The unusually warm night seemed to sing in the young adolescent goddesses ears, the earth was in a good mood and with each breath Boma'burudi pulled into her lungs she could feel the song invading her, forcing her to be in a good mood. She hummed softly adding in her own melody to the already swirling currents, deep down inside she knew she was singing to her babies and felt that the earth was singing a lullaby, as well.
As soon as the lovely moment had come it was soon interrupted by the sudden pain in her abdomen. The interruption jolted Boma from her elation and she came back to her senses, these babies would be coming, and soon. Then what? Would she keep them or give them to Mtima to care for? The love and excitement that should be with motherhood was there, it shouldn't be. It had a bitter sweet taste and she was sure it would stay in her mouth like the taste of stagnant water that you just cannot shake at first.
"Alright..if you're coming..Alright..promise your momm-" she couldn't say mommy, just couldn't, "Promise me you wont take too much time in coming.." or going?

With a gasp and one last pain she pushed the last cub, and soon came the afterbirth her heart swollen with pride and accomplishment, she looked down at three beautiful cubs, two females and one male. They mewed softly calling out to her and she frowned…should she call back? "I'm here, Boma is here," not mommy...I'm not your mommy..
There was still pain, but it dulled as she looked at the tiny squirming white forms, "Great mother earth, what will I do.." she cooed to them and felt relief as they moved forward and started to nurse, they huddled against her for warmth, and each suckling body touched one another. The sudden feelings and knowledge of her child before them flooded in and she sighed.
With exhaustion and sadness she feel asleep cuddled around her white young, still covered in afterbirth and mess. She would clean them soon.

The again unusually warm morning crept upon her, it was the cold months on the savannah and she found herself curling closer and pulling her wings over her young to make sure they were warm enough, cubs need the warmth.
As she peared like a bird beneath her feathers, almost looking like a parrot trying to preen herself. She pressed her nose between the tangle of bodies and came face to face with the small white male. "Hello, little one..." She was sure there was possibly no way that they would remember her, she wasn't keeping them, she was giving them to Mtima, and Mtima would bring them to Kubwa, that's the end..she wouldn't keep small mortal babes..not now..not ever..not again.
Her face shifted to the two sisters, they had not squirmed or moved to see their Boma's face, in awkward terror Boma pressed her cold nose against the first body, "Morning little one, you should feed," she whispered humbly, no reaction from the girl. Heart pounding she stood, uncircling herself from them.
The little male let out a mew, and in her panic Boma turned to him to ensure he was alright, nothing had happened to him.
"Dead..little one..dead?" She placed a paw on the unmoving sister, "Up?" No response, a gut wrenching sadness clutched her, she could feel the foul pain in her mind as well as body..she had lost the first of this litter, from what she assumed was the night air. Turning she pressed her paw to the second sister, and again found no reaction.

Meanwhile...
It was early in the morning, and Mtima'safi found herself unable to sleep any longer. She was generally feeling uneasy, so much was happening in a very short span of time and she had no idea how to handle a lot of it. At least she'd kept Kilango's brief return out of Wahabu's mind, but her conversation with her was still on her mind. So many cubs lately.. Kilango, at least, was in love and was planning it. Supposedly.
With her mind already full of thoughts and concerns, Mtima took herself quietly out of the den to try to enjoy the morning. It was somewhat warm, and that in itself somewhat cheered her up. Quietly, she stood calmly and watched the horizon for no particular reason. Watching the sunrise and distance was sometimes relaxing, just letting yourself slip into a daze..

Boma'burudi was half knocked half jarred to her senses as her surviving cub mewed. She was determined that this one would live, and that forced her to make the decision even quicker, she would start heading towards Mtima's den. The young goddess assumed that the reason they died was her, of course it was her..they would have lived if they had a better mother, but she wasn't their mother...right? She was..was their Boma. Scooping the youngling up and onto her back, she started to pad slowly, she kept him in a somewhat cage between her wings.
Gently, and reassured by the presence of his needle like claws in her fur she made her way to Mtima's she was slightly off in the distance, the sun at her back. She would most likely seem like a winged silohette to Mtima...?

The longer Mtima watched the horizon, the more aware she became of a strange shape heading her way- or seeming to head her way. It was a strange shape to be sure, and somewhat shiny. It took a moment of squinting to realize what she was seeing- she only knew one form like that! It had to be Boma, and with her returning this way she knew it could only mean one of two things. She was either having the cubs, or she already had..
She's somewhat hoped that Boma would have changed her mind and not showed up, instead keeping them with her. It didn't seem it would be so, unless Boma was coming to say so. Too anxious to stay put, the goddess jogged some steps in the direction Boma was coming from.

Boma winced in pain as she stumbled on a small rock and looked up sharply to make sure he was okay, "You okay big guy?" she muttered and quickened her pace, this was going to take time, and she wasn't sure that anymore time he had with her was a good thing.
The yellow form caught Boma'burudi's two-toned eye a sigh of relief escaped her, "Mtima..! Mtima..!" she called excitedly, she wanted to show off her 'work' but more so wanted to rid herself of this small burden.

Mtima picked up the pace when she saw Boma's stumble-landing. She certainly was here for one of those reasons, and it no longer looked like she was pregnant. That meant now she was being put in charge of some little lives once again?
"Boma," she called back, picking up the pace to make it easier on the new mother- arriving shortly in front of the other goddess. One look confirmed it- Boma was no longer pregnant.
The little, unnamed cub squeaked at the sudden unsteadiness of movement. There were loud noises, the only familiar voice he knew and then another strange one that was not quite so audible. He clung to his mother for dear life, confused and uncertain- where had the others gone? Why were they moving so fast? Why were they moving at all?

Boma flashed a small quivering smile and moved a metallic wing to show the small burden, not even a day old and Boma was sure he was in for a hard life. "I had them...and two..two..two are gone.." she managed before a hacking sob escaped her. She didn't have time to be sad yet, not until the boy was safe.
"Take him?" She fluttered her golden wing gently to emphasize the point, "He has no name, and I am sure he is stronge-stronger than the others.."
She was sure that Mtima would have questions the motherly goddess seemed to be only concerned for her and of course for the cubs, wait, cub. He was strong, he had survived the warm, but still cold night, and he had survived the bumbling young mother's little walk in the warm morning light. It took much shorter than she thought, an almost unrealistic time span.
The earth will come to a halt for this little one, I am sure, he is destined for some greatness, a voice called at the back of her mind and Boma was suprised to realize it was her own.

As soon as Mtima caught sight of Boma's quivering smile, she knew something was wrong, and when her wings were moved away she knew what it was. Her eyes widened, she was startled to learn of the loss- despite her recent discussion with her own daughter of the dangers of birthing young.
"Boma," she murmured in a hushed voice, looking from the small, beautiful creature resting on her back to the goddess' eyes. She wanted to ask about them, ask if she was all right herself.. but such questions seemed unimaginable at such a time. She did not move right away to take the burden from her friend, instead frowned at Boma.
"You won't name him?" Mtima asked in an almost pleading tone, hoping that on some level it was something Boma would want to do- something to help her cope. Someway he could have a connection to her, even if she stayed away forever. But was it too much to ask? She'd been through so much and so fast..
The cub squeaked and curled up tighter when the shelter of his mothers wings left him open to the cool morning breeze. It was so chilly all of a sudden! What was going on, he had no idea- but he hoped it would lead to warmth and fast. He could almost feel his tummy starting to rumble again as well- why wasn't that being helped?

She glared down at her dark paws and jumped the moment she heard his squeak, "You okay, Big guy?" She asked concerned, she craned her head to look at the magificent white creature above her.
"They lived..for a night..maybe less.. I fell asleep while they were feeding and awoke..they died...two girls, two beautiful sweet sisters," another choking sob echoed and she looked at Mtima again through blurred eyes, "No, no name. Kubwa should do that, he afterall will have him, not me."
"Promise..." she trailed off forgetting what she at first wanted.

It saddened Mtima to see Boma's concern for the cub, at least she had some care for him even if she was forcing herself to give him up. She was staring sadly at the fuzzy white cub nestled against Boma when her friend suddenly explained what happened. Her gaze shifted back to the blurry eyes of Boma, and she nodded understandingly.
"If that is what you want, you know I will help," she said firmly, holding back her own emotions for the benefit of Boma. It was then that the goddess moved forward to take the cub.
There was that wonderful voice in his direction again, but it soon changed tone and direction and he found himself alone again. He wanted to know what was going on, wanted to understand but he couldn't seem to get his eyes to open right. Instead, he had to settle for snuggling tightly into the warm fur he'd been place upon- until there came a sudden tugging. He was being removed, and his vain attempts to stay clung to the warmth did him no good.

"He'll be safe, right?" She whispered and winced feeling the warm little body try and stay attached to her, "Good bye my little dear, Bom-mommy loved you, very much, " she whispered soothingly to him as Mtima took him.
"He's one of the worst and best things to happen to me in this life," she turned her attention to Mtima and tried not to look at her offspring, "I'm going to go back..and..cover the little ones, I was scared.." tears streamed down her eyes and with the coloration of her fur it was expactant that the darkness would stream with the tears, after all she was of the earth.
"Your mortal son, he is a good boy-- a good young man, and I hope that this big guy turns out like him," she pressed her paws over her eyes ashamed.

Mtima kept her head low once she had Meko safely in her grasp, nodding gently in response to the question. There was no doubt in her mind that the cub would be safe. Kubwa would keep him safe, the pride would keep him safe.. as safe as a mortal could be. Mtima no longer had the ability to provide words of comfort, and instead opted to lean down and nuzzle Boma affectionately, trying to pull the paws away from her eyes.
Everything would be ok, she had to know that.
The breeze here was certainly stronger than it had been before, the cub could tell that. He shivered and squeaked, and when he suddenly felt fur brush past him he made another attempt to catch it- the warmth, the safety and the comfort. It was a last affectionate gesture for his mother, in its own way.
