I tried to work on the blushing for my doll's faceup but something went wrong. It looked fine around the eye area, but when I moved out to the chin/jaw and sides of the face there were blotchy areas where sometimes the pastels would not stick and other times they stuck too much and were very dark. He ended up looking dirty rather than blushed..

Is it just something with the coating that's causing this? I used testors, sprayed outside, brought it back in immediately, and then let it dry in the bathroom, since it was 6C/40F outside. Could the cold have done it? I wasn't out there any longer than what was required for spraying.

Also, one last related question: are there any certain types of brushes that are better for putting on pastels for blushing? (like brush hair types, or whatever)

Argh, this is so frustrating. >_< I'm sure another coat would probably help, but if this is possibly from the cold, I'll have to wait until it warms again. Anything you guys can think of would be very helpful.’

She has some good ideas when it comes to blushing and using Testors.Thinning it like she did would probably be a good idea. I used to use Testors, but never found that it blushed very smooth anyways. I live in Florida, so I have no idea if cold is a problem or not xd Winter pretty much doesnt exist here. Moisture in the air has a big effect though. That could cause the problems you're talking about. Try spraying in a ventilated room rather than outside. I turn my bathroom into a spray booth when the weather isnt good outside.

I asked to do that once before and my parents threw a huge fit. So bathroom is a no go. I pretty much have no place to spray besides our patio. :< I'll see if i can try the warming-up-the-can thing, though. Hopefully something will work @_@; Oh, and thanks for the link! I'd had that bookmarked but completely forgot about it. XD’

Did you touch any area of the face that you're working on? If so the colors might be going on uneven where the oils from your fingerprints are smudged.

Best wishes getting things to work out!

Yeah, that happened in one spot; I could clearly see a fingerprint in the blush. >_<;;; I hadn't known about that before, so I will keep that in mind from now on for sure. @_@ I think the other spots were just where the spray didn't coat it well. I did another layer of spray, and the pastels went on ok this time. (^^ It was about 50F outside that time, so I think the cold had nothing to do with it, except for making me rush to spray and get inside. (^^;;

Thanks for the help, you guys~’

Make certain you clean the resin before hand with a mild soap and water or an agent (like Winston & something or other Acrylic paint remover >_>) + mild soap...once that is done, wash YOUR hands thoroughly. The oils from your hands can interfere with the sealant and/or pastels settling properly and cause blotches like you were describing.

When spraying testors make sure the following:

While preparing the head to be sprayed it is being warmed somehow (NOT IN A MICROWAVE O_O; Just in the whole compressed can thing. explosions = bad) I usually sit on it or something similar. It should be room temperature or slightly warmer.

SHAKE LIKE A FIEND. The better shaked the can is the better a spray you'll get.

Spray from a bit of a distance. If you spray too close it's no good.

Make sure the whole head is coated

Make sure the whole head is TOTALLY dry. If not botchy may occur.

Make sure your brushes are clean and don't have too much excess pastel powder on them.

Hope that helps
