((Thread is open to anyone who wants to post. But mostly Chloe Tsu and/or Kyou please?))

Subject: Alexi's return, pick-up of Kalec (in stasis? has been aware for some time?)
Players: Alexi, Kalec, Kyou, Tsu, and/or Chloe

((Story continued from here: [Journal 2/6/07]))

In the last fading hours of sunlight, a softly whirring fighter-class ship touches down on the surface of the earth near Lab 305 and powers down, dust swirling around it from the air being pushed away from the ground. Two figures leap out from the rather sizable height, delicately landing on the ground with barely a whisper of sound or disturbance. In the light of the sunset, pairs of wings are noticeable for a brief moment before disappearing into the shadows again.

"We're here 'Lexi. Just take a deep breath and you'll be fine."

Click to show.Quietly nodding, the female figure proceeds quickly but gracefully to the door of the lab, they quickly opens it and enters, her companion following a bit behind. A sea of new faces greets her adjusting ice-blue eyes, and it takes tremendous willpower for her to keep that icy look as she tries to smile confidently.

"Hello everyone, I'm back from the dead, so to speak. I guess I should introduce myself... I'm Alexi, one of the owners of a Raevan who was to be named Kalec. Is Dr. Kyou around? Or perhaps, Chloe or Dr. Tsu? I have a lot of things to discuss...I haven't yet picked up my Raevan...Its been a year since I last saw them."

A bit embarassed and overwhelmed, Alexi almost goes instinctively into a defensive stance before she catches her hand, which is straying to the hilt of her sword, and places it on her hip instead.

Chloe looked up with a blink, giving a small gasp as she saw a familiar face. This name she did remember, how couldn't she? It was the winged woman! "M-Ms. Alexi! H-Hello!"

She gave a small wave, motioning for her to step closer to the receptionist desk, a warm smile of welcoming on her face. "I-It's been s-so long! A-Are you alright?" She gave a small shake of her head, remembering her duties. "C-Can I help you with anything?"

"Chloe!" she half-exclaimed out of pure relief and half-ran to the desk. "Its so good to see you. I've been having a very rough time for the past year, I really apologize for not coming back sooner to take care of Kalec or to see any of you..."

Something was different though from last time, and it wasn't just the fact that the woman was wearing an elegant dress instead of armor. She seemed younger, a little more unsure of herself despite the obvious glances she caused from the men in the room.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Oh c'mon Lex, you don't have to make excuses, you were DEAD for a year for frag's sake." a young tenor voice snapped lightly in the background, where a chiseled red-headed young man was leaning casually against the frame of the entrance, unintentionally but effectively blocking it. "And ah don't mean figuratively either. Don't tell me ya forgot about that Avatar crushing the life out of ya already."

"Lindin, hush, and get that cigarette out of here, this isn't our home you know." Alexi hissed in an embarassed tone at her companion.

"Bah, party pooper," he rolled his eyes and grinned slyly at her, flicking the cigarette into the air and making a "bang" motion with his finger. It immediately disintegrated.

"Ahem, sorry about that Chloe." Wincing, the alluring woman turned back to her host. It seemed however, that this interruption by Lindin helped her relax a little more. "I wanted to ask if I could talk with you, to see if I could get my experiment going again and to figure out what the progress is on it? I had this feeling inside that the experiment has been successful, despite noone telling me of it...I can sense the essence of Kalec around here somewhere... "

Chloe fell silent, eyes flickering between Alexi and the red-headed man that spoke behind her, giving a small start as he did his disappereing cigarette trick. Suprisingly enough.. the fact that the woman before her had been dead at one time in the near past didn't really surprise her.

She'd been working for Lab305 for a bit over a year now. Death and rebirth into life wasn't a strange idea anymore.

"I-I... I hope you're alright now.." She looked at Alexi with a soft concern, she truely did hope that things were better for the mysterious woman. "A-As for.. your project.. Kalec, did you call him?" She looked up, her expression almost ... relieved. "He's in a container.. safe in stasis sleep. Dr.Kyou puts Raevens in this sleep when their guardian doesn't come to pick them up within a month at least.."

Graficcha's attention had been immediately drawn by the two winged creatures that appeared out of the sky, apperantly coming for more than a casual saying hi.
Their powers seemed quite extraordinary, and the male seemed to have no manners at all... what th hell was he doing at Lab 305? If he tried to make a mess out of Kyou-sama's Lab, he'd pay, she swore.
It had been quite some time since she last saw them, a year ago, it had to be. About that time ago, the winged woman had been around, too, when the girl herself had just arrived and for the first time, had seen the Raevans. Her notebook was still annoyingly empty about her, though, and that companion of hers was even more of a mystery to her.

Using the same trick she had used since last time she had sneaked into the Lab, keeping the sliding doors open with a twig right after the two, and slipped through a looong moment later, mostly because she didn't feel like she was going to escape these two's attention very easily.
It was better to wait until they were busy chatting with the miss.

She also didn't want to be seen by Chloe. Graficcha didn't remember much from 'that one time', but the assistant may have seen her once in a phase of stupor.

So now, Graficcha was inside the building, and stood rigid behind a corner from where she could listen, keep a view of most of the battlegound, and still have an escape route into one of the closets nearby.

"He's in a container.. safe in stasis sleep. Dr.Kyou puts Raevens in this sleep when their guardian doesn't come to pick them up within a month at least.."

She was fast enough there to pick up the last part of the conversation, and the girl felt a disturbed feeling well up inside her when she heard about Raevans being put in a stasis.
What an awful thing to do...Why'd anyone neglect a Raevan even BEFORE you've met him?!

But she'd give the angelic the time to redeem herself in her eyes.
She knew who they were talking about, Kyou and other people had mentioned him sometimes. Nobody knew Graf was always nearby.

Kalec.

She was extremely curious to see him, and she hoped feverishly he wouldn't suffer from any lasting damage from being in that stasis for so long...
He just missed a whole year of his life... but WHY?

Click to show.Ever watchful, despite his indifferent appearance, Lindin's draconic eyes caught Chloe's glance as she reacted to the spontaneous combustion of the cigarette. Running a gloved hand up through the wind-swept locks of his hair, he gave her a sly wink and coy smile that wouldn't register until she thought of the incident later.

Alexi's attention was focused purely on Chloe and she barely noticed Lindin's antics as she spoke earnestly with the soft-spoken lab tech. Her expression had softened in silent thanks when Chloe asked how she was doing.

"Oh, no worries hon, I'm fine. Surprised you remember me actually, since its been so long. Just need to get used to this body, it doesn't really fit as well as my old one." She rubbed the fingers of her right hand on the ivory skin of her left upper-arm. "Just....itchy you could say? I've had this done before, but you never quite get used to the feeling."

"But enough about myself." She frowned decisively and shook her delicately shaped head, the silver hair framing it falling over her chest as she bent forward. Her frown turned to a winning smile, her gaze still serious though. "Yes, my project was to be named Kalec and I'm very glad to hear that he's alive and alright. I was afraid that he would be growing up without a mother or mentor to take care of him, I had this mental image of him wandering around, wondering what his purpose was."

She shuddered a bit and broke her gaze as she did so, looking down on the receptionist's desk in contemplation. A being with potential power on the scale Kalec did, without someone to guide him. The possibilities were a bit frightening. She steeled herself against the emotions, looking deep into Chloe's eyes before she spoke again..

"I really appreciate how accomodating you have been to my absense. May I see him? I'd like to officially claim his guardianship. I'm not sure what the procedures are to taking care of a Frei-stage Raevan, so you might have to teach me a little about it as we walk."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Her expression was one of excitement and perhaps a little nervous anticipation. She wasn't used to relying on other people or being so unsure about procedure, but she trusted Chloe and felt she was in good hands.

Meanwhile, still hanging around the doorframe of the entrance as the sliding doors opened, Lindin moved his eyes ever so slightly to the right to catch the newcomer entering the room. She obviously didn't want to be seen, but he had noticed. He smiled a little. This was an unexpected turn of events to an otherwise boring situation. Maybe he could play around with her for awhile. But for now, he was going to pretend he hadn't noticed.

Graficcha listened to what Alexi had to say... her male companion'd have to wait to get her attention.

What the woman herself herself had to say did puzzle the sneak a little at first, but she caught on a bit further into the talk.
In her opinion, it seemed like the woman really cared about Kalec, but Graf suspected that somehow, she might be wrong about who exactly THIS Kalec was going to be. She didn't really believe that anyone except for herself could love a blank, memory-less creature without caring about his personality and traits.

As a Frei, Kalec would be a blank.

Now that she had this question to mull over, Graficcha began splitting her attention. She half listened in, keen on any names, places or the word 'Raevan', and spent the other half of her brain capacity on watching around.

When glancing over the red man, she immediately felt the tingle in her neck that told her he had seen her.
Why is he staying quiet?
Graf pretended not to notice, letting her gaze flow over him as if he was a lifeless prop inside the room, carefully avoiding looking into his eyes for longer than a nanosecond. She resisted the urge to let it linger long, for that might, and probably would let him now that she was aware of him being aware.

Two could play this game...

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Inside, Lindin grinned as he felt the sneaky newcomer's gaze cross him. His wings were put away for the moment, concealed as part of his overcoat. He had already known that she had noticed him, there was absolutely no reason anyone -wouldn't- notice him. He was used to it. Considering both his and Alexi's odd style of dress and their various physical traits that marked them as different from normal humans. But the mere fact that she was avoiding his reptilian gaze meant she knew he was watching her.

He swiveled his wandering eye back and gave a deep, noticeable sigh, closing his eyes and grinning a bit as he felt the sneaky one's eyes flit over and then return to the floor. He began to extract himself from his position against the wall, his clothes rustling a little, and tugged a little at his popped collar. He slowly opened his eyes and tilted his head towards the newcomer, his chiseled face a picture of mischief but friendliness. He walked toward her, his sneakers squeaking, or rather, creaking a little against the floor and then came to a stop next to her. Not facing her directly but instead returning his gaze to Alexi, he mumbled out of the corner of his mouth.

"Alexi's one beautiful woman, can't believe that she was dead for a year." He said half to himself, but slowly one of his eyes moved towards the notebook-wielding person next to him. "Jig's up kid." He shrugged and grinned, that one eye wandering to catch her eyes. It was unnatural really, how he could move his eyes independantly. "Ahm Lindin. And don't worry, I don't bite - hard. And I won't call their attention to ya. Whats yer name?" He grinned from the side of his mouth. He privately wondered why this girl had been viewing Alexi with alternating furious, pondering, and hopeful expressions. She didn't seem to be one of the owners. Couldn't be, an owner would have walked right in and Chloe would have recognized them. Mysteries intrigued him.

When the man approached her private spot, het comfort zone, Graficcha tensed. She instinctively felt that this wasn't just any guy. She had known from the moment he had entered, yet he didn't frighten her as much as a normal insuspicious person would.

When he decided to talk to her -he seemed to be generally ignored by his companion and Chloe, who were discussing more pressing matters-, Graf's heart skipped a beat, and her eyes widened.
Somehow, she found herself able to calm down quickly, but the hairs in her neck were still on edge. A dark aura began to mist around her to conceal herself even more, but rather from the two females than from this most intriguing man.

Yes, she had seen his eyes move weirdly, she knew where he hid his wings, but she listened and stared right out in front of her. He won't snitch on me...

She could hardly believe it. No complaining from her, though! The girl felt like examining him up close, wanted to know everything about him, but she still didn't look at him, for she knew her 'looking' was usually 'staring' to other people. And she really didn't want to offend him. Year of observing all kinds of people, she knew that it wasn't appreciated, and somewhere inside, she felt a similar thing towards that man, Lindin, as she felt towards Raevans.
He had an unusual way of pronouncing words, or at least, he deviated from the standard, but the girl thought he had a pleasant voice.

It was strange, but Graf decided she'd tolerate him, and didn't move away. She doubted he knew what a world-changing fact this was to her, but he didn't have to care.

An even stranger though crossed her mind.
He doesn't need stares, he needs a hug...
Suddenly, Graficcha's head snapped upwards a little, fearing he'd heard her think. She cast him a sharp look, directly into his eyes, and she tried to see any hint of him knowing her thoughts -who knows, he minght be able to- 'read' them, and then focused on watching his irises, pupils and any other characteristics. It turned into an examination out of pure biological interest... one time, som years ago, even Graf had studied science.
There was definitely something reptilian there; if the indepentantly moving eyes hadn't completely given it away. Faintly visible scales... flaming red eyes and charred red hair, and horns. Yep, horns. Her fingers began to prickle with an urge to touch, to feel them, if it were the kind of horns that had blood vessels running through them, or the hard bony kind, or if they were skin outgrowths...

Damn, she WAS staring now.

"... sorry." she whispered softly, now looking back at the floor again.
"Please... please don't think I mean any of you any harm.
... my... my name is ...Graficcha." she continued, stepping over the invisible anonimous barrier that held her apart from her 'targets'. She felt comfortable, too comfortable. Still on high alert, she tried this new way of interaction.
"... pleased to meet you, mister Lindin." she added after a moment, reminding herself of the usual manners of conversing with another person.

This would be interesting.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Lindin smiled a little inside as Graf tensed but didn't move away. He considered this a success. He was very good at penetrating people's individual comfort bubbles without much effort. Something about his laid back manner, his good looks and his intriguing style usually caused people to come to him. He supposed, this was a trait he picked up from his father.

He couldn't have known that it was Graf's innate interest in non-humans that sparked her interest. He just figured it was because of his charismatic presence. But whatever it was, at least he got a chance to talk with this enigmatic woman. And he really didn't mind the stare. He'd gotten used to it, and considering he himself like all transhumans were products of experiments, being analyzed like this was just a matter of standard protocol.

Feeling that this girl was interested by the way she was staring, Lindin began to loosen up a bit. Maybe it was a good idea now to thought-speak into her mind directly. She didn't seem like she was afraid of his differences at all, and instead intrigued by them considering the slight opening of her jaw and the way she was looking at his horns. He could speak more easily this way, and project images that no words could really describe. It was a more open way of communicating. Plus he just wanted to see her reaction. Might be fun. Everyone always responded in a unique way.

His voice whispered in her head despite the fact that he wasn't moving his mouth.

-Hey there. No worries, Ah didn't take no offense to yer staring, its natural for people cuz I'm so different from em. Oh and don't be alarmed. I'm doing what my people call thought-speak. Ya don't have to do it back if ya don't want, probly easier for ya to speak out loud. But I figured this way we wouldn't catch their attention, ya see.- He smiled and winked slyly at her. -And yeah, I'm not exactly human, though I guess I sorta -have- human ancestors.- He raised his hands up to his horns and rubbed them a bit. -These little boys you see up here and my eyes and all are traits I picked up from my some of the Rathien genes I have in me. I guess its a foreign term to ya. I can explain a bit better with pictures.-

An image slowly formed in Graf's mind, of a red and rocky alien landscape that seemed to be quite barren. Lavaflows ran through the area like red-hot streams. A dragon began to form in her mind as it flew over the landscape, and raptor-like creatures materialized slowly onto the stony terrain. Their eyes glowed with inner fire, horns much like Lindin's protruding from the sides of their mouthless faces. It was like looking into the age of the dinosaurs. Somehow, she knew that they and dinosaurs, and the myths of dragons were correlated in some way.

-Thats a Rathien. There's three other species of that race, Authien, Koorian, and Drakien - Authien is water, Koorian is Air, Drakien is more the underground, dark type. We transhumans are the remnants of experiments to combine human genes with the genes of these creatures.- All this explanation happened in the span of seconds.

His eyes began to change as he smiled a little in what could only be described as a reptilian expression of understanding and knowing. -Ah couldn't help but see your interest in Alexi too. She's quite the character.- He smiled and something on his face changed - perhaps became more human - and his expression conformed to what could possibly be construed as love. -She started out as a Koorian transhuman, Divinity Class - supposedly one of our elite. But sad story, ya see.- His eyes and jaw-line hardened as he remembered the images that Alexi had sent him to describe what happened to her in the past. -She got kicked out, cuz after the exodus, some of Divinity class became pretty power-hungry and evil cuz of their status. They think they rule everything. Hell some of the lower castes banded with em and now we have a war on our hands. Lexi 's one of the fighters thats tryin' to save our world and way of life from these commandos. Her fiance was one of them, but she didn't know it, and he ended up slaughtering her WHOLE family on their wedding day.-

Images of a dreadful bloodbath, angels crying, the maniacal laughter of an angel bathed in blood resonating throughout the room appeared and flashed quickly in her mind. They weren't too graphic but just enough to show her the gravity of Alexi's past. Lindin's eyes, despite their reptilian nature, showed that he was no stranger to pain and suffering either, that he was old far beyond the scope of his physical appearance.

-She lives for revenge really. But also to save our world. Kinda sad. Oh and the reason she's trying to do this Raevan thing is becuz in her mind and heart, she thinks that this is gonna bring Kalec, our dark savior, back from the dead somehow. I don't think it'll work, but she's gotta try anyway. She's got that kind of heart and determination. Hell, she got crushed by an Avatar a year ago and Ah just finally got her a new body, and she's rushing off again all interested in finishing this thing with the Raevans. But anyway if this doesn't work, she'll find something else to try.-

He sighed heavily. -Poor girl. She isn't even used to her new body yet. Usually takes years. Ya see, every time we do this, its hard cuz the clone itself that ya give the memories and personality and soul to already has some sort of partial soul. And so they intermingle a bit. Its been stressful for both me and 'Lexi lately. Don't know whats gonna happen between us now.-

His gloved hand was clenched in anger and pain as images of a behemoth machine crushing the life out of his beloved angel leaked out from his mind into Graf's. He was too young yet to be able to control leaks like that. Despite his outward appearance, he still was human and emotions ran rampant throughout his system. Lindin didn't understand why he was voicing his frustrations and all his history to this slight girl with the notebook in her hand staring slackjawed at him once in awhile, then looking down apologetically at the floor. But for some reason, he felt comfortable.

Here was a girl who wasn't a part of his race, who had an interest in him, who didn't make him feel threatened. Because despite his confidence and his mischievous attitude, it was mainly to cover the insecurities he had. About who he was. Was he human? Was he a Rathien, a demon-dragon or raptor? He couldn't control his hatred very well at all and felt lost without his old mentor and father there to help him. He sincerely hoped that Alexi's experiment would be successful. For if it didn't, it would fall to him to understand more about his powers on his own, in order to save his world and those he had come to love.

Sighing heavily he shook his head, his face breaking out into the old grin again as he glanced at his new companion. -So tell me about yourself there kiddo. Graf is it? Whatcha doin' here in this lab, seems like you just kinda avoid everyone. Even that labrat Chloe doesn't seem to recognize you and its obvious you know your way around here. Got any stories for me?-

A can of spam sat on top of a large brown paper bag filled with groceries. As Kyou carried his groeceries across the clearing to his lab, he noticed an odd looking sky ship sitting nearby. They have a visitor? Was his first thought as he continued to stare at it. He wondered who could it be? And why would they visit? As he continued walking, he picked up his pace a little. The can that was prodding out of the paper bag started to slip sideways, indicating that Kyou's hold to the bag wasn't balanced. But being as dense as he usually was, Kyou didn't notice the movement because his mind was filled by curiosity with the visitors, eyes focused on the entrance to the lab. Whoever they are, they might be in the reception room.

With a loud thump, the can fell onto the pavement. This made Kyou paused in his tracks as he peeled his gaze off the doors and turned to the can instead. The filled paper bag was already rather hard to balance, and although he had an urge to bent down and pick the can back up into the paper bag, he fear that he may lose his balance and toppled the entire bag instead. Kicking the can into a bush nearby, he thought he would come back for it later.

The lab doors slid open effortlessly as Kyou entered the lab entrance. The first thing he saw was of course the familiar back view of an attractive woman. Silver hair with horns and a silver halo, it must be Alexi that visited the labs almost a year ago! But instead of relief to see her again, it was a heat wave of anger and discomfort that went through Kyou's body. Not only did he remembered her from that particular visit, he also remembered that he had to put a Raevan into stasis sleep due to her irresponsible actions of not coming to pick him up.

He also sensed that there are some magical activities going on in the exact same room. Kyou was more widely known as a scientist, living in a lab and all. But people often forgot the fact that he is a warlock too. Concentrating the leaked magical powers from the activity, he jerked his head towards Lindin's direction, where he saw a girl standing with him. He had never seen this young demonic man with red hair before, but judging from the situation and his clothing style he assumed this man came with Alexi. He could sense that the man was using mind related magicks, but he don't know what it was for sure. A yellow glow shone in Kyou's eyes for a brief moment as he chanted a spell quietly. He blocked Lindin's mind from running out of his own head. Effectively paralyzed all Lindin's mind related abilities for a good 2 weeks. Being surged with a quiet anger now, he will show no mercy to people that dared to use magical abilities within his lab. Especially if they are Alexi's acquaintances.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:57 pm

It was only in the span of mere moments, that the newly quiet and peaceful room had become a flurry of action and chaos.

As Kyou entered the lab entrance, Lindin turned his head to greet the newcomer only to find an irate Dr. Kyou standing in the doorway. And what he saw scared him and put him on the defensive with a snarl on his mouth. He recognized that expression, his race and species had it often. It was an expression that seemed related to the Hatred, a deep emotional outburst that was prone to let loose significant power. He didn't know if this Doctor, who had a bag of groceries in his arms, had powers that worked the same way. But as her guardian, he couldn't take that chance with Alexi around. This man was dangerous, and the thought of Alexi having to face this after all he had done to revive her from the mangling she had taken from that Avatar made him furious. His eyes began to glow with red-hot power and he started to warn Graf and Alexi to get back....
_____________________________

Alexi had also felt a presence even before it endered the door of the lab. She recognized it as Kyou, but sensed no malicious intent from the signature. As she turned slowly to greet him, feeling his gaze on the nape of her neck, her smile was obliterated from her face in an instant as she realized that he was not very happy to see her. She had caught him in mid-chant, his eyes still glowing from the spell he was casting. The sight made her back up a few paces, almost crashing into the reception desk and she had to throw her hand down to steady herself.
_____________________________

Meanwhile, Lindin had just about pulled his sword out from its sheath as the newcomer chanted a powerful spell. He knew a warlock when he saw one, he was not one to be fooled - after all, his father had similar powers, despite the fact that they required very little chanting and instead required physical motions. HE had some similar powers in fact, as his eyes blazed. But before he could react, the completing of the silent spell had blasted him against the wall, not by physical force but by something far worse.

As he collapsed to the ground, a knife of cold emptiness wracked his body. The red glow that emanated from his eyes shut off with a start, making his eyes completely black. It was as if a door had slammed shut inside him. He suddenly felt very, very much alone despite his surroundings and the people who were very much inside the room. He couldn't feel anything of the Link. The conversation he was having with Graf was abruptly cut off mid-sentence by the will of another. He couldn't even really think. His physical senses seemed dulled, he couldn't see as far, his eyes spun wildly in their sockets trying to find some sort of light in the emptiness of the room.

What in the ******** did I do to this b*****d? He thought, or rather, tried to think. He could sense that in most ways, he was intact, but he couldn't control much of his body. So much of it was in many ways controlled in some small energetic or magical stimulus from his mind that he could barely move. He felt like a puppet with his strings cut. Hatred built up inside him now, but no powers came to grasp. He lay on the floor crumpled into a quite unnatural position..
_________________________

"OH MY GOD, LINDIN!" Alexi's eyes had at first lowered in silent sorrow as she had noticed Kyou enter with furious wrath blazing in his eyes. She deserved the punishment of facing him this way. Despite the fact that she had died in battle, she could have let someone know to go take care of Kalec. Instead, she had left much of her research undisclosed, even to Lindin. It was an oversight she would have to pay for. She had been snapped out of her reverie and internal debate about what to say to Kyou when Lindin's presence had vanished from the Link. His normal magical leaks from his mind that were inherent to his youth had stopped.

She deserved to be punished, this was true. But Lindin, he had done nothing wrong! All he was guilty of was perhaps speaking telepathically with someone and maybe a little trick with his flame-power on a cigarette, little parlor tricks really that required little magical energy. But it DID require magical energy. Everything about him was extremely dependant on the fine balance magic created to keep the Rathien and the Human together.

Suddenly, she realized in horror what Lindin's body was about to do. She started running to his collapsed form in panic, but she realized it was too late when his head raised, eyes completely black and sunken, a maniacal and twisted smile on his lips.
__________________________

[Let me take over now] a voice said impatiently, laughing a little in triumph in his head. It was the Rathien counterpart that lived with him inside this body. Try as he might, Lindin felt like he was chained even in his mental world, the magical world where he had complete control. He couldn't feel the entity now, he couldn't take hold of it, to put it back in its chains. He could no longer hold back any of the rage and physical power that the thing he had been melded with contained. There was really no choice in the matter for him any longer and he gave up control, what little he had anyway, to this purely physical being. He made a dark pact then. Alright. Take over. Keep Alexi safe. But you're giving me back my body after this. [I know what to do] The thing grinned.
___________________________

Rising without aid of his legs, like a puppet would look as its owner picked it up to play with, Lindin's body jerked unnaturally at first and convulsed. To Alexi's horror, the world started to bend a little, and an unearthly cackle emanated from Lindin's mouth. With speed and strength dwarfing even Alexi's, he had discarded his sword and hurled himself into the air. His wings had become unfurled, claws had ruptured from his hands and feet, and his mouth had begun to disappear into his face, the scales that were previously hidden under his flesh rising to the front and becoming completely visible and tangible. Without much of a warning, this image had flashed away, unfollowable by the naked eye. The world warped a little again.

"NO! Lindin! NO!" She knew what he was going to do, or rather, the instinctive beast that had taken over was going to do. The thing had collapsed onto all fours before it had disappeared, any semblance of what had been human in Lindin gone. "LINDIN Take CONTROL!"
_______________________

Alexi.. The hysterical voice of his lover reached his ears even buried deep down in the darkness that was his body. Control...must....fight....it.... With his willpower, he summoned what mental magic he could despite the power of the spell and threw a cage at the retreating and laughing form before him. The thing fell into the cage, snapping at Lindin in hatred.
_______________________

Instead of crashing into Kyou, Lindin's now-horribly reptilian body reappeared and twisted in midair awkwardly, as if it had been going one direction and then violently hurled itself in another. It landed behind Alexi, glaring red hate at the Doctor but otherwise dealing little damage to the structure of the building. He had taken some control of this beast over at hearing his lover screaming at him to stop, but he didn't know how long this raging Rathien would stay behind the mental barrier he had so hastily thrown. The angel known as Alexi wrapped her arms around his neck in sadness and love, the barrier keeping the essence of her love for him had finally broken down.

"Kyou listen to me." Alexi stroked the side of Lindin's massive scaled head, crooning soothingly. "Whatever you did to Lindin just now, you need to undo it. Please. I beg you, he'll lose his humanity if he can't maintain control. This beast you see before you is a demon that he's been at war with inside himself. He's really very harmless. I swear. His telepathy is something we all have innately, he just doesn't know how to control image-leaks, which are themselves very harmless too. He'll tear the whole place apart if you let him continue on like this, or you'll end up killing him." She bowed her head in respect. "I can sense your power, I bow to it, it rivals my old mentor Kalec's power. But please, share in his compassion too. I will take whatever punishments you see fit." She had by now risen to come between the raptor-shaped reptile demon horror of Lindin, and the mysterious powerful being named Dr. Kyou, tears in her eyes but a defiance shone there of power beneath that she would use to defend her fallen lover, to the death if necessary.

Graficcha

Gracious Conversationalist

PostPosted: Fri Feb 09, 2007 2:55 am

Graficcha had listened and watched the images that 'flooded' her mind... it came as a surprise, but she wasn't afraid. She guessed that the Rathien didn't know she could just as well answer him back through the same link, she understood how it worked, but she didn't.
He had a story to tell, and she listened with interest, as well as with some sense of guilt...
Besides being happyto get all this information freely, out of a reliable source, she tried to show she truly cared.
When he eplained the mind-lingo to her, she nearly snickered and just nodded at him placidly hile he was 'telling' her about it.

A wave of a warm feeling towards the man was building up inside her... How she wanted to be able to spare this individual and all his kin a pain like this... His explanation of Alexi's life -reader's digest- made her see what her intent was with Kalec.
In her aura, she could feel the emotions troubling Lindin, but she opted to let him finish what he was showing. Graf wondered f anyone could give him what he needed and wanted... would anyone see it? Someone to be kind to him, to listen, to relieve his little aches, to get some burdens off his shoulders...to guide him a little, provide for him... She wanted to tell him what she felt, but she waited...

When he seemed to be finished and asked her about herself, Graf's neck hairs rose up again, but he settled down quikly, and began trying to think of something. Stories she had, plenty of them, but where to start... Something else attracted het attention though.

She saw doctor Kyoupiruchi coming in, and hid a little further into the shadows. She couldn't see him very well that way, but he wouldn't see her at all, she hoped, hidden in a darker veil. forget me...I'm not here... Lindin turned to him, acknowledging the man's presence, and Graf retreated a bit, content to wait and observe like she always did.

Until that moment on which Lindin's mind link suddenly broke. Graficcha looked at him confusedly, and then she anxiously hushed back, away from him as she felt his warning.

Graficcha gasped and backed away, and for a long time, she could only stare in horror as something awful was happening to the man. Her mind screamed at him, but she felt him falling apart, lose himself, just like that.
But WHY?!

She glanced around frantically, until she caught the smouldering look in the devil-tailed doctor's eyes.

Yes, she was fully aware of Kyou being adept at certain arcane arts, but never had she witnessed him using his powers.. let alone, -in her eyes- abuse them.
To her, this was a downright assault, without any sensical reason she could imagine right now.
Ideas of issues with Lindin' race, or a personal grudge between the two of them crossed her mind, but to do something this drastic, that just wasn't anything like the kind doctor Kyoupiruchi she had observed so many times, the one she admired so much. What was so different now to make him react like this?

Again, like on so many occasions, the spy began to feel that desperation, that anger at herself for not being able to DO anything to help. Could ANYONE help now?
Innerly, she grew cold with anxiety. What should she DO, would Lindin be okay, COULD he even be okay after this? What should she DO?!

Should she confront Kyou directly, face one of her greatest fears and demand him to undo whatever he had caused this reaction?
But could the man even stop what he had set in motion? Had it been an accident, or was this fully intentional?

And was it really him who did this? Maybe Alexi... No. She wouldn't. If what Lindin had showed her about the woman was true, or even near the truth, Graf knew she'd never...
Chloe had never shown any malicious intent, either; and as an almost normal 'terran', Graficcha knew for certain that she herself couldn't have done anything.
No one else had snuck in, one hundred percent certain about that, so besides Kyou, no one else could be responsible.

Alexi shouted at her companion, an Graficcha began to see the workings of the transformation. People losing to a second entity within them... so many warnings, books written, legends told... Yes, she understood.

Lindin... Lindin! Oh, Kyou-san, WHY?!

Cold and full of worry, she watched the ordeal. Just like Alexi, she called out to Lindin, but in a silent, horrified look that tried to get throught to him. Graf's haze of dimmer light lashed out, but she herself was too scared, too petrified to do anything besides uttering a soft 'ah', while trying not to blow her cover.

If this keeps up..
Graf was already preparing to step in to help the half-Rathiel, but Alexi came first.
The little sneak was honestly relieved to see that this angelic woman defended her friend. If she hadn't, Graficcha would have, and her respect for this transhuman would have diminished greatly. It touched her deeply to see how Alexi seemed to care for Lindin, though, and the warmth returned in the centre of the cold.

Graficcha relaxed a just little... Alexi seemed to know what the problem was. At least, now she knew for sure that Kyou had cast some spell on him. Graf prayed that things oul turn out alright for Lindin... she was so scared for him...
The way he had stood up after sagging to the floor like a broken man, that had frightened her. That short time of mind-to-mind contact had taught her that this was NOT standard behaviour for his kind.

Still tense with worry, Graf continued to stand by, ready to bolt in and do whatever necessary to prevent worse. She kept a clear eye on Kyou, and on Lindin and Alexi.

Please be alright in there.. she thought towards the dragon-like creature that she hoped still harboured the terran part of the transhuman. Only with both parts intact, she knew, he'd be able to remain the himself.

Truthfully, Kyou had never expected Lindin's reaction to be THIS drastic! The spell he performed on him was just a simple mind barrier spell to prevent him from projecting his mind or thoughts out of his own head, in other words 'caging' his mind in. Little did he knew that there was another mind caged in Lindin's head.

When he saw Lindin fall to the floors, Alexi running over, and Lindin rising into the air in an abnormal way, he instinctively started to chant a defensive spell. Hugging his grocery bag tighter with one arm, he used his other to draw a small circle and a 6-point star in mid air, his eyes like before, shone a yellow as his hand drew on an invisible canvas. When he finished there was an invisible force field protecting him, and that was also when Lindin started to tranform into this hideous reptile creature. Eyes wide, Kyou backed away a little as the creature charged towards him. He knew the invisible shield he just conjured is enough to block Lindin off, he had used it numerous times in his expeditions when he met with even more ferocious creatures than Lindin. But he instinctively raised the grocery bag up a little in front of him, as if that could protect him too. Dr. Kyou is not as brave as people thought he should be, although he may look like half a demon, but he used to be a human after all. Closing his eyes, he waited for the impact, but there was none. Curious, he opened his eyes a little and peeked over the raised grocery bag to see that the creature was held back by Alexi.

Lazarus had sensed some magical force in the reception area, and it wasn't just Kyou's, there was someone else as well. He was always very sharp with these kind of things. Out of curiosity and somewhat attracted by it, Lazarus had emerged from the insides of the lab to see what was going on. What he saw wasn't something very pleasant, but somehow it terrifies and excited him at the same time. Kyou was in danger, but Lazarus just stood in place, just outside the sliding lab doors. Part of him wanted to charge forwards and protect Kyou, but at the same time, there was a mixed feeling of terror and adoration for the creature Kyou was facing. His mixed feelings was giving him a hard time to keep his mind clear, so instead he floated towards the terrified Chloe behind the reception desk instead, keeping a close eye to what was going on.

The anger Kyou had for Alexi right now had dispersed and the only emotions flooding through him was shock. He listened to Alexi's plea quietly, trying to calm himself down at the same time. He eyed the creature wearily as Alexi spoke. Surely he didn't expected this man's mind could be so complicated. "Okay." He finally spoke after considering Alexi's words a little. "I will remove the spell I casted on him, but he is not allowed to use any magic at all in this premise. I do not appreciate strangers using magical powers here without my permission." Then his eyes glow yellow again, holding the grocery bag with one hand like before, he held a hand to Lindin's reptilian head and chanted a dispel spell.

Alexi breathed a sigh of relief at Kyou's words, despite the power that still emanated from them. "Thank you Kyou." Her shoulders sagged a little and she backed away. It was like speaking with a god almost, and really, this lab was his domain. She felt a little safer now that he had agreed to dispell his curse.

It was weird though. She knew Lindin hadn't really tried to do anything magical. The last time she had sensed deliberate magical use was when he blew that cigarette up in the air. Perhaps what Kyou believed was magic wasn't anything more than her race's innate ability to speak with other beings with their minds. This ability was tied into their Tolarkien roots, since the Tolarkien didn't have mouths they had adapted instead a way of speaking through pictures and projected memories. Perhaps one reason that he could have thought it was magic was because of Lindin's constant use of it to maintain his physical form. Maybe she should explain.

Lindin, or rather, the beast that was Lindin shied away in the meantime, backing away from Kyou's touch instinctively before the human part of him got control. He edged back toward the warlock-doctor slowly. The rough surfaces of his scales were apparent against the man's skin, and as the dispelling completed, Lindin began to shift back into his regular form. A mouth began to re-appear on his head, his eyes moved closer together, and he regained his human hair. It happened so fluidly that, if one wondered why the transformation into the beast was so horrible and uneven.

Alexi fussed and steadied her lover with her arms, covering him quickly with his clothes again. They were a bit stretched and ragged but one good thing about them was that during the transformation, they tended to slough off. They were intact at least in the necessary places. Lindin kissed Alexi's shoulder in thanks as she embraced him. "So...embarassed....sorry 'Lexi...." he whispered. He collapsed to the floor then, sliding up against the wall to recuperate, breathing heavily with sweating dripping down his smooth chiseled chest, which was pretty much bare, the only thing roughly covering it was his overcoat, which was draped over his lap. Seeing him all worn out like this, she felt the need to say something. "Shh...quiet now...you did your best."

"Kyou, I think I need to tell you that Lindin wasn't using anything intentionally magical." She tried to steady Lindin against the wall and then rose to meet Kyou's eyes face to face. "He knows not to thoughtspeak now. But I need to make sure you know that its nothing extremely magical, just another language, and cannot harm or be used to delve into another's mind. There is a power that some of us have that lets us read minds, but Lindin doesn't carry it. His telepathy is a trait passed to us because of the fact that Tolarkien, the creatures we are melded with, spoke only through thought, having no mouths to communicate with."

It was easy enough to remember an example of a Tolarkien who didn't have a mouth, the picture and memory of Lindin as a Rathien was all too recent to forget.

"We are forever linked together in a collective consciousness, in essence. That part, he cannot control, and I also carry that trait, but I can simply hide it better." She grinned a little. "I'm much older than he is, despite how I look."

"Perhaps there is something more that you might be reacting to," she suggested. "And that is probably the way he's holding his body together, as well as the sometimes random flares of power that he gets despite all he's doing to use it up fighting his demon. You saw what happens when he has no power left. I guess I could explain it this way." She tried to think of a good example, twirling a lock of silver hair in her finger as she thought.

Having taken care of Lindin, she helped relieve Kyou of his groceries, setting them over by the reception desk. She was about to give him a rather lengthy explanation, he shouldn't have to stand with a bag of groceries teetering in his arms. Then she began her explanation.

"Imagine us as pipes of power with a faucet at the end. I am a faucet that is turned to the off position for the most part. My energy potential isn't that high but I know how to control it with precision and turn it on and off at will. Pressure could build up and it wouldn't matter much. Lindin...he's special. He's like a pipe with way too much water pressure behind it. If he didn't keep his faucet on a slightly on position, he would eventually build up so much power that he'd explode."

"At the same time, because of the fact that he has so much power even with a slight trickle from his energy reserves, what he can do when he's completely unhinged is very frightening. He has powers over chaos, and that is a pretty broad-ranging topic. I've seen what he can do if he loses himself to the power." She shuddered. That memory was far worse than this one of him simply doing a change into a Rathien. She suspected that the world had only warped slightly because the Rathien too had its powers caged. Lindin's counterpart, she thought, was that of a fledgling Tolarkien God. Part of the reason she fell in love with him was because despite his burden and youth, Lindin had kept strong.

"Lindin may still seem like he's using his powers to you right now even as he continues to maintain his current form. He won't do anything intentionally magical, but his power level will seem to be leaking still. I hope you can understand, I know Lindin and despite his hate for authority, he abides by the rules that others set in their own homes." He's too drained to even do anything now anyway if something came along to fight him she cursed silently inside her head. She secretly blamed herself for it.

Meanwhile, Lindin had recovered a little by that time. He could feel again, and the return of his senses from complete darkness made him a little sensitive to it, as if he had just walked out into the sunlight after being in a house too long. It was probably only because of this that he sensed that his new companion was still there, just hiding around in the shadows of the room, compelling everyone to look the other way. He smiled a bit. Maybe thats why noone had recognized this girl, despite the fact that she seemed to be here enough to know a lot about the place.

Chloe Alexi suddenly thought. Looking around, she didn't see the timid labtech anywhere. Then she noticed with a smile that she was hiding behind the receptionist's desk, and Alexi really couldn't blame her. Seeing Lindin change gave people nightmares. She doubted Chloe would suffer that fate though - she seemed to have a good head on her shoulders.

While she was at it, she might as well investigate the other players in the room, to get an idea of who she was dealing with. There was some sort of energy signature back there though that perplexed Alexi. It was somewhat familiar, but unlike any she'd seen before. She'd sensed it before the last time she was here, she thought. But it wasn't as powerful then, it had been rather faint, perhaps, being formed. As the sliding doors opened, she turned to look at it, her eyes greeted with such a strange and new sight. Could this be a Raevan? If she had met this creature before, it had changed so much that she couldn't recognize it by sight.

And where was that other girl? She find the other girl that had been in the room. Which was very strange, she swore that there had been another girl there. Had she slipped out the door? For a brief moment during Lindin's plight, Alexi had noticed the girl's stark face change expressions, between horror to hate, to concern, to relief, but thats as much as she had seen. Lindin had been talking to her. She wouldn't be far, she couldn't be far.

Something compelled her suddenly to stop looking. She didn't resist, and simply redirected her eyes back to Kyou, who still seemed to be a little taken back at what had just happened. There was still some sort of barrier around him, she could see, but it wavered a little and disappeared from her senses.

"Kyou, this may be a bad time, but I wanted to finish what I started before." She bowed her head in respect. "I was hoping that I could pick up Kalec, who has, I understand, become a Frei in my absense and put in stasis. I apologize for not coming earlier. You deserve an explanation. I was in fact, killed not a week after I had first dropped off my bottle and vial to Chloe here in the lab."

She paused a little, attempting to figure out the words necessary to describe the incident, her head cocked sideways a little in contemplation. "We have a war going on in my homeworld, as you know already. I believe I mentioned it last time we met. But there are some details you don't know, and one of the new ones is that both sides of the fight have recently begun to create Avatars. Large mecha-like machines that look a little like transhumans, with multiple souls living inside that control the mechanisms. I have an Avatar of my own. But in any case, they are capable of extreme destruction and carnage. I unfortunately, was the target of a specific group of them, and while I did fight off two of them, the last one crushed me." She winced a little at the memory.

"Its a little much to absorb at once, I know, but the reason I am standing here today is because Lindin was able to duplicate a method used by his father to re-integrate my consciousness and soul into a new clone. I'm still trying to get used to this new body, actually, and my new body is getting used to having memories that aren't its own, but its getting easier." She smiled winningly, and with this new knowledge in mind, one could easily see that she seemed younger, her skin a little less marked or rough. The obvious difference was that she seemed less ready to do battle, she wasn't wearing her battle armor for instance despite carrying her sword, and was wearing a black flowing dress. But it wasn't just the outfit, it was something about her stance, the way she reacted to things, and the way she moved. This was the old Alexi, but a new one all at once.

In the background, Lindin had started to sit up straight. It was while she was speaking and had attention focused to her that she moved his mouth ever so slightly. "I'm here, Graf. I'm okay, dun worry 'bout me none suga'." He tried to smile and slid a little further down the wall into the corner, where he could feel her very slight and hidden presence. His chest was still gleaming, scales showing where skin was taut against bone. Something about his anatomy was different from a normal human's though, the skeleton shaped ever so differently. The tattoo of a dragon in flight laced his left abdomen, a trio of scars like a claw-mark played across his muscled chest.

"Is it possible for me to attone for my past sins and take over my responsibilities for my Raevan again?" Alexi's face was a picture of hope. "I'd like to finish what I started, perhaps to contribute to your research by raising the child and reporting my findings, and to simply get to know some of the people here at the lab. There are, I'm sure, a lot of new faces and differences for me to get used to, but I'm confident I can adapt to the changes." Her heart, black and mechanical as it was, beat quickly in anticipation. She had no idea how this would turn out, and knew that even if it turned out favorably, she may have to do quite a bit to restore Kyou's faith and opinion of her again.
