I haven't got an answer yet... but I have a story to tell!

There's a community called Helgon.net (helgon = saint, but it's for goths and such and I don't belong, but whatever), and the members writes facts about themselves. You know, politics, favourite music, blahblah, sexuality.

So, on my profile, it says "Asexual". My friend, who I've known since I was lots younger, said in school "Dude, you have to erase that. People can start thinking you're serious!"

Sexually frigid? No, no one has asked me that question.

But then again, I'm the nerd at school, so people expect me to maintain my academics more than they expect me to steal virginities.

My family makes thinly-veiled jokes that accuse me of being gay.
I don't think they understand how degrading and uncaring they're being.

They hide it under that guise of "lol he's frigid" or "he's not into girls."

So, not at school, because they maintain a "don't ask don't tell" attitude that I appreciate very much.

I remember when my friend told me about how some guy from my school had come up to her and asked her if I might be interested in going on a date with him.

She advised against it and told him that I wasn't really interested in guys. (She doesn't know that I might be asexual, but she picks up on the signs).

He then responded, "Why not? Does she play for the other team or something?"

So, the guy assumed that I was a lesbian simply because I wouldn't have wanted to go out with him. It was a bit embarrasing.

And of course there was the time when my mother asked me if I was gay...

That sucks, pdmaniac and Sadakai. I would hate to have my parents point out to their coworkers, "By the way, my son is sexually frigid." Even if it were true, it would be tactless to just blurt that out.

Clinton maintained a "don't ask, don't tell" policy, too.

I think part of this is the fault of word choice. In Sadakai's case, her friend mentioned that she wasn't really interested in guys. Had she clipped off the phrase "in guys", the situation would have changed; he could back off or he could press her on further and ask why not or something else could happen.

In our Government class, we learned that significant effects arose from slightly changing the wording of a poll.

She's not really interested.

She's not really interested in guys.

There's a difference.

But I don't mean to imply that word choice is the only factor in play here. It could also be due to a number of other reasons, such as the guy having a certain mindset of girls being only straight or lesbian, or something else.

Oh, I LOVE tricking people into thinking I'm gay. The results are almost always hilarious and make the person on the other end look like a total douchebag.
It usually stems out from situations like Sadakai's, except lately it's been happening a lot more from friends of a friend who are female, and I'm usually the one telling them.
Person: "So and so really likes you."
Me: "That's disgusting."
Person: "OMGWTFBBQ?! How's that gross?"
Me: "Well, I don't like men. rolleyes "
Person: "OMGWTFBBQx10?! YOU'RE A LESBIAN?!"
Me: "Pfft, no! When did I say I liked women?
...Wait, do you have something wrong with gay people?"

They usually either protest the Hell out of the last statement, inquire about how I don't like men or women and THEN protest the Hell out of the last statement, or leave/change the subject. Orchestrated awkward moments FTW! xd

Oh man! Who was it one time that made that one post about starfish? Something about a sleepover of some sort, and some guy tried to get "personal" with someone, and she started talking randomly about starfish? Made the guy stare at her blankly while her friend nearly died of laughter?

I forgot who that person was, but dang, that was funny.

When I told my mom I was asexual she just blatantly asked me:
"Are you a lesbian? It's ok if you are..."
"Mom, I'm not gay..."

A few months later I met a girl who said she was asexual too and I was so excited to have met another person who felt the same way. When I told my mom she freaked:
Mom: "WHAT?! You can't hang out with her!!"
Me: "what? why?"
Mom: "I thought you were just making that word up!"

yep, my mom's fun.

My mom says I'm repressed. That I have other things to do, so my mind has totally repessed all my hormonal urges because I'm too busy. Because all her friends children that are good students, they're not hooking up with people either.

Yeah, I get straight A's so I must be repressed. Pfft.

And she thinks that if I ever did kiss someone, or become interested in something, I wouldn't tell her anyways, so for all she knows I have.

"If you became interested in someone, or kissed someone, would you tell me?"

"Beats me. I never have."

Except, now I realize I WOULD tell her. Because I actually did tell her I was gay, a couple years ago, and she said "are you sure you don't only think you're gay because you don't like the opposite sex?" Well, she was RIGHT. That was the only reason I thought I was gay. Now I know I'm asexual. Boo. She tells people who ask that I'm still confused. I haven't been confused in almost a year, since I found out what I was.

I've never used the word asexual. I always just said I didn't like men or women. I think I might have to use the "A word" next time. Maybe I'd have better results. Or not.

It would be easier if I was gay. My mom has no problem accepting that.

you're mom sounds a lot like my mom. I know she much rather prefers I was a lesbian, because then at least I'd still be with someone. And everytime it comes up she just says "You'll find someone you love and get married and have lots of children. It's not normal to be by yourself."

But that only makes me want to prove her wrong xd

I lost my straight-A streak in the tenth grade. Oh well. I'm still salutatorian. (Just got my class rankings today.)

I might post my unofficial high school transcript. (Stalk meh!)
