I'm confused. I was watching an exorcist thing on the history channel.
They said that anyone that is in league with satan, the devil, is called a witch. Not the same kind of witch as a wiccan mind you, but it's called a witch.
I'm confused because I've met people that knew about satanism, or said that they were satanists...But they say satan isn't evil? It IS the same satan out of the bible they're worshiping isn't it?
I'd say he's evil cause well..He's not as forgiving and he's just downright cruel. So...Why would you want to follow/worship someone that doesn't care about you????
Of course if I'm all wrong correct me. This is why I made this post.

And just what is "in league with Satan"? Western society classes so many things under that inaccurate umbrella phrase. Depending on who you ask, it can be anything from the forever stereotyped goth kiddies to anyone who isn't a certain sect of Christianity. The term is applied frequently, correct rarely.
Well of course you're not going to worship something you think is evil, that's just retarded. The run of the mill Satanist is likely a La Veyan Satanist. They don't believe in Satan as a literal being, but rather a force of nature, the animal side of human beings. They are typically atheistic. The theistic Satanists... I don't know so much about them, but they worship various gods considered basically synonymous with Satan by Christianity (some do worship Satan of Christianity, but it's by and large not the norm). Various gods of the theistic Satanist include Belial, Set, and various Mesopotamian gods.

Ohhhh
So the 'real' satanism or the most common is more like wiccanry or paganism than satanism. I mean since they worship nature/other gods?
Well I didn't know sorry? It IS called satanism so what am I supposed to think? o.O

Creating an entire opinion based on inferences you derived from the name is seldom a good idea.

Well it's called SATANISM....If it's not worshiping the christian satan then WHY is it called satanism? That's kind of stupid. Why don't they call it...Ra-anism IDK.
But you don't have to be so rude because I don't know about it.
You know very well what I meant when I said pagan. I meant that they worship certain gods/nature/elemants/faeries/etc.
But I'm done with this. I didn't think I'd get someone so rude because I'm asking questions and assuming the reasonably obvious when it's called SATANISM.

I didn't think I'd get someone so rude because I'm asking questions and assuming the reasonably obvious when it's called SATANISM. La Vey started the Church of Satan as a counter religion to Christianity, though it soon evolved into a full fledged religion of its own. Satan was chosen as the name both because it was a slap in the face to Christianity and because the Christian Satan was essentially the embodiment of the values the Church of Satan wished to instill in its followers. Theistic Satanism is most probably called Satanism simply because Western civilization, as dominated by Christianity as it is, tends to classify many, many, many things not related to Christianity as having to do with Satan. The list of demonized gods is long and includes such names as Baphomet, Beelzebub, and Mammon. Furthermore, to my knowledge, it focuses on a similar set of values as La Veyan Satanism. I think you need to calm down and stop being so defensive. Perhaps people aren't as rude as you'd like to assume they are. I've answered all your questions, have yet to insult you, and simply gave you a generally good piece of advice. Most people would consider that fairly acceptable. You've been wording your posts in a fairly defensive manner from the start which suggests to me you were almost expecting to be attacked and are now simply trying to project your own prophecies on to my posts.

I'm gonna agree with The Resurrection here, he has yet to try and offend or attack you. I think you've just misunderstood what he's said. Though I would normally say you owe him an apology, it would be up to him, I guess, whether or not he deserves one.

...sometimes I find all forms of religion to be contradictive and hap-hazard...when it all comes down to the wire it's a 50/50 chance to see if you were right or wrong about something and until man can find a way to reserrect on demand we'll never truely know...

If what I read is correct - modern satanists take the icon of the Christian Satan and take the attributes ( that are very human ) and endulge on that. Using those traits in ritual and etc. So in a way, they do worship Satan. But not so much like you think, they just love the idea of being more human, then trying to be more like a god. Or more divine.
Indeed, modern satanism is really just a slap in the face as to the name. Even though they do rever satan as an icon or archetype... they aren't revering the Christian belief that he is all evil and wants to destroy things and all that.
But in all seriousness - I have a high belief that nothing and no one can be entirely evil or entirely good for that matter. We've all done something to hurt another, even if it wasn't intended. And 'evil' can love its family and friends. And then what does that say about evil?

As dark as someone may be, there is always that ray of light and as light as someone may be, there is always that little shadow just waiting to grow...

I have a friend who's a satanist and she says that satanism is more the worship of the self, as opposed to the worship of a divine being. This struck me at first as satanism being very narcissistic.
And I read something about satanism involving eight days of sacrifice.
What drives me the most nuts about satanism is the term witch is applied to satanists and to wiccans. People tend to confuse the two and draw the conclusion that wiccans are satanists, which they are not.

IF you want to get some information on satanism, just use google and search up the Church of Satan or Satanism on google. They have a website and it will tell you all the common beliefs of the common satanist. To many people, their beliefs just seem like logic and common sense.

http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11349961 Theres a Satanism FAQ/whatever right there. Satan means adversary. The Church of Satan is a slap to the Christian faith, and it means they are adversaries. Pan, the greek/roman (?) god of the forest who plays the panflute has horns and goats legs with the body of a human. Somethings say he was also a sex freak to various degrees, and other times hes just a "god" who likes music, dancing, and nature. I also like how the original poster hasn't posted since Res pointed out the flaw in their logic. Or to put it in an actually rude statement, "Pointed out their stupidity." (I'm not above being blunt and rude in turn to stupidity =D<---...first time I remember using a text emote)

Neither are all witches. To automatically assume that a witch is a Satanist (or even that a Satanist is automatically a witch) is erroneous and just downright lacks any kind of common sense. (This was not directed at you, Novembere, but at close-minded individuals in general.) Now, I'm not saying I'm OFFENDED if someone automatically thinks I'm a Satanist because I'm a witch; I really don't care. What irks me is that people are so lazy and afraid that they are unwilling to research even the tiniest bit beyond their own twisted li'l worldview.

He was both, actually, in addition to being a god of fertility and vegetation. However, the Roman version I believe was named Sylvanus, or something similar.
