The sun was moving closer and closer to the horizon. It was a good enough time to go hunt. Not too hot and most of the larger predators were most likely still asleep or just getting up. He would be safe for now. He look over his shoulder at his ever growing pack. The little ones were getting so big now, they soon wouldn't need him watching them from afar as he did.
Though that brought a sad twinge to his heart, he enjoyed having things to take care of. He called back that he was going out for a hunt. The spotted male moved at a trot, he first had to find some prey. He hoped that the ampala pack hadn't moved to far away, it would be bad to drag a body back with him for too far a distance.
Violet orbs scanned the area from the shadow of a tree. There, in the distance was a small ampala pack. He nodded to himself and stepped forward, he had to get closer and downwind.

Kainga watched the ampala pack from a distance, she lay in a patch of grass. She had her head on her paws, she had no intention of hunting. No she knew better than that, she would never be able to keep up with them not in her state. The ground wobled again, she was thirsty and had been searching for water almost a full day now untill she came to the very spot she was resting in. Her thirst had made her dizzy, so perhaps she was only imagining the creature in the distance.
She blinked hopeing to clear her vision but the creature was still there, a frown spread across her face. it looks bigger than the ampala she thought. Her ears flattened against her head, in hopes that it would keep her more hidden though the color of her fur suggested she would be almost immediatly spotted by someone who was looking close enough.

Violet orbs were focused solely on the herd in front of him. Those eyes flashed violently around, searching for one too young, too old, or just not able to keep up with the rest.
Haveo was always quick to spot the target, which usually meant that he lead the hunts, unless Haiji was with them. Ever since he left his first home he depended soley upon himself. Now that he had others to care for, he had to hone his sense even sharper.
There! It was injured, it's leg held up as it tried to hobbled around to get to the good undershrubs. He slinked along the shadows until he was positioned just right. Tactics flew through his head as his eyes glazed over. The feel of the hunt coming over him.
He waiting for it to start moving and then he rushed out of the shadows. His body moved swiftly, closing distance fast. It turned, he went two. He had a much better endurance and step than this little thing. A smirk came to his face as he watched it stumble a bit. It was his chance.
He sped up, closing his jaws around a part of its neck, as the two giures rolled arond in the dirt. He surely didn't have the bite strength to crush it's jugular but with a few more deep bites it was probably too far in shock to try to struggle, none the less, he kept his jaws upon it.
His eyes cleared and he looked up. Those same eyes narrowed spotting the other wild dog. He scanned her over, recognizing what was over coming her. He wasn't one to let another of his kind suffer. He stood fully up, a gentle yet stern face upon his face. He would let the other address him first.

She watched the creature she finally recognized as another wild dog bound foreward. Her eyes searched for the target, it was an injured ampala. Pity embodied her as the wild dog sunk his teeth into the creatures neck.
"poor thing" she whispered, She was perhaps too compassionate. It was certainly causing her hunger, her diet in the jungle consisted of lush plants, usually leaves. Not only because she felt bad for killing another thing but because hunting in the jungle was hard, there was all kind of low branches to duck and things to jump over in the chase she just didnt have it in her.
She liked the jungle it was vacant of most large hunter type creatures like lions and even other wild dogs. Invoulantarily her ears perked up with the wild dog spotted her. Panic set into her body before she could think it through she was standing up, her eyes wide with fear, she had completely forgotten her thirst. Though it hadnt been an eternity since she crossed paths with another her kind, he was substantially bigger than the Adolecent she had met some days ago in the jungle. Only the second wild dog she had met since being abandoned by her mother and siblings.
She urged her limbs to move, to turn and flee but she got no such obedience from them. Instead she stood there like a statue, staring him down. Since there was nothing her body could do for her maybe her voice could
"H-Hello, I dont mean any harm" she figured that was a good a start as any " I'm not hunting your food eaither, i'm just passing through"

Again, he scanned over her form seeing the same things he had before he had come to the pack. Her body was tired, hungry, and on high alert. Sighed, it would be fine. His pack was understanding. He could always go after another one any ways.
"Eat. You need it." Haveo backed off from the body, maintaining eye contact. There was a chance that the larger predators may come around now that the scent of a kill was in the air. Though he couldn't fight a water buffalo or a lion, he was fit enough to dsitract them. Enough for her fight or flight sense to kick in.
He was stern, but his soul was compassionate. Even if he seemed like he was being harsh, he knew that whatever it was would help who ever it was. So far it hadn't turned back on him.

Kianga didnt even realize she was hungry untill the stranger offered up his kill to her. Violent hunger pains controlled her stomach and willed her a few steps foreward. She paused to watch the others expression. Is he being sincere? she asked herself. What kind of creature would offer up their prey to a stranger? Still..he looks kind enough
It seemed her legs did not care about the possible danger because they took her straight up to the stranger. Her pink eye scanned him over, he had yellow in his fur just like her, she liked that it gave her something to relate to. Still her eyes never met his and she looked to the kill lieing on the ground as she spoke.
"I'm Kianga, and a bit lost" she admitted, ashamed of her weak sense of direction. Not that she had any paticular destination in mind she just didn't know where she was. Without waiting for his reply she looked over the dead or dieing ampala on the ground, which it was she didnt know and at the point she couldnt care.
She tore off a chunk of the animals flesh and devoured it quickly, it was good..better than anything she had been having.

The male smiled, watching the female accept his offer. That was good. She woldn't go hungry for awhile.
His gaze strayed to the sun, it just hit the flat horizon. Good, there would still be enough time for him to go hunting without worrying about the lions.
"You are in the pridelands. It's most likely one of the safer places to be. Most lions here aren't too horrible. The areas to avoid are the lands of the Firekin and the Graveyard. The kinds that live there are more keen on hurting others."
He was glad that his pack moved around alot. It gave him an opportunity to learn more about the lands. The male wanderd after he left his first family and knowing he could still move around the lands made him rather happy.
Haveo's smile grew a bit more, watching her relesh the meat. He bowed his head a bit, glad that he could help another wild dog.

She listened to him and soaked in his words trying to remember where it was she wasnt supposed to go. Not that it mattered much, if she was there she probably wouldnt even know it.
She tore of a few more chunks from the dead animal and finnished, she was the runt of her litter so naturally she was tiny and didnt need as much food as most would. 3/4 of the ampala lay still intact. "I'm finnished" Her voice was strained and hesitant, she hadnt really had the chance to experience kindness and it was still an oddity to her. It wasnt so much that she didnt trust him, she didnt trust her own perception of things.
"You didnt say your name?" she decided to ask. She backed up a few paces and sat down upon the cold ground. Her eye too floated up towards the sky to glance at the position of the sun before they came to rest back upon the strangers face.

His gaze stayed upon her. On the inside he was chuckling. The shy types were really amusing.
"Haveo. A hunter of the Hamaji pack." Perhaps...maybe...he couldn't force her. But perhaps she would be interested in their little group? It was hard for a wild dog to live on their own. They weren't built to be solo hunters. Plus, the feel of a pack was just....so good.
The male had no problem with having to watch over two different packmates, teaching them the way of the pack. It was something he was getting better at each day. Though sure it was odd of him to go off hunting alone but as long the pack was secure. He was efficient in it.
He looked down at the carcass. There was enough for some of the pups, and the adults have eaten less than before. He'd just have to drag that one back to them and just go out into the night. Haveo shrugged at the idea, he could do it.

"Haveo.." she repeated it to herself, she didnt want to forget. She at pawed the dirt anxiously, watching the dust fly. Her eyes wandered away towards the ampala pack who had settled again about 100 feet away. It was getting darker outside and she didnt want Haveo to return to his pack with a partially eaten carcass. Especially not on her account.
She looked up at the pinkening sky and back to Haveo, he was bigger than she would have thought, or maybe she was just small. She cowered a bit.
"I can help you catch another one?" she offered but it came out more like a question. She had no experience hunting such large animals, the biggest thing she had ever caught was a meerkat.

Haveo smiled gently. He very well understood, her body grew faster than her mind. But she had just had a meal in a long while and she still needed actual water.
A darker voice inside him sneered that she would only be a hinderance to his hunt and he quickly hushed it. He would be no good to the pack if he held himself too high up. It would just be best if he said yes. She could get some experience out of this hunt, it would be good for her if he did.
"Alright Kianga." He sighed and then looked back at her. His face was serious, there was no sort of gentleness in his eyes. This was a hunt. Emotions could not interfer. He looked to the herd, indigo eyes scanning them again. There. Another injured one. It was a lucky night."The ampala are already nervous since my last attack. This makes it harder, but all we have to do is out think them." He faced the pack, to show her everything he saw.
"You will stay here, keep crouched low, use your spots to blend in with the grass. I'll go around and single out an injured one bringing it closer to you. When it's close enough, you must, must, grab it. Be it leg or neck or just extra skin. We're heavier and stronger than them, it's not impossible."
It was a common plan that the pack used. It was a sad fact that the one who was least experienced or inured was usually on the receiving end but it took a lot more experience and skill to keep the prey going in the right direction. A slight miscalculation could mess it all up. He moved away, keeping down wind. Though he had one last thought and looked over his shoulder, and smiled at the fem. "Don't worry. Have confidence, your instincts will take over. I assure you this."

A sigh of releif heaved in her chest when he accepted her offer, she couldnt face the thought of pups going hungry because of her. She knew what it was like to be neglected as a pup, her mother had done it to her and her siblings.
Kianga's eye flicked from the ampala to Haveo as he explained what it was she needed to do. It sounded easy enough for her, just grab onto it no matter what. Then again that was putting a lot of pressure on her. She saw the darkening of his expression, he clearly meant business. What if she failed? What if she couldnt even catch an injured ampala. She couldnt take the dissapointment on his face or even on her concience. Her mind waged war upon itself as Haveo set off toward the ampala. If she left now she could get away without facing dissapointment. No she thought..I cant be a coward forever
She decided instead as she waited, crouched in the grass to wonder where it was she would be sleeping tonight, the lands around her seemed rather vacant save for some rocks she didnt really see a safe place she could spend the night.

Haveo positioned himself, keeping low to the grass. His eyes were trained onto the injured one. It at last looked down, moving to get a nice line of the shrubs.
With a leap he sprinted towards the ampala, its packmates spreading out. He swirved as it tried to get itno a group, cutting it off. His eyes kept flashing between it and Kianga. He had to give her the right moment for her to strike. He curved again, driving it so that it would just barely go the the right of her.
He didn't dare slow down. As much as he wanted to believe in her, if she didn't make it he'd have to chase it into the heavier brush. It would be really hard for both of them but since the prey was injured it would most likely trip.
Close. The moment for Kianga was close. "Now!"

Her body ached from the mix of anticipation and nerves. She didnt even know if he was going to tell her when she should go or not. She didnt even bother to blink as she watched Haveo work, it was obvious he was very experienced.
She crept up a bit so she could get a better look, her belly dragged in the dirt as she inched foreward. She kept her face in the grasses. The injured ampala was coming right towards her followed by Haveo, shouting for her to take the defensless animal down. She had no time to change her mind it was too late.
Finally after all her years alone and hungry her instincts kick in now, she leapt up and did a bee line towards the ampala. Her feelings of sympathy for the creature had all evaporated, her only thoughts were how she could take it down. Her adrenaline was at an all time high as she attatched her claws into the creatures rump. She felt them slip a few inches lower as she struggled to get her face close enough to sink her teeth in, she must have looked absoluetly silly. Kianga finally managed to grab the animal around the leg, right below the hock, she felt the weigh of the animal collapse and hit the ground. The ampala struggled still though it was down it kicked out it legs, hitting her numerous times she only hoped the Haveo was on his way to kill it, she coudnt risk letting go of it now.

Haveo was quick to rush to the fallen body. He went straight to the neck, he didn't have time for it to die slowly. His jaw closed around the smaller part of the neck, right below the head. His teeth sunk deep and just ripped it away. He this a few more time until it stopped it's bucking.
Looking down in his he sneered seeing it's open, glazed eye. He hated seeing dead eyes. He quickly scrated it out letting the fluids and blood run over the snout. He looked to the female, smiling.
"You did well Kianga. It's your first step into becoming a master huntress." His breath was fast, his adrenaline rushing away. She was quick to understand orders. Soon she'll learn how to use her own instincts to hunt on her own.
Though...this tactic was only good if there were two wild dogs. He had to teach her a lot more if she was to be successfull on her own. Haveo sighed, he couldn't just randomly leave the pack to teach her, there were other things he had to do.
"Kianga...I'd like to teach you more...but as long as you are on your own I can't come out. That is...unless you join us. The Hamaji pack I mean."
