It was dark. The eternal bliss of silence was bestowed upon the cat-like creature. She felt nothing, thought nothing, saw nothing. If only the peacefulness that blessed her could stay. But no, it could not. She felt it retreating from her unconcious mind and as much as she willed the darkness to stay it ignored her. She was soon aware of the unpleasant feeling of being cold. Really cold. Really, really cold. Eyes fluttered open slowly only to meet a sheet of pure white. Her thoughts were not collected as of yet and thus she did not recognize where she was. Staying still for a few moments she realized it was freezing out! She blinked her piercing blue eyes a few times and raised her head from where it rest atop her paws. Her head instantly poked through a sheet of snow that had settled over her entire body. Being blasted by a gale of icy wind she rose causing a small avalanche of snow to tumble off her back and hind quarters. "Eep," she mumbled, surpressing the shiver that wanted to make its way down her spine. It appeared she had fallen asleep! Well she was wide awake now and COLD! She was soaked from head to toe and the wind that was picking up at a rapid pace didn't help things. She sneezed and blinked with a gloom expression. She hoped she wouldn't catch a cold. She examined the icy bark of the tree she had fallen asleep near. Then she peered at the dead grass beneath her body. Her body heat melted the snow as it touched the wilted blades. She sighed, watching as a cloud of white emmited from her maw.
Winter was her least favorite season. Everything was dead and white. She couldn't wait for spring to arrive! She stretched her wings and watched as a shower of snow that still clung to each of her feathers drifted to the ground. Settling them back against her back she gave her lithe figure a good shake. Her bones ached as if she were old. She curled her feathered tail around her body. It didn't help her retain any more body heat though. Could it get any worse?! She was cold and wet. Her ears perked up at the sound of creaking just above her. "Mm?" she inquired quitely to herself, tilting her head upwards to the canopy of tree branches. She had scarecely a moment to collect her thoughts before the weight of the snow became too much for the branches and slipped off them. Their target below? Atsuko, of course. She was buried instantly under a hefty mound of the white powder with only half of her tail sticking out of the side. It twitched furiously before the bundle of purple and green fur leapt clear of the snow. "I hate the snow!" She proclaimed in her airy voice that was not yet deep with age. Her paws carried her nimbly across the thick layer of snow that settled over the ground. She didn't know where she was running too but she knew if she kept moving the snow couldn't settle upon her pelt. It couldn't 'win' against her. Her breath steadily became labored, the puffs of white rising into the air from her agape mouth becoming more frequent.
She let her beryl eyes wander to the heavens, her pace slowing down. The blue sky she knew and loved was masked by thick clouds of grey and a drizzle of snow poured from them all the while. She finally stopped, her panting rather harsh. She had found a nice clearing in the midst of the small forest to sit in. No trees, no more snow. A rumble in her stomach signified her oncoming hunger. "Great," she muttered, her already foul mood worsening. She let her tail curl around her and her haunches sink into the snow. As soon as she found her breath she'd have to search for food. Which seemed impossible. The parts she was in were quite unfamiliar. Not being the adventerous type she never strayed too far from the cave she inhabited to the west. Then again, the snow made nearly everything unrecognizable. She could be ten yards from her own dwelling and not even realize it. No, she was pretty positive she had never been in this neck of the woods. The sad howling of the wind that rocked the tree tops filled her ears. Was there no other life around? She let her gloomy and rather bored gaze roam around.

She was in a bad mood. First, the male Shikoku that had been following her around for the past few months had wandered off to do only who knew what and had never returned. The next thing she knew, she was caught in a snow storm - in her opinion, at least; really it had only been a light flurry of snow fall coating the ground.
"Of all the times for him to run off," Chiasa grumbled to herself as she walked through the thick layer of snow that had fallen. She would never admit it to anyone - especially Watanuki - but he had come to be a brother to her and she had come to depend on his presence. Now having him missing, she wasn't sure what to do. She was the bossier of the two Shikokuyen, but he was older and knew more about the land than she.
It was freezing out, and she was angry with the weather from being so cold. She trotted forward some more before letting out an "omph" as she fell into a dip and was buried nearly up to her head with snow. She was definitely not having a good day thus far.

The female had taken to drawing things in the snow with her left paw. It was mostly squiggles but some of her drawings took the shape of fruits and various creatures she had encountered before. For the finer details on some of these beasts she used the tip of the ornate feathers on her tail. Occasionally she'd give her head a shake to rid her small snout of the snow that would gather on it. The only thing snow was good for was doodling in it. She also liked to see the shape of the underside of her paw. She stepped in the snow numerous places with all her legs. She also kept her senses sharp as knives in case any danger came. Danger such as what she wasn't even sure of. But you never knew when you could come across a crazy. Then she heard something. It was faint but the breeze carried it to her. It held a definite feminine tone so she relaxed a bit. Her muscles had tensed considerably under her fur coat. Her tail twitched absent-mindedly. As did her nose. She could not catch a scent for the snow and wind obliterated it. The elements weren't on her side it seemed.
And so Atsuko went where she had thought the voice had come from. Her curiosity drove her forewards. It would be nice to see a friendly sign of life. Her eyes grew tired from the dull white of the snow. She cast her eyes upwards to the trees, having stopped at the edge of the clearing where trees met the bare ground. "I'm watching you." she warned the tree tops, giving them a minute growl before dashing into the trees. The voice sounded again. Louder this time. Much louder. A brief scent flitted through her small black nostrils. It was a creature of the same species as her, for sure. The pattern of the smell revealed that to her. Her pace slowed to a light trot and then idled to nothing more then a slow walk. She was approaching the source of the noise and the smell was growing stronger. Finally after wandering for a bit she came across a white mound. Something was underneath a blanket of white. Atsuko cocked on green 'eyebrow' while looking down at the snow in front of her paws. She sat down and called, "Need any help?" she asked, raising her voice a bit to be heard.
Her voice held an air of indifference all the while. The female wasn't to adept at being friendly, per say. And thus her voice was always kept rather chilly.

Chiasa grumbled to herself as she struggled this way and that way in attempt to get out of the snow pit. However, it was difficult to move much while buried so deep in the white powdery substance. With her mind focused so much on freeing herself, her senses hadn't picked up on the approaching being until it voiced its presence. Her first instinct was to fall into a defense stance and growl at it, but when she looked over, she saw that it was only another female Shikoku.
"I am perfectly capable of getting out this without help," she told the other girl in a snippy tone. She wiggled in the snow pit, and it was clear to anyone watching that she wouldn't be able to get out of it without help - or until the snow melted, but that surely wouldn't be for quite some time.

"Oh?" Atsuko replied, a note of fake shock showing strongly in her voice. She watched the female struggle. The arrogance! What really degraded the grey female was the fact she couldn't get out no matter how much she cared to argue over the matter. While Atsuko was also independant she knew when she needed help. Shaking her head she padded over to the nearest tree, cleared away some of the snow with a few bats of her paws, and sat. She was about a meter away now and could still hear Chiasa struggling. She sighed softly and impatiently. "You sure?" she called in a cheeky manner to the other female. The silence that passed between them, however brief made Atsuko all the more impatient. "Because I can't wait here all day, love." She added. She had a certain smugness about her as she said those words.

Chiasa muttered to herself as she tried other ways of trying to get out of the snow pit. She hated to ask for help, hated appearing weak and helpless before others, but even she could see the only way out of the snow pit was to break down and ask the purple female Shikoku for help.
A sigh passed through her lips, creating a puff of white that vanished as it rose in the cold air. "So maybe I do need a little help," she admitted grumpily.

"There, now that wasn't so difficult, was it?" Said the purple-furred Sutenjiku, rising to her paws and heading towards Chiasa. It seemed someone's fur was ruffled. The female didn't seem too happy. Rising, Atsuko made her way back to Chiasa like she knew she would do, eventually. She peered into the snow pit and the half-submerged Chiasa. She could attempt to dig her out but that would risk her falling in too for she was not sure of the snow's sturdiness. Risky indeed. She stood a moment, a thoughtful scowl crossing across her visage. She liked thinking things through before doing them. She was a 'look before you leap' creature by nature. A plan began to come to her from the dark depths of her thoughts. It wasn't the most orderly but desperate times, if you could call them that, called for desperate measures. Though she didn't like it it was far less risky then stepping on the snow around Chiasa. With a slightly wrinkled nose Atsuko turned around and backed up towards Chiasa as far as she dared. "Right, grab hold of my tail." she ordered lightly, turning around to look at Chiasa with her brilliant blue eyes. "With your, erm, teeth, I suppose. Just watch the feathers," She added, her tail twitching lightly as if in agreement. Atsuko intended to hall the female out. Generally she was modest but her strength was on the decent side. She certainly was no pansy.

Chiasa stared at the tail in front of her. She was hesitant to grab hold of it, knowing how much she would hate to have someone tugging on her tail. With a sigh, she realized this was probably the best way to get her out of the snow pit. Tentatively, she leaned her head forward and lightly gripped the tail between her teeth - being mindful of the feathers - and waited for Atsuko to try and haul her up and out of the pit.

The small yet sharp p***k of teeth closing around Atsuko's tale instantly made her want to yank it free from the trapped female but she fought off the instinct. Merely whipping her head around so she looked straight ahead of her she focused on the task. Her small and dainty paws dug into the snow as she put all her might into hefting the trapped female out of her snow-laden prison. She ignored the minor pressure building up in her tail and took slow steps foreward. She bared her sharp teeth and scowled in the effort. She could hardly tell if Chiasa was coming free or not.

Chiasa struggled to find some sort of purchase in the snow to help in pulling her out of the pit. It was a struggle and took quite some time, but one slow crawling step at a time, she made her way out of the pit with the help of Atsuko.
Free of the pit, Chiasa collapsed onto the ground with a sigh of relief. She glanced at the other Shikoku, and her jaw set as words attempted to form.
"Thank you for the help," she finally said.

And finally Chiasa came free. The sudden absence of weight tugging on her rear end caused Atsuko to stumble forewards and get a faceful of snow. Snorting she pulled the upper half of her body free from the soft snow. She shook her head and blinked a few times to clear her vision. After doing so she turned around and peered curiously as Chiasa. Now she finally had a good look of the female. Her brilliant colors marring grey were an interesting combination. Atsuko set her green-dipped paws daintily in front of her body and sat, her eyes remaining on Chiasa. She let silence drift between them, seeing the female was going to say something. Was it really that hard to thank your savior? Apparently for her. But then the word came. At least they weren't full of attitude. "All in a day's work," she responded idly, letting her gave drift upwards. The snow was slowly but surely letting up. Though she could see no signs of weakness in the clouds. Though the looked lighter in color. Her stomach grumbled. She quickly looked down to it with a mild look of surprise. Sighing she scratched behind her left ear with her hind leg. While doing so she looked at Chiasa and said, "Would you perhaps know where I could get some food?"

Chiasa took a moment to recover from the fall into the snow pit. Standing, she shook her body, riding snow that had clung to her fur though a lot of it had melted and now matted her fur to her body. She sighed at that predicament.
"Food, hm?" Chiasa said thoughtfully as she glanced around the forest. Everything was covered in snow, and she didn't see anything edible.

"Yes, food." Atsuko replied, imitating the snippy tone the female used with her when they had first met. "You know, the stuff you eat," She said, absent-mindedly using sarcasm while she brushed a bit of snow from her chest. She was only returning the rudeness of the female. She hoped she appreciated it as much as Atsuko had. "My name is Atsuko, by the way." she said, tossing her bored glance to Chiasa. She gave an innocent smile to her.

Chiasa turned and lifted a brow at the other female Shikoku when she heard the snippy remark. "I'm quite aware of what food is," she replied in a dull tone. "But everything near by is frozen over." She spread her wings out and gave them a few flaps to rid them of some snow. "My name is Chiasa," she said as she drew her wings back in.
