It has been a really long time since I've posted some of my work. In the past four months I've been getting my work together to submit for college. It definitley was a challenge, but by December 1st I sent in my applications and all. Since then I've been accepted into Savannah College of Art and Design as well as Rhode Island School of Design. I'm currently waiting on Cleveland Institute of Art to procees my application. If anyone has some advice or information on college or any comments on some of the pieces, please post! Thanks

I was considering going to art school. Maybe the Art Institute of Chicago or something. But, in the end there's always someone out there who'd better. I don't feel like I'll make much of a life with it all. That's why I'm going to study art as a hobby. other than that, I'm planning to focus on further studying Japanese. be a Teacher or something.

I can see where you're coming from. Seeing all of the amazing works just in this guild is quite intimidating... I just figure that if I will have to work most of my life, I'd much rather do something I love, than sit in a cubicle if possible.

And it's pretty awesome that you want to lean Japanese. If I ever have enough money after college and such, my hobby is definitely going to be traveling. I can't wait to go to Europe and other places.

Is the bike there because you're applying for RISD, or do you just have a pic of a bike in your portfolio?

It was for RISD. I liked it even though it was a required piece.

I go to SCAD now, so if you have any questions - I'm willing to answer them.

Although, in pure honesty, I do think that SCAD is better for more commercial kinds of art rather than the 'fine-arts' painter type. What major are you going for?

That's awesome that you go there. I'm planning on majoring in Illustration and possibly getting a minor in painting. Most likely I'll be visiting Savannah over my school's spring break to get a feel for the college.

One question I have for you would be how far did you have to move from home to go to SCAD, and if it was a long distance, say from Ohio, how hard was it for you to adjust to college living? Thanks.

Wow, I'm taking a week to respond to this - I'm sorry.

Anyway, I came from Bermuda, a small little country in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean - far away from home? Yes. Most people don't know anything about where I'm from, and they assume it's from the Bahamas. I can't call home a lot either, because it's terribly expensive and inconvenient.

I miss home every now and then, don't get me wrong, but I really love my college and I miss it when I'm back at home.

You're away from home, yes, but so is everyone else. Everyone around you is going through the exact same thing, and generally I've found that it's a pretty friendly student campus here. Turn around and talk to someone in class, and they're likely to talk back. I just messaged my fellow incoming students back and forth on Facebook before I started (it was fun to get giddy with others, heh), and then when college started I crossed myself against awkwardness, and started to go out and visit people I'd spoken to. I'd just say; "Hey, I'm soandso, we spoke on Facebook." or something - and they'd have a blank look, recognition, and then they'd invite me in and hang out.

As long as you put yourself out there, the adjustment goes pretty smoothly. Just don't let yourself get stuck in your room all day, and go out and join clubs and such. It's a little bit easier, because SCAD puts all the Freshmen together - so everyone is dealing with the same thing.

Thanks a lot for your advice. It will definitely help out a lot!
