This is the private RP for Sonia, owned by DareDelvil, and Kendra, owned by Lavandar. If you would like to join later, just notify one of us.
The area is of the usual kind. Located on a plateau in a mountain valley, there are fruit trees a plenty to provide satiety, and running water can be heard not far away. There aren't any ponds around, as it is such a small area, only one or two small streams. There are not many trees apart from the produce ones. Small game is probably never very far away, in one of the many bushes and brush patches. In either direction, the plateau is not much larger than a football field and half again.
Please, if you wish to participate in this RP, after being approved, be prepared to make lengthy posts, so checking back every few minutes is not necessary. Literacy? *Puppy eyes*

A quite large Modifox elder was ambling about. She took deep breaths of the crisp mountain air. The atmosphere seemed so thick you could slice it with a knife. The amount of air she took in almost choked her, and she sputtered it out with a great amount of effort. Walking carefully, the navy female crept up to a fruit tree, tentatively sniffing at the ripened berries the limbs yielded. She wasn't very hungry, but took a dark orb in her jaw anyway, closing her mouth and piercing the paper-thin skin layer of it with her sharp canines, letting the frozen cold juice seep over her taste buds. Rhetorical thoughts crept into her mind, prompted by the array of flavors coming into her tongue. The juice reminded her of many things, foxes she had met, places she had gone, and she didn't quite know why. Perhaps this medley of tastes was similar to that variety of experiences somehow. When the taste of it was all too much for her at last, she bent her neck down, and sampled some of the grass that poked up in every which way, such would suggest that the soil underneath them wasn't of the most stable kind. "Kind of bitter..." She muttered to herself, in a strangely declamatory tone. She gaited off, dissatisfied with the semi-atrocious flavor of the emerald grass blades. Apparently, they were much better looking than tasting, as she had been oblivious to before, and so the elder decided it best to leave them alone, for the grazing upon of smaller mammals.

A gust of wind picked up, almost, to the poetic mind, a herald of what was to follow. It snatched at blemished fur, tugged at long ears and delicate tail-tuft, chilled sensitive nose and, just for a moment, forced a squint into dark red eyes.
The scene was semi-familiar - like a dream, or a dream of a dream. Kendra had been a dream once, all piercings and smiles and elegant movements and smooth fur. Perhaps she too, wearing then the skin of a pallid little kit with staring red eyes and a quiet voice, had been part of the dream.
How much of that had been reality, and how much was misremembered? How much of that first fateful meeting had she twisted, shaped within her mind to suit her will? And it had been so long ago, or so it seemed, that she had first set eyes upon, wondered at, the deep blue vixen. All that considered, to think of it as a dream was somehow easier. Certainly it was a larger and more confident white fox who slowly approached the elder now, though the blood-like markings were familiar. Sonia, despite not being quite grown to adulthood, was beginning to come into her own: her skin felt both more and less familiar, and her limbs both stranger and more sure.
"Hail, Elder," she called softly, bowing her head in respect but letting the little smile show through to the surface. "May all gods and spirits smile upon you, if they can. How is't with you?"
Like the rest of her, the bloodied she-fox's poetry was gradually maturing.

The dark elder turned her head round. A familiar face was waiting there for her. Or rather a familiar back-of-neck, it was all Kendra could see of Sonia, as she seemed to be bowing in her presence. Kendra half-closed one eye at the white pup, and turned her head to the left, so the squinting eye and right cheek were facing Sonia, confused. Her words came out with an eloquence, art, and particular articulation thus unknown to Kendra. This kit had certainly been charming before, but now she seemed to have outdone herself in the realm of poetry. Her limbs seemed more awkward than before, she was blatantly growing. Kendra was beginning to wonder what Sonia would look like as she grew, what features she would most indefinitely acquire, when she realized some dialogue would be appropriate. "Hail, Sonia," Kendra replied, in an air she thought fit for the response. "Thank you, and may they smile upon you as well. I have been fine. Busy, but fine. And yourself?" Kendra completed the reply with inquisition, acknowledging fully Sonia's attendance now. Hopefully, there was no manifestation of Kendra's surprise towards Sonia's new elegant disposition.

Smile spreading a little, Sonia raised her head. "I keep as well as ever, I thank you," she answered, wondering if that glance Kendra sent her way was as appreciative as it seemed. "And I don't doubt that you've been busy - look at you! You've gone so far since last we met!"
She was as delighted as she sounded by Kendra's appearance, by the delicate beads and feathers at her head and the bold mark of the Lazuli crown on her hindquarters. The jewellery was new as well - tail rings, shining silver cuffs - and it suited the elder perfectly. "I'd heard tell, I admit," she continued, "of the Lazuli tribe, and marvelled at the talk of the beautiful Lazuli Queen. I never dreamed it would be you. I suppose I should have guessed, fool that I am."
For who better, she thought to herself, than this? The blue vixen's kind expression had never truly faded from her mind since the day they met. Perhaps Kendra had this effect upon everyone - perhaps every fox she met went away with a little fragment of her smile lodged into his heart.
"...I can't tell you how glad I am to see you again," she said softly, the demure smile turning into a little grin. "You made quite a first impression even back then - think how awestruck I might have been if you had looked like this!"

She watched as Sonia's smile grew, and once again the pup formed sentences with such an etiquette it set Kendra aback. What the blood-stained fox said was true, Kendra had grown quite a bit, and as she noticed Sonia looking at all the odds and ends that she had somehow now acquired, she graciously blushed. Kendra puffed her chest out proudly, and thrust her head upwards, as Sonia's eyes dabbled upon the Lazuli tattoo. It was too bad that this pup wouldn't be joining the tribe. Oh no, she was far too rambunctious for that. She would go off and create her own tribe surely; one that would grow and prosper, and hopefully form friendly ties with the Lazulis. Kendra was taken ever more by surprise by the thought that foxes had been speaking of her as - a queen - an honor she had never thought of possessing, but it seemed apparent now that others had. How strange it was, to be considered as such. It made her feel a bit embarrassed, and she hoped that nobody would think that this talk would inflate her ego. It was silly of Sonia to call herself a fool however, that was far from what she was.
Before she opened her mouth to speak again, Kendra made sure to lick absolutely clean of berry juice all her teeth, she didn’t want to seem uncivilized. Kendra gave a humbled half-smile and a small titter and replied, “It’s nice to see you too,” and decided to add in response to Sonia’s last comment, “You made quite an impression on me, too,” before sitting down and humming lilting tune that she thought she had heard a long time ago.

Settling down on the grass, listening to the melody, Sonia mulled Kendra's words over in her mind. She'd made an impression of her own? She could hardly imagine that - she'd been a foolish little scrap, even so late ago. And was the elder shy? Surely not. Surely she must be used to praise by now, surely she must be fairly surrounded by sycophants all wanting a piece of her favour, a scrap of her power, a morsel of meat from her illustrious table. So it was, she had been taught, with leaders.
The tune was unfamiliar, but the harmonies were not difficult to spot. Quietly, the blood-marked fox began to add a soft counter-melody to the notes that Kendra was humming. The two lines of music fitted neatly together, creating a fuller, richer whole.
Perhaps that was the kind of tribe she wanted, Sonia thought to herself. A tribe of creators. She knew she could feel at home among foxes who loved the arts, took music seriously, wove poetry into their lives.
But it saddened her to think that the Lazuli tribe, when led by such a glorious elder as this, were not the tribe she could come to call her family.

It took Kendra by surprise to discover that Sonia had been humming along with her. What shook her even more was that it seemed to her that the counter-melody had been going on for quite some time now without her noticing. With this realization, she stopped abruptly without knowing, and could have almost slapped herself for ceasing the beautiful noise that had been being made. She cleared her throat and shifted about awkwardly, then giggled a little and looked up at Sonia to see her reaction. Surely she wouldn't be angry with her for stopping, although Kendra couldn't help her mind acting out pessimistically sometimes. Hopefully this wouldn't make her seem callous...
After her shifting had ceased, Kendra glanced back at her tattoo once more, and was reminded of her immutable fidelity to the Lazuli Tribe. She smiled, not visibly, but in her eyes she could feel a twinkle rising. She looked back at Sonia and said, breaking the silence, "Rumors are going around that you're going to start your own tribe. Perhaps we could arrange for some sort of ties between our tribes...?" She pondered, more to herself than to the other fox, but found herself hoping all the same that Sonia would agree.

She'd put her off. Damn. Sonia stopped her quiet humming, feeling like a complete idiot. Why had she felt the need to interfere? It had been a perfectly good tune without her input -
...tribe?
The word, and its implications in context, sank in slowly, wiping the expression of awkwardness from her features as it did so. At first she knew not how to answer: were there truly such rumours abound? Who had begun them? Certainly not her, for she had never considered the possibility of becoming an elder herself - not beyond a passing fancy or an idle daydream. In any case, it wasn't true. ...Was it? What if she did start her own tribe? What if it was the only way forward? She had found no tribe thus far that would suit her most basic needs, let alone the city style of living that felt so natural to her now. Why not begin one of her own?
"...I had not heard such talk," she ventured slowly, smiling a little, "but perhaps I shall. Be assured that any tribe of mine should be at peace with the Lazuli. That at the very least I can promise you. Perhaps we might also agree upon trade - there is much in the Metropolis that a fox cannot find here, and vice versa - and maybe mutual support? Other tribes are growing up around us, and not all of them, I suspect, will be friendly..."
What tribe might she have? To whom might she offer membership, and at what price? How ought they to mark themselves, lead their lives? Thoughts raced through her head, questions going mostly unanswered, and she felt a grin spread across her face.
"I might like to have a tribe of my own," she said.

Sensing the awkward tension building around them, the Elder cleared her throat.
Kendra watched with simple pleasure as the fox before her slowly became increasingly more excited of the idea. It seemed such a revelation to her! Kendra couldn't help but smile slightly back at Sonia. But then, had she truthfully not thought of this more in depth? Kendra shook her head slightly, feeling a bit foolish for believing such rumors.
But just as she was shaking the idea from her mind, the other Modi` seemed to be growing keen on the thought of creating her own tribe. What was more, she sounded certain that if she did form one, the Lazuli and them would be on good terms. Kendra's mind relaxed a bit, and would of let out a sigh of relief, had it lungs of it's own. There was no more time for thought though, Sonia was continuing on, even if Kendra wasn't fully with her. Trade...Metropolis...Mutual support...The words and phrases flashed numbly past her, but faithful as it was, her mind had comprehended them, and her mouth was already moving in reply.
"Trade sounds like a smart idea, there will be many things that we can provide each other with that we would not otherwise have to access to, if you do indeed start your own tribe. Mutual support, as well."
The navy blue she-fox tipped her head a little at the last thought Sonia had just expressed; perhaps the tribes popping up would not all be friendly...This had not occurred to Kendra yet, and it worried her slightly. Thinking of it almost sent a cold chill down her spine, just the very notion of foxes banding together to cause havoc and terror to others made her sick. She secretly made a promise to herself not to let any foxes of this sort enter her tribe, no matter how open she wanted to be. Hoping that no tribes like this would emerge near the Lazulians, she snapped back into the present conversation.
As Sonia finished, Kendra nodded in agreement. "I would like you to have a tribe of your own, too."
Kendra winced at this, cursing herself mentally, the way she had phrased that, and the flat tone in which she had said it had sounded so...Strange and detached. She had been so absorbed in her own thoughts that she hadn't thought thoroughly through her statement, and so when it escaped her throat it was only half formed, only halfway through the thought process of being made. Kendra hoped to herself that Sonia did not think her comment as strange as she did.

...She didn't sound convinced. Sonia's grin faded a little. But why so? What could have put her off the idea when she had seemed so keen on it before? Why was she suddenly so distant, so detached?
The answer, of course, was right in front of her: moments later, it stepped up and smacked her sharply in the face. She almost winced. Eyes a little anxious, trying not to let her trepidation show, she looked directly at the dark blue vixen and carefully began to speak.
"...Kendra, had you...did you intend me for the Lazuli?"
She desperately hoped this was not the case. Wonderful as the elder was, to Sonia's mind at least, the blood-marked creature knew that she could never be truly at home among such a diverse group of foxes. She needed folk around her who would understand her devotion to creativity, join her in the expression of their unique artistic spirits - the Lazuli were no such folk. Not entirely, if at all.
And yet, trying to catch some hint of an answer in Kendra's eyes, she thought - just for a moment - that she might be able to make a life with the Lazuli, if only to keep her friend from melancholy.
