Ok when you write a sentence I know that you use Katakana for loan words and what not, but when do you use Kanji and Hiragana because on my PSP I use it to write things in Japanese and when I do it gives me a bunch of different ways to write a certain word.

Kanji is used for many, many native words and kana is used for adjective and verb endings as well as many other native words.

Generally, I would say if you don't know for sure what the kanji is for a word, don't use it. Because there are often many different kanji that correspond to hiragana phrases, you can easily botch a meaning by using the wrong kanji. If you stick to hiragana, you may want to separate your words with a space or something so it's easier to read, but people should be able to understand what you're saying.

Kanji will replace parts of words, or act as whole words, depending on the situation, but usually you will need to know what kanji you're putting, as the computer will give you many.

I would stick to hiragana first if you're unsure about what you're typing.

Sometimes people also make spelling errors too, which may cause a misconversion as well.

Yea, if you just use the first kanji the computer gives you, you could come up with something ridiculous if you don't know what it means.

As a rule, I only use a kanji on the typing program once I already know it and can recognize it. Everything else is in hiragana.
