True Rune of Punishment is my personal favorite, battle and storyline.

In battle, it lets you conduct some form of strategy, making you think about the ways to use it so it would do more damage to your enemies and less to you, but in a way that won't drive you insane like the True Fire Rune would.

It made for a great storyline, too. The Rune of Punishment, as we all know, sucks the life out of the bearer little by little, making it so that instead of immortality, the poor sap unlucky enough to get it has a few years to live at the very most. Each bearer is tragic in his own special way, too, but that's besides the point. So, even in-game the bearer has to think about when and if s/he should use the Rune. Due to the Rune's tragic nature, nearly all of its bearers lives instantly start to suck, and they all eventually die, and alone if the current pattern is to go by. So, not only does the Rune kill the bearer, leaving his/her loved ones devastated by the loss, it then moves on to the closest person, starting the whole cycle over again. What's worse is that if, by grace of God, the Rune's master manages to get into the Forgiveness phase, s/he is immortal and so has to live forever, watching his/her friends die, facing living alone for eternity, knowing that s/he can't possibly give the Rune up or the whole cycle will start anew.

In essence, it's a parasite of epic proportions. It makes it's masters' lives curses, burdening them with certain death, and even if they do manage to get into Forgiveness, they might as well have died because then their lives will be empty in a matter of decades.

I like the true rune of water... sweatdrop I don't know exactly why it's my favorite, though.
