all the hackers around

Ah okay biggrin Thanks for all your help you two! heart It actually answered a lot of questions which I feel rather.. silly about right now XD

Okay. First off "Open the Gate" means that their town is open for visitor to visite the player town.
Now than, to connect to Wifi just talk to the dog at the gate (the one on the right as you enter) he will give you a friends code once you are able to connect to wifi.
Connecting to wifi is kind weird. If you have wireless signals going through a room or have mutlipale computers in your home and are getting BROADBAND internet to another computer than the DS can connect to it via wireless.
Once your DS can connect to the wireless signals you can go on wifi.
Talk to the dog once you have wifi and he'll make a friends code for you. It will be saved to your character and once you explore you menues you can acess your friends code. (Just select the tab that has a heart on it.) Than selesct the one with a key on it to see your friends code.
The only way Copper ( the dog on the right) will allow you to even open the gate is by having a friends code. The trick is, you can take anyones friends code so that it enables you to go online. But you'll never ever see the person or meet them untill you tell him or her that you have their friends code and would like to trade.
To get Nintendo goodies, well that's random. On special days and events Nintendo will do stuff, without telling anyone about it. You just have to be lucky to get the goodies. OR you can go online to many Animal Crossing websites and see if anyone talks about any Nintendo thing.
The bottled messages. All you have to do is buy one, write in it like a normal letter (anything you want) and toss it in a river or ocean. Now, if you go wifi, the bottle WILL go online and off your game. It will travel the WIFI ocean untill someone else goes wifi. They may pick up your messages or may not at all. Kinda like a real bottled message.

You can reorder them from the Catalog in Tom Nook's shop. Just talk to him and and say "Catalog, please!"
To get emotes, you have to have Dr. Shrunk visit your town. They're on the keyboard. You'll get them eventually. 3nodding
