The morning air was crisp, cool and deliciously wet after the drizzle of rain that had lasted all night. It made the ground around the river muggy and suck at her hooves, but the air delightfully clean. Good for running, she acknowledged faintly as she walked briskly along the length of the swollen riverbed, heading out in search of firmer ground where she could cavort about and make a right fool of herself in the hazy early morning light.

Rain snorted, nostrils flaring in the chill, the muscles in her neck and over her back, her haunches, rippling as she kept her stride lengthened in an attempt to warm up, to get the stiff sluggish feeling out of her joints.

A good start to the day.

So far, anyway.

The rain had been expected but that didn't mean he particularly appreciated being drenched. While airbourne he had endured a somewhat brutal onslaught of droplets and yet, as he had landed upon the soggy ground he couldn't help but smile. Despite the rather unpleasant feeling on his skin, the rain had left the air fresh and he sighed appreciatively as the wind caressed his muzzle and reminded him of how much worse it had been when it was humid.

"Lovely." He murmured more so to himself than anything as he flicked his gaze towards the rivers and pursed his lips. It had always been a subject of interest for him, how the land changed beneath his feet and before his very eyes as he soared above - but now that he was on the ground, it seemed so much more incredible.

...He could actually see, touch and smell the changes. Although he had to wonder how the grass did not drown beneath the heavy weight of the extra water that licked at the banks.

The world smelled fresh and new, sharp and clean under the grey sky of morning. Rain ambled along, perfectly content to schquelp her way through the boggy ground of the river bank. When she caught the change of smell, though, it was obvious - came over like a tingling at the edge of her senses, different from the gurgling tang of the river or the smell of sweet, damp grass.

The mare lifted her poll, drawing to a stop and waiting for a moment, her withers twitching away a gnat or two that had zeroed in on her. Her ears flicked back and forth expectantly. A moment afterward, she struck out away from the immediate bank of the river, striding up to the slight ridge that followed the same path as the riverbed itself, the ground up there damp but firm. With the sharp curiosity that only fresh mornings like this one could ellict, Rain set off after the smell of the other Soquili, mindful to keep herself downwind of the very slight breeze.

Just in case.

She found him after a minute or so of bumbling along, stopping again when she'd caught that bright flash of color on the otherwise rather muted landscape. Rain blinked and inhaled the smell, cocking her head slightly to the side.

"Selu," she muttered absently to herself. "You're all manner of colors."

Had Grencia heard her mutters clearly, he suspected he might have quirked a brow and offered a sheepish smile but instead he simply offered a nod. He had grown used to people pointing out how extravagant he was to the point that he was truly flattered, but he had never quite let it get to his head - Yei had been a good reason not to, she seemed physically repulsed by him!

"Good morning." He offered in a soft tone, the words flowing delicately off his tongue to drift across the somewhat tame breezes. "A pleasant day, would you not agree?" He continued, a warm smile developing on his equine lips as he gave a toss of his head to remove the whiskers from his eyes (they were a hindrance, even if a source of amusement).

Even so, as he spoke he did take the opportunity to allow his eyes to drift over her form briefly and he quickly discerned that she was not a threat, nor particularly violent...good news as he could relax and enjoy the morning even in the company of one such as her...

Oh, good. He wasn't a crazy psychopath - at least, didn't seem like one right off. Sometimes one had to be careful about these things. With a faint sigh, Rain lapsed back into a stature of reasonable comfort. That said, she didn't exactly wander down from the ridge of dirt either.

"Yes," she agreed pleasantly enough. "It looks like it's shaping up to be nice." She eyed the sky in a measuring fashion, one ear flicked away from the stallion. "Maybe a little drizzle in the afternoon, though." Then again, there was probably just as equal a chance that the sky would clear up and it would be never ending blue skies by mid-afternoon. Hmph, weather and it's apparent lack of a pattern.

Ah well, a little rain never killed anyone. Unless... Rain's attention strayed shamelessly toward the other Soquili's visibly damp wings. Well, she clarified mentally. A nice little shower never killed anyone. Unholy buffets of rain and lightning probably had though.

If only she had known. He smiled faintly as she glanced at his wings and unfurled them slightly to reveal the lightly battered flight feathers beneath. They weren't beyond repair, but they did look oddly ruffled and indicated that he had been flying at such a height that the high winds near the clouds had taken their toll.

Not that he minded.

"You can read the weather, m'lady?" He asked tentatively, his head tilting to the side ever to slightly as he focused on the female in question. He had never boasted the ability to read the mind (particularly a female mind) and thus, when a soquili said that he would take it literally until otherwise corrected.

"An admirable skill, if I must say so myself." He continued as he folded his wings once more and allowed his smile to grow.

Rain looked away from his wings quickly, smiling ruefully. "Don't be silly," she remarked cheerfully, as if the very idea of reading the weather - actually, really knowing and not just guessing - was absolutely preposterous. "It's just suspicion. The air smells damp, the clouds are hanging around, it's only logical."

Or maybe she was being too presumptuous. She shifted a little awkwardly where she stood.

"In any case, if we're lucky the sun'll chase all the clouds away before they can go do anything foul." It didn't feel like it was warming up very quickly, though. The air wasn't exactly beginning to be muggy like it would have been had the temperature been on the rise. IF that was the case, all the air would have felt stiff and heavy - a good morning for sleeping rather than ambling about aimlessly.

"Ah, I see." Grencia replied politely as Rain explained herself and her 'gift' in greater detail. It seemed that she was reasonably modest, approachable as well and thus he smiled and made the effort to move towards her as opposed to maintaining the distance between them - it seemed rather hostile to be at such a distance, almost as though in a face off!

"Regardless of whether or not you can read the weather in a precise manner." He continued as he came to a halt a little closer to her and tossed his mane away from his eyes once again, "You still possess the ability to guess based upon the signs - I for one do not possess the ability to draw conclusions from so many factors." He confessed and flicked his gaze upwards pointedly.

"For example, I see a grey sky and I can smell the damp...but I would have assumed the 'damp' was from the drenched foliage."
